Rihanna, Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace to host Met Gala 2018

Rihanna, Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace will host the 2018 Met Gala.
The trio will join forces with editor Anna Wintour to stage what is regarded as one of the biggest nights in fashion in New York on 7 May, 2018, and this year’s event will be called ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, Vogue has revealed.
While Rihanna – who wore a 3D floral gown to last year’s Comme des Garcons’s Rei Kawakubo Met Gala – and Donatella are veterans of the event, having attended seven and 16 Galas respectively, this will only be the second time Amal has attended.
The human rights lawyer made her debut at the event in 2015 alongside her husband George Clooney but she missed the 2017 extravaganza because she was heavily pregnant with her twins Alexander and Ella, who were born in June.
The 2017 Met Gala was hosted by Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady.
At this year’s event, Rihanna’s heavily-embellished structured Rei Kawakubo-designed Comme des Garcons gown was one of the main talking points, but the ‘Work’ hitmaker – who has also performed twice at previous events – later insisted her red high-heeled shoes, which laced to the thigh, were much trickier to wear than the head-turning dress.
Asked about getting into her dress, she previously said: "It’s actually really easy, you buckle some snaps. The shoes now, they took me an hour to get into."
The 2017 Met Gala paid tribute to avant garde designer Rei, and for Rihanna, that means having the freedom of expression to do "whatever" she wanted.
Asked what avant garde means to her, she said: "I love art and I think it’s such a free range of expression and you can do whatever you want within that space, it just gives you that freedom, the space to be whatever you want, wear whatever you want, sing whatever you want."
