Richard Hammond ‘won’t risk’ dying and leaving family again

Richard Hammond "won’t risk leaving" his family by performing a death-defying stunt again.
The 47-year-old TV presenter vowed he’ll never carry out risky maneuvers on his show ‘The Grand Tour’ after his recent motorbike accident and his horror smash 11 years ago – where he lost control of a jet car while filming ‘Top Gear’ – because he dreads the thought of leaving his daughters, Izzy, 16, and Willow, 13 without a dad and his wife Amanda Etheridge, 46, without a husband.
Richard said: "I’ve a beautiful wife and two beautiful daughters. I’m not going to risk leaving them. Not for their sake, but for mine."
Amanda was told Richard could die when he crashed in 2007 and the star revealed his spouse had to break the terrifying news to their children that "something terrible had happened to daddy."
What’s more, Richard admitted he didn’t recognise Amanda when he woke up from his coma in a hospital in Leeds.
He now wears a helmet during filming for the ‘The Grand’ Tour and admitted he is relieved he had it on when he was knocked unconscious when he fell off his bike in a remote Mozambique town.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: "I’m glad I did."
However, not long after the crash, the star insisted he was doing "fine".
He wrote on his Drivetribe blog: "Yes I fell off but yes I’m fine. Sorry.
"Thanks for enquiries re my slight shunt whilst filming for GT.
"I can confirm that yes, I fell off a bike, many times, in fact and yes, I banged my head and everything else. But life goes on."
