Proud zombie hunter Lily James

Lily James was thrilled she got to "save men" in ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’.

The 26-year-old beauty stars as protagonist Elizabeth Bennet in the mash-up movie – which sees a zombie apocalypse descend on the adapted setting of the Jane Austin novel – and has revealed she got a kick out being the "action hero" that saves the day and appear alongside the other Bennet sisters Kitty, Lydia and Mary, played by Suki Waterhouse, Ellie Bamber and Millie Brady respectively.

Speaking on the red carpet of the film’s European premiere in London on Monday night (01.02.16), she said: "I got to fight. I got to save the men. I got to be part of the Bennet sisters who are the coolest group of girls and I got to be an action hero … we were really tight. We also had to train. There was blood, sweat and tears and we fought together and that really bonded us in a strong way."

In the film, a plague falls upon 19th century England and Elizabeth unites with Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) to drive out the undead.

Lily’s boyfriend, former ‘Doctor Who’ star Matt Smith, plays Mr. Collins in the Burr Steers directed film, which is an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s parody novel.

Matt thinks it was very "cool" and "sexy" to see the female cast – which also includes ‘Game of Thrones’ star Lena Headey who plays Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Aisling Loftus (Charlotte Lucas) – be "kick-ass ninjas" in the movie.

He said: "Isn’t that quite nice though that it is the women who are the kick-arse ninjas? I think that is quite cool, a refreshing spin and quite sexy.
