Rolling Stones made Foreign Tongues ‘in a month’

The Rolling Stones made their new album Foreign Tongues “in a month”.

Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood came back together in London to record their 25th album – which was released on Friday (10.07.26) – along with guest contributors including Steve Winwood, Robert Smith, Sir Paul McCartney and Bruno Mars and they have now revealed the process only took around four weeks.

The band explained in a statement: “We put this album together in under a month at Metropolis Studios in our hometown of London – it was a lot of fun. The critics seem to like it, we hope everyone loves it!”

The veteran rockers launched the new record with a glitzy party in the UK capital on Wednesday night (08.07.26) which featured a drone show lighting up the London sky.

Set to the band’s song In The Stars, the drone show took place above the city’s iconic landmarks of Big Ben and the London Eye and featured the group’s iconic tongue and lips logo.

A statement explained: “The music for the 500 drone light show was set to the new Stones song In The Stars and is a fitting metaphor to see the iconic and much loved Stones’ tongue hanging over the River Thames to celebrate a record made here in the city of London.”

It comes after Keith joked his bandmate Mick “won’t bloody stop” making new music, crediting the singer’s “momentum” for the speed at which Foreign Tongues came together.

He told The Guardian newspaper: “Mick’s been very prolific lately, which is one reason this album has come out so quick, because he won’t bloody stop. “And the momentum from [previous album] Hackney Diamonds was such that this is basically carrying on in the same breath. I was just letting it roll – we had enough stuff if we wanted to keep pushing, and so Mick and I gave each other the usual wry look and said: ‘Yeah, let’s keep pushing’.”

Keith went on to add the pair’s dynamic has softened over the years, saying: “There’s not as much jousting.

“He’s broken his sword, he’s broken his lance. It’s another thing that Mick and I gave up, probably down to age. Or at least he hasn’t come at me for a while, so I presume we have.”
