Ruth Jones confirms Gavin and Stacey won’t return

Ruth Jones has confirmed ‘Gavin and Stacey’ will not be returning for a new series.
The 53-year-old actress – who co-wrote the BBC comedy with James Corden – lifted the lid on the future of the series following the success of the Christmas special after ten years since the show last aired.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Absolutely, categorically, there will not be a new series – to write it, it takes a lot of time. A series is out of the question."
More than 17 million viewers tuned in to watch the sitcom’s festive special on Christmas Day (25.12.19), and were all left on a cliffhanger when the episode ended with Nessa (Ruth) popping the question to Smithy (James).
The stars of the show has since teased viewers saying they would love to return for a new series, and James and Ruth were "over the moon" with the reception.
James previously said: "We’re over the moon that that many people would watch it. It’s a mind-blowing number."
However, Rob Brydon – who plays Uncle Bryn – thinks it’s best to "leave it where it is".
He said: "Everybody is saying, ‘you must want to do more’, but I’d much rather leave it on a high and it’s really hard to come back after 10 years and make something as popular as this has been, because you can get it wrong."
And Rob admitted he was surprised when Ruth Jones and James Corden broke the news they had written a new episode.
He told heat: "There are no plans whatsoever [for a new series] and personally I would say leave it where it is, with people wanting more.
"That’s always my instinct, and I said that before this special and I was very surprised then to see that they had written it."
