Shane Richie to reboot Don’t Forget the Lyrics?

Shane Richie wants to reboot ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics’.
The 53-year-old actor hosted the game show, in which contestants had to try and fill in the blanks of song lyrics in order to win the cash prize, for two series from May 2008 until August 2009 on Sky 1 and, although it’s been off air for eight years, he’d love to get it back on screen – but this time he’d like it to have a prime time slot on ITV.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "That was one of my favourite shows that I’ve ever worked on and we did two series on Sky and if I was going to come back and do a Saturday night show, that would be the one I’d go back to.
"I think different bosses come in and they want to change things but I still think there’s time for another series of ‘Don’t Forget the Lyrics’.
"I think it’s one of those shows that would work well on ITV on a Saturday night. Get me with my live band and put me back on ‘Don’t Forget the Lyrics’. "
And that’s not the only programme he’d like to front as he has admitted he’d "jump" at the chance to host ‘Name That Tune’, which ran from 1983 until 1998 and is rumoured to be making a return, but give it a little shake up by doing "21st century version of it."
He added: "There’s a show coming back called ‘Name that Tune’ – well there’s talk of it – and it was like a panel show and you had to name the song with a few verses. I would love to do a 21st version of that. Anything to do with music, I’d jump at the chance."
In the meantime, the former ‘EastEnders’ star is focusing on his music and his new contemporary country album ‘A Country Soul’ is set for release today (10.11.17).
He said: "It’s a compilation of some of the songs I’ve played with my band over the years and some that I have always wanted to record but give it a new feel.
"I’ve been into new country now. I grew up around my dad, who used to run Irish clubs in North London, so I grew up around a lot of Irish show bands so I was always listening to folk music. I found my new love again about 10 years ago."
