Ricky Gervais is a ‘failed pop star’

Ricky Gervais is a "failed pop star".
The British comic - who released a number of singles in the early 1980s as a member of duo Seona Dancing and has also toured with a band as his 'Office' character David Brent under the name 'Foregone Conclusion' - can be seen singing and dancing in his new movie 'Muppets Most Wanted', and although he isn't the best mover he embraces the opportunity to show off his skills whenever he can, especially the shuffle, known as the "white man overbite".
He told ShortList magazine: "I'm a failed pop star. I always try to sneak it [song and dance] in , whether it's 'The Simpsons', with Elmo, or David Bowie.
"But dancing - wow, that's awkward. I embrace the whole white man overbite - that's what I do anyway."
The 52-year-old funnyman insists other stars including Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Tom Hiddleston and James McAvoy make an appearance in the new 'Muppets' film to show they've got a sense of humour and don't want to portray themselves as serious all the time.
He added: "I think actors and pop stars with a certain image want to go 'I've got a sense of humour. I laugh at myself. Look! I'm not really like that. If I was like that I wouldn't do it!'
"But sometimes they just want to go and have fun.
"If you're Lady Gaga and you have got 30 people doing anything you want, sometimes you want someone to say your hair looks funny.
"I think these people know they live in a strange, rarefied world, so they go 'Look, I laugh, I fall over'. I could be totally wrong."

Strictly Come Dancing to receive BAFTA Special Award

'Strictly Come Dancing' will be honoured with the BAFTA Special Award at the British Academy Television Craft Awards next month.
The BBC One ballroom dancing competition will be bestowed with the prestigious honour, which recognises the hard work of the production team who put the hit show together.
BAFTA's Television Committee chairman Andrew Newman said: "This Special Award commends the outstanding craftsmanship of the phenomenon that is 'Strictly Come Dancing', which has set new standards for talent and creativity both here in the UK and around the world.
"This award is to honour those craft people who bring a show that entertains millions each week to life."
Series director Nikki Parsons is set to collect the award on behalf of the 'Strictly' team at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards in London on April 27.
She said: "We are so excited to be given this Special Award by BAFTA. We have extremely talented and creative people at every level on the team, working hard to deliver the highest quality of live television each week and I am very proud to be a part of it. Everyone gives 110 per cent to give the show the highest possible production values throughout every series, so it is an honour for us to be recognised for our contribution to the huge success of 'Strictly' over the last 10 years."

Michelle Keegan losing tan for Corrie death

Michelle Keegan needs to get rid of her tan ahead of her 'Coronation Street' death scenes.
The 26-year-old star is desperate to achieve paler skin as she prepares to film her final scenes as Tina McIntyre, but she's worried her recent holiday to Dubai with fiancé Mark Wright has left her too orange.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, she said: "I've only got four more weeks left on 'Corrie' and so it will soon be the death scenes, so I literally need to be as white as a sheet."
The brunette beauty claims she even went to extreme measures to prevent getting any darker while on holiday, but her naturally olive skin was unable to avoid the effects of the Middle Eastern sunshine.
Michelle - who is half Spanish - explained: "I was only away for a week and wore the highest factor sunscreen to protect my skin, but I just tan so easily. The only problem now is I need my tan to fade - and fast!"
Michelle is now happy to be back in the UK, where she hopes she'll be able to avoid the sun.
She added: "I'm praying there isn't more sunshine in Manchester in the next few weeks, because I'm going to have to stay indoors if there is.
"If I don't fade it will just be a case of lots of make-up to make me look paler."

Davina McCall: My marriage was in trouble

Davina McCall has admitted her marriage was in trouble before her Sport Relief challenge.
The TV presenter, who ran, cycled and swam 500 miles from Edinburgh to London for the charity last month, has confessed her and husband Matthew Robertson were in a "tough place" in the lead up to her challenge.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We had a really difficult six months. Matthew's dad was ill, I was doing the challenge and he'd hurt his shoulder.
"We weren't arguing, but we had both been in kind of tough place. Now we are here and we've been on holiday.
"Getting through stuff like that makes the next step better. If you never give it a chance to get through something difficult, you never get to that step where you think, 'I know you, and you know me.' "
The 46-year-old star and Matthew, 45, have had marriage counselling in the past and Davina admits if they were younger and not married they probably would have called time on their 14-year union this year.
She explained: "When you're in your twenties and you have a tough six months then that's a break up. But when you're married it's nothing. You always have to think when you are in a relationship that if you have a tough six months then it's nothing in the grand scheme of things."
Davina was pulled from Lake Windemere in Cumbria when she became exhausted during the challenge and Matthew, who runs an adventure business, drove seven hours to be by her side because he was so concerned about her.
She added: "Matthew was worried when I came out of the water. When he found me cycling and he laughed and said, 'I can't believe you are now on a bicycle.' I'm sure he wanted to rescue me."

Richard and Judy: Susanna Reid won’t save Daybreak

Susanna Reid won't save ITV's breakfast programming, according to Richard and Judy.
The famous TV couple, best known for hosting 'This Morning', say no amount of talent change will save ITV's troubled morning slot and feel the problem lies within the format itself, and not the presenters or the name of the show.
Susanna, 43, is set to jump ship from 'BBC Breakfast' next month to front ITV's new programme 'Good Morning Britain', which will replace 'Daybreak'.
Judy Finnigan told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Will 'Daybreak' survive? I don't think it is to do with celebrities or the presenters. I think it is about the programme, which either works or it doesn't. I don't understand it. It is a mystery."
Judy's husband Richard Madeley added: "Will Susanna save it? That is a huge burden to put on any presenter's shoulders. Nobody understands it. It is like a best selling book. Everybody thinks they know the formula and there isn't one."
Susanna has signed a massive £500,000 deal to join ITV, but Richard has warned that bosses will need "patience" if they expect long-term success for 'Good Morning Britain'.
He said: "You need patience to get it right and confidence that you know what you are doing. Susanna knows what she is doing. I think they will change the format and good luck to them as it is hard."

Big Reunion tour snubs girl groups

Eternal, Atomic Kitten and Girl Thing have been snubbed from the next 'Big Reunion' tour in favour of an all-boy band line-up.
Concert promoters have decided to drop the girl bands from the upcoming October tour in order to boost ticket sales among women by touring acts such as Blue, A1, 5th Story, 3T, Damage, 911 and 5ive.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "This tour will be massive, the whole idea is that the past is the future - and these bands have huge followings desperate to get out and see them perform their old classics. There will be plenty of partying and fun on the road.
"We haven't seen anything like this for years and the demand from female fans is out there, so the show producers decided this twist and losing the girl groups would give their loyal viewers exactly what they want."
Series two stars Eternal and Girl Thing have been replaced on the tour by by boy bands from the first series of 'The Big Reunion', including 5ive, 911 and Blue, who are expected to headline the 13 dates this October.
5ive's Abz Love previously spoke out about his desire to quit the band following their upcoming summer shows but it's now reported his bandmates - Scott Robinson, Sean Conlon and Ritchie Neville - have talked him into joining them on the tour.
A friend of Abz said: "Abz felt he owed it to the rest of the boys to give them one last run of gigs with this tour before they part ways."

Ryan Gosling attached to Busby Berkeley biopic

Ryan Gosling is attached to produce a biopic on the late Busby Berkeley.
The 33-year-old actor is circling to produce with Marc Platt, who worked with the hunk on 2011's 'Drive', and Gosling may also star in the forthcoming film which is based on Jeffrey Spivak's book 'Buzz: The Life and Art of Busby Berkeley', reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Famed choreographer and director Berkeley was catapulted to the spotlight for work on Hollywood musicals during the Great Depression.
His hits include '42 Street', 'Gold Diggers of 1933', 'Footlight Parade' and 'Fashions of 1934'.
He has been quoted saying: "In an era of breadlines, depression and wars I tried to help people get away from all the misery ... to turn their minds to something else. I wanted to make people happy, if only for an hour."
Berkeley died on March 14, 1976 in California at the age of 80.
Gosling is currently working on an untitled musical drama which is being directed by Terrence Malick and stars Christian Bale, Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett.
He will hit the big screen in forthcoming film 'How to Catch a Monster', which will be released later this year.

Little Mix enlist Jason Derulo to break America

Little Mix are enlisting Jason Derulo and Macklemore to help establish themselves in America.
The 'Word Up!' singers recently celebrated the success of their second studio album 'Salute' in the US, but they are now hoping to top the record's success by working with more American artists and producers for their next effort.
Jade Thirlwall said: "We want to write with more American producers and are hoping to work with Jason Derulo's people. 'Talk Dirty' is our favourite song so more stuff like that.
"And we would love to collaborate with Macklemore too.
"It's about making more hits, really. We start working on it as soon as we get back from America before our UK tour, so it will be a bit of a rush."
The girl group - also consisting of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock - recently recorded the official song for this year's Sport Relief charity appeal and were stunned when former girl band icon, Melanie C of Spice Girls fame, agreed to make a cameo in the video.
Jade told the Daily Star newspaper: "Mel C is lovely. We didn't even know she was going to be there and it was a total surprise.
"I was like, 'Oh my God, that's Mel C, pretend to act normal, girls.'
"She said, 'Whenever you're free you need to come to my house for lunch.' "

Justin Bieber’s new song for Selena Gomez

Justin Bieber's new love ballad is about Selena Gomez.
The 20-year-old singer posted a teaser for the track 'Life Is Worth Living Again' on his Instagram account on March 15 and it is reportedly one of many new songs the 'Boyfriend' hitmaker has written about his 21-year-old on/off girlfriend.
A source told HollywoodLife.com: "Yes, 'Live Is Worth Living Again' was all for Selena and that's not the only song he's written for her. He's written a bunch of stuff for her, she's his biggest inspiration."
Justin, who has been dating Selena on/off since 2010, also dedicated a song to the brunette beauty during a surprise performance in Texas earlier this month.
He turned up at the Banger's Sausage House and Beer Garden in Austin for the South by Southwest festival and sang his hit 'As Long As You Love Me' for his "baby", who was standing in the wings.
After his romantic gesture, the pair reportedly hung out together for an hour after everyone left the venue.
Meanwhile, the star has posted a number of photographs on his Instagram account this week showing him the studio recording new material and claims it's the "best music" he's ever made.
Next to one of the snaps, he wrote: "I'm in the studio all day everyday for the ones who believe in me and support me 🙂 you fall but you rise back up stronger. Be great (sic)"

Prince Harry’s girlfriend doing ‘princess boot camp’

Britain's Prince Harry's girlfriend is reportedly being put through "princess boot camp" to prepare her for life as a royal.
Cressida Bonas, 25, has been having lessons on how to deal with the media and how to behave in public, so that she's ready for when the prince pops the question later this year.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "The Palace put plans in place as soon as Harry started his Army desk job in London. It was seen as a sure sign things were quickly becoming serious between him and Cressida. Harry now has a new team around him and their role is to advise the couple together.
"Cressida's mum has been tutoring her since she was little, so now the training is going up a level. You could call it princess boot camp."
It is believed Harry, who has been dating Cressida for almost two years, is planning to propose before his 30th birthday in September.
However, it appears the free-spirited stunner - who is the daughter of Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon - may have some hard work to do as she's reportedly being compared to Duchess Catherine, who was known as Kate Middleton before she married Prince William in 2011.
The source explained: "The Palace was appalled to see her plaiting her hair in public when she went to support Harry at Wembley.
"Kate would never be caught doing something so out there."

Sharon Osbourne rules out X Factor return

Sharon Osbourne is adamant she won't return to 'The X Factor'.
The 61-year-old star - who won the show last year with her act Sam Bailey - was considering staying on the panel alongside returning judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, but she's now decided to turn her back on the programme because it would be too much.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I cannot go there ... I can't."
However, the feisty judge thinks Cheryl's return to the panel will spice things up a bit because the chemistry between her and show boss Simon is guaranteed to spark some fireworks.
Sharon explained: "Cheryl is fantastic -- she'll be great for the show. She is always great back with Simon. She will do a great job."
Sharon was previously on the programme between 2004 and 2007, but she quit after falling out with her fellow judge Dannii Minogue.
However, she was persuaded to rejoin the panel alongside Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow last year in a bid to boost ratings after viewing figures slumped in previous years.
Meanwhile, producers are currently looking for two new faces to complete this year's judging panel after Nicole and Gary announced their departure a few months ago.
It is still unknown whether Louis, 61 - who has appeared on all 10 series of the show - will take the third seat on the panel, but he recently claimed he wasn't "worried" about getting the boot.
