Ian Anderson: I don’t care about chart success

Ian Anderson insists his record making it into the Top 20 in the charts doesn't mean anything to him.
The Jethro Tull frontman, whose recent album 'Homo Erraticus' reached number 14 in the UK Album Charts, admits he doesn't care about doing well in the charts, although it's nice to "pop in" to let people know he's still around.
He told BANG Showbiz: "Charts are just not my thing. It doesn't mean anything to me at all, quite frankly.
"Of course, what it's about is a loyal group of fans rushing out to buy the album as soon as it's made available to them.
"And I thoroughly appreciate the anxiousness to acquire it before anybody else does, but it will be a short-lived chart position. After some 45 years, I know for sure [it will be]."
But the 66-year-old flutist and singer thanked his team for working hard to promote the record, his highest-charting album since Jethro Tull's 'Songs From The Wood' in 1977 and his highest charting solo album to date.
He continued: "People working with me on the promotion of the album have worked very, very hard to do their best to let people know it's coming out."
Ian claims he doesn't plan to use the Jethro Tull name much in the future and prefers to use his own name for concerts and albums.
He said: "It's a brand name, I own the copyright, but it's not something I'd choose to use very often.
"If it was 'The Best of Jethro Tull' concert, that broad selection of historical music, then there would be justification.
"But I prefer to use my own name [now] in the twilight years before I snuff it. I'd rather people got used to me as the guy on the ticket."

Chris Martin: One Direction are brilliant

Chris Martin has praised One Direction.
The Coldplay frontman described the 'Kiss You' hitmakers as "brilliant" and admits he is a big fan of the pop group - which is comprised of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson - during an in-depth a BBC Radio 1 interview with Zane Lowe, due to air next Monday (28.04.14).
Chris says: "I'm saying One Direction are brilliant. I'm not kidding."
This isn't the first time that Chris has gushed about his love for the teen heartthrobs, as he covered the band's debut hit, 'What Makes You Beautiful' during a concert in Florida two years ago and recently told a contestant that they should use Harry as inspiration during his appearance on 'The Voice' USA earlier this month.
During the Q&A the 'Magic' singer also alludes to the recent upheaval in his personal life following his separation from his wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
He says: "Everyone in their live goes through their challenges - whether it's love or money or kids or illness."
Meanwhile, Coldplay have been announced as the headline act for Radio 1's Big Weekender in Glasgow, Scotland
The free-ticketed festival, will run on Saturday May 24 and Sunday May 25, with the band performing on the Saturday night.
The group will also release their sixth studio album 'Ghost Stories' on May 19.

Avril Lavigne: My music video is not racist

Avril Lavigne has defended her new music video for the track 'Hello Kitty' claiming it is not racist.
The 29-year-old pop star released the promo, on Tuesday (22.04.14), which sees her singing Japanese phrases surrounded by an group of Asian dancers, but it was later deleted due to the controversial content, and now the singer insists the video was specifically for Japanese fans.
Avril took to Twitter today (24.04.14) to defend the video, posting: "RACIST??? LOLOLOL!!! I love Japanese culture and I spend half of my time in Japan. I flew to Tokyo to shoot this video ... specifically for my Japanese fans, WITH my Japanese label, Japanese choreographers AND a Japanese director IN Japan. (sic)"
The clip has since reappeared on YouTube today and has received hundreds of 'dislikes' in terms of its disapproval rating, while Billboard slammed the "trainwreck" video for its "Japan fetishisation".
The publication called Avril out for "parading around with four identical, creepily expressionless Asian women ... performing mind-numbingly generic dance moves, in locales like a bedroom, a candy store and a street."
But fans took to Twitter to defend the promo, with one posting: "They don't understand that a large majority of your fanbase is Japanese. THEY'RE the racist ones for calling it "weird" ! (sic)"

Zooey Deschanel joins The Driftless Area

Zooey Deschanel has been cast in 'The Driftless Area'.
The 'New Girl' star will play an "enigmatic woman" in co-writer and director Zachary Sluser's dark comedy for Unified Pictures and Bron Studios.
The screenplay is being adapted from Tom Drury's novel of the same name by the author and Sluser.
Deschanel is due to be joined by Anton Yelchin, John Hawkes, Ciaran Hinds and Alia Shawkat in the movie, which tells the story of a resourceful bartender (Yelchin) who moves back to his hometown following the death of his parents, falls for Deschanel's character and is unwittingly pitted against a crook (Hawkes).
According to The Wrap, Sluser said: "It is a great joy to be able to bring Tom Drury's hauntingly beautiful story to life with such profoundly talented actors, all of whom have inspired me for years."
Filming begins May 14 in Vancouver, Canada, with Keith Kjarval and Aaron L. Gilbert acting as producers and Nicole Romano as executive producer.
Kjarval commented: "We are quite excited about making this film as it is so darkly humorous and wrought with atmosphere and frankly, I am excited to be telling such a delicious story with some of my favorite actors."
Deschanel will next be seen in Barry Levinson's all-star comedy 'Rock The Casbah', alongside Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson and Danny McBride.
Troubled actor Shia LaBeouf pulled out of the project last month, and has reportedly been replaced by Scott Caan in the tale of a has-been rock manager's musical misadventures in Afghanistan.

Prince William and Duchess Catherine ‘saddened’ by Mark Shand death

Britain's Prince William and Duchess Catherine are "saddened" by the death of Duchess Camilla's brother, Mark Shand.
The royal couple, who are currently on a royal tour of Australia and New Zealand, took a moment's pause from their trip to pay their respects to the Duchess of Cornwall's late brother, who died on Tuesday (22.04.14) after slipping on a New York City street and hitting his head.
William and Catherine said in a statement: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were saddened to learn this morning of the tragic death of Mark Shand. Their thoughts are with the Duchess of Cornwall and her family at this time."
Mark, who was 62, tragically succumbed to serious head injuries after he stepped outside New York's Diamond Horseshoe nightspot to enjoy a cigarette.
The royal sibling slipped, hitting his head on a sidewalk, and was later declared dead in hospital.
Camilla, 66, is "devastated" by the death of her brother.
Clarence House said yesterday (23.04.14): "The Duchess, the Prince of Wales and all her family members are utterly devastated by this sudden and tragic loss.
"Mark Shand was a man of extraordinary vitality, a tireless campaigner and conservationist whose incredible work through The Elephant Family and beyond remained his focus right up until his death."

Jorgie Porter returning to Hollyoaks

Jorgie Porter is returning to 'Hollyoaks'.
The actress, who quit her role as Theresa McQueen last year to take part in the last ever series of 'Dancing on Ice', will be back on screens later this year as executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has come up with an exciting new storyline for her character.
Viewers saw Jorgie exit the soap in January when Theresa was finally arrested for the murder of Calvin Valentine.
Jorgie told SoapSquawk: "I am excited to be returning. Theresa is awaiting trial but has some serious unfinished business before then so I am thrilled to be able to come back and finish what we started. I can't wait to be a McQueen again!"
Jorgie, 26, first appeared as a contestant on 'Dancing on Ice' in 2012 and finished in second place.
The blonde beauty was then asked to take part in this year's final all-stars series and decided to leave 'Hollyoaks' under the impression she would need time off to take part in the show's accompanying nationwide tour.
However, Jorgie and skating partner Sylvain Longchambon were eliminated in the first episode.

Chris Brown to stay in jail

Chris Brown has been ordered to stay in jail for at least another week.
Lawyers acting for the 24-year-old singer - who had been due to stand trial this week for misdemeanour assault charges for allegedly hitting Parker Adams and breaking his nose - appealed for him to be allowed out of prison yesterday (23.04.14), but Jude Victor Greenberg denied the request until a probation revocation hearing takes place on May 1.
Chris' arrest for the assault, which took place in Washington D.C. in October marked a violation of the probation which was set in 2009 following his assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna, but he was allowed to enter rehab rather than prison.
However, when he was kicked out of the clinic for rule breaking, he was subsequently jailed and his lawyer argued it was unfair he had been in prison for 39 days without a hearing.
Another lawyer for the 'Yeah 3x' hitmaker - whose bodyguard Christopher Hollosy has been convicted of assaulting Adams - branded the ruling "over the top".
Mark Geragos said earlier in the day: "I think it's a little over the top to have him in custody on this misdemeanour when everybody saw the bodyguard's trial and which was nothing more than a bloody nose.
"And you have got the bodyguard who was convicted and who readily admitted he was the one who did the punching. So all of this is much ado about nothing."
Chris' trial has suffered delays since his bodyguard was found guilty of misdemeanour assault on Monday (21.04.14) and is now expected to take place in June.
Hollosy, who will be sentenced in June and faces a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, was originally scheduled to testify on behalf of the 'Turn Up the Music' singer, but after he was found guilty, he decided he would not testify unless the prosecutors offered him immunity, as he plans to appeal his conviction.
If convicted, the entertainer faces a maximum of six months in jail and $1,000 fine, but he also faces up to four more years in jail in California as a result of violating the terms of his probation.

Amanda Bynes can drive again

Amanda Bynes has had her driving license returned.
The 'Easy A' actress - who underwent a stint in rehab late last year following months of erratic behaviour - had her license suspended following two hit-and-run charges and an arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) in 2012, but she was spotted driving a black BMW in Los Angeles at the weekend and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) records show she is now legally allowed back on the road.
The 28-year-old star - who was ordered by a judge in September 2012 to hand over her car keys as she continued getting behind the wheel despite the ban - is still receiving outpatient treatment since leaving rehab in December, and is "devoted to living her life as healthy as possible" but is no longer taking any medication.
Her attorney Tamar Arminak said: "Amanda continues to undergo outpatient therapy several times a week. Amanda currently is on zero medication.
"She's never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she's proud to say she's been marijuana free for the past nine months. (She) is doing extremely well."
The 'She's the Man' actress is currently enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design of Merchandising and has no plans to reignite her Hollywood career.
Her mother Lynn has also denied reports her daughter suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, insisting she "has no mental illness whatsoever".

Justin Timberlake’s £2,450 nigthclub tip

Justin Timberlake left nightclub waitresses with a £2,450 tip.
The 'Mirrors' hitmaker was a partying with his entourage of 25 until 4.20am at the Crystal Cologne club in the German city, after being invited by the nightclub owner to enjoy drinks on the house following a concert at the Lanxess Arena.
The staff were left "amazed" with the generosity of the 33-year-old singer - who is married to 'Playing for Keeps' star Jessica Biel - and his "mood" throughout the night.
Club manager Yunus Arslan, 40, told The Sun newspaper: "He was in a great mood, a real gentleman."
Nina Blum, 28, who was among staff serving him, added: "We were all really amazed."
Although his tip was very generous, the 'Suit and Tie' star could more than afford it as earlier this month, Billboard's annual Money Makers list showed he earned a reported $34.1million in the US in the last year.
Justin's 'The 20/20 Experience World Tour' kicked off in November last year when he performed at the Barclays Center in New York and has since had a number of sparkling reviews.
He is next set to take to the stage Berlin on April 24 while he is on the European leg of his tour before he heads to Asia.

Bob Geldof’s eulogy for Peaches was bravest thing

Bob Geldof delivering a eulogy for his daughter Peaches has been described as the "bravest thing" by close friend Alan McGee.
The Boomtown Rats singer spoke at his daughter's funeral on Monday (21.04.14), after she was found dead in home in Wrotham, Kent on April 7, and record label boss Alan was left shaken after the ceremony at St Mary Magdalene and St Lawrence Church in Davington, Kent, near to Peaches' home.
He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was very heavy when I saw Bob help carry his daughter down through the chapel.
"It was incredibly tragic but I think he handled it as well as any man could.
"The bravest thing I think I've ever seen him do is give the eulogy to his daughter who has died."
Alan, who has discovered bands such as Oasis and Primal Scream, joined guests including Kate Moss and her husband Jamie Hince, Trudie Styler, Sarah Ferguson, Jools Holland, Nick Grimshaw and Jo Wood at the funeral, as they paid their respects to the 25-year-old star.
TV presenter Alexa Chung, Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, singer Eliza Doolittle, actress Jaime Winstone and Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman were also among the mourners, along with her family.
The blonde beauty leaves behind her husband Thomas Cohen and their sons Phaedra, who turned one today (24.04.14), and Astala, two.
Peaches' death is being treated as "non-suspicious", but an autopsy proved to be inconclusive earlier this month.
The star's family now have to wait for toxicology tests to be carried out in coming weeks.
