Sammy Hagar invites David Lee Roth to Las Vegas

Van Halen star Sammy Hagar has invited David Lee Roth to join him onstage at his upcoming Las Vegas residency.

Hagar is due to kick off the Sammy Hagar: The Best of All Worlds shows at Dolby Live in Sin City in September and he’s extended an open invitation to his Van Halen predecessor Roth after the rest of the rocker’s US tour was cancelled.

In a video posted on social media, Hagar admitted he was sad to hear about the trek being scrapped and offered Roth the chance to join him in Las Vegas. He said: “Hey Dave, Sammy here. I just got a call from [Van Halen musician] Michael Anthony about your tour getting canceled, and I wanna say from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry.

“I hope you’re well. I hope there’s not a physical problem. Honestly, Mike and I love the fact that you’ve been out there doing it, supporting the greatest band in the world that we were both part of. And, yeah, I’m really sorry.

“That’s f***** up. Supporting what we did in this band to keep this music alive … When you’re ready to carry on, you go, brother. Mike and I support you.”

Hagar went on to add: “Come to Vegas for the residency in September. Come on, join us. Sing a couple songs, MC the damn show.

“Come out and just do what the f*** you do – which is pretty damn entertaining! Anyway, hope you’re well. I really do. God bless, brother.”

Roth’s US tour kicked off in April but last week the remaining gigs were scrapped without explanation.

Six dates between July and September were called off with only one show remaining – a concert in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 7.

Hagar and Roth both fronted Van Halen and they have toured together, but Hagar previously admitted he wouldn’t want to hit the road with Roth again because he’s “no fun”.

Hagar told NME: “I’ve no problem with Dave, but I wouldn’t want to tour with him again. We did it in 2002, and he was miserable. He’s no fun.

“He’s not what he appears to be, he’s always playing mind games.

“Needless to say, we’ve all heard that he’s struggling with his voice, and I wouldn’t want to bring him out with the ticket price it would be and have to apologise to people.”
