Raye to switch things up on next album

Raye has teased a change of direction for her next album.

The ‘Ice Cream Man’ singer performed at Coachella over the weekend, where she let the crowd in on a secret about her follow-up to her much-lauded debut album ‘My 21st Century Blues’.

She told festivalgoers at the Empire Polo Club in Indio: “This next piece of music I’m going to put out, I’m so proud of it and I just need you to know. I can’t wait for you to hear it, it’s not what you expected.”

In a 2023 interview about being snubbed by the Grammys, the record-breaking BRIT Award winner insisted she has “barely scratched the surface of what I know musically I can give.”

She wrote on X: “just a message to say thank you for all the lovely messages but just to let you know I am not upset at all, I am hungry and grateful

the Grammys are awarded for the best music has to offer and I have barely scratched the surface of what I know musically I can give (sic)”

Raye became the first artist in history to win six awards in a single night at the BRIT Awards last month.

However, the ‘Prada’ hitmaker felt like her career was crumbling just 18 months before her triumph at the ceremony.

Raye worried her musical dream was slipping away less than two years ago when she had to beg her agent not to drop her.

The 26-year-old star told The Times newspaper: “I’m just happy to be here: 18 months ago my career had gone to [hell]. I remember seeing my live agent at a gig.

“I went up to him, with tears in my eyes, and begged him not to give up on me. I told him I had more fight in me. A week later he set up this tiny tour.

“It was a hundred tickets per venue; me sat at the piano for two hours, talking the audience through my story so far. Had someone said then that I’d be at the O2 [venue] in less than two years, even I would have thought they were mad.”

Three years ago, Raye parted ways with her record label Polydor Records after accusing them of refusing to release her albums and she went on to relaunch her career as an independent artist.
