Rachel Riley helps launch the National General Knowledge Test

Rachel Riley has joined forces with leading academics and other celebrities to create a National General Knowledge Test.

The ‘Countdown’ star has thrown her support behind the test, which has been created following research revealing that since the coronavirus lockdown, Brits have become obsessed with quizzes.

In fact, on average, Brits spend three hours a week taking part in quizzes with family and friends.

The 100-question test has been unveiled by Sky as the broadcaster launches three new channels: Sky Nature, Sky Documentaries and Sky HISTORY.

The quiz features a broad array of topics, including science, the natural world, sport, art, current affairs and entertainment.

Meanwhile, Rachel previously revealed ‘Countdown’ is set to return to TV screens in July.

The 34-year-old TV star confirmed that the popular programme will be filmed without a studio audience due to the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: "There is a provisional date for July. When we go back we won’t have any audience unfortunately. But like the rest of the country we are just going to play it by ear.

"When we are in the studio we should be able to be socially distance as there is the space. The space in the studio is OK, we can mic ourselves up."

‘Countdown’ host Nick Hewer is at a higher risk due to his age – but he previously insisted he won’t allow the pandemic to stop him from working.

The 76-year-old presenter said: "I will go back happily to the studio if not cautiously, I will keep my distance. But nothing will stop ‘Countdown’.

"You can trust over-70s to be responsible, they know their vulnerability."
