Prince William unveils queen portrait

Britain's Prince William has unveiled a portrait of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth.
The prince unveiled the painting at a state reception at Government House in Wellington today (10.04.14) and the picture will hang in New Zealand's Portrait Gallery.
It was painted by Nick Cuthell, a young artist who spends time between New Zealand and London, and the monarch agreed to his request she wore a simple blue day dress accompanied by her silver New Zealand fern brooch.
Keith Ovenden, the gallery's chairman of trustees said: ''It's a tremendous honour that Her Majesty has allowed the NZ Portrait Gallery this unique opportunity to paint her from life rather than photographs, which is now more usual.
"The New Zealand Portrait Gallery is a national institution so this portrait now belongs to the people of New Zealand. We hope as many people as possible will come to see it".
The portrait was funded by an anonymous group who wanted to mark their loyalty to the queen in celebration of her 60 years as queen of New Zealand, and gallery director Avenal McKinnon said they felt it was important that the portrait would be on show and freely accessible for all to see.
The portrait will be hung as part of the permanent collection and available for public viewing from Saturday (12.04.14).

Queen Elizabeth to mark Easter rising

Britain's Queen Elizabeth has agreed to help Ireland mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
The monarch said she and her family will "stand alongside" the Irish people when they mark what was the beginning of the end of British rule and the founding of the country in two years time, suggesting a senior royal will travel to Dublin for the anniversary.
Speaking at a banquet in honour of Irish president Michael Higgins, she said: "My family and my Government will stand alongside you, Mr President, and your ministers, throughout the anniversaries of the war and of the events that led to the creation of the Irish Free State."
A royal spokesperson declined to comment further, but told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that her words "speak for themselves".
They added that any further announcements will be made in due course.
The Easter Rising was an armed insurrection in Ireland in on 24 April 1916 mounted by Irish republicans who wanted to end British rule.
The rebellion was surprised by the British army, leading to an unconditional surrender five days later.
Support for independence increased until the 1918 general election, which saw republicans take 73 of 105 seats, and the first meeting of the new Irish parliament was held the following year.

Princess Beatrice attends jewellery party

Britain's Princess Beatrice attended a launch party for an exclusive new jewellery line last night (09.04.14).
The 25-year-old royal - the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson - was joined by her boyfriend Dave Clark at the unveiling of Sabine Ghanem's new Harlequin collection at 26 Curzon Street in London's Mayfair.
The couple happily mingled with guests and posed for photos at the bash, which was hosted by Sarah and Joseph Getty, before moving on to Firehouse nightclub to continue their night out.
Beatrice also posed for photos with the designer as she launched her collection, which is available to buy through stockist Bergdorf Goodman.
Sabine has previously spoken of her desire for her pieces to be seen as timeless items which will be passed from generation to generation.
She said: "I love moms. I'm so flattered when I get a mother or a woman who's in her 40s or 50s and buys a piece of mine because I know that her daughter will wear it, too.
"So I guess my ideal customer is someone who will pass it on. But I do get two generations as customer."

Aloe Blacc: Talent shows no interest in artists

Aloe Blacc believes talent shows have no interest in producing "real artists".
The 'I Need a Dollar' hitmaker appeared as a guest advisor for Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine on the United States version of talent show 'The Voice' but he claims the show bosses have no real intention of creating real music stars.
He told BANG Showbiz: "They're [talent shows] making a lot of money for producers, definitely. That's what talent shows are for; entertainment for viewers who are watching TV.
"They're not there to produce real artists. They're there to make a lot of money."
However, the 35-year-old star - whose real name is Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III - thinks that when people truly understand what talent show producers want, they can become very successful.
He said: "Sometimes, if one of the contestants really understands what the game is, they'll make a great success for themselves."
Aloe insisted, however, that to make music that will really resonate with people, you have to be passionate about it and do it because you love it not because you want to be famous.
He said: "It [music] has to be genuine and authentic. You always have to start with the music first that you truly love because you have to live with it for the rest of your life.
"So my songs have to stand for me now and even when I'm dead and gone."
Aloe Blacc's new album 'Lift Your Spirit' is out now.

James Alexandrou: I would return to EastEnders

James Alexandrou hasn't ruled out an 'EastEnders' return.
The actor - who played Martin Fowler on the BBC One soap for 11 years - says he is open to reprising his role after his on-screen wife Natalie Cassidy returned as Sonia Fowler, but isn't sure it's the "right time" at the moment.
He told What's On TV magazine: "Natalie called me when she went back in it and she was so happy and it seems like there's a really nice atmosphere there, and I know that when Danny Dyer came in it really energised it and he's great for the show.
"For the first time in a long time, I was really going, 'Could I do it? Could I do it?' But I don't think the time's right for me right now. But it's never a no - it's just not right now."
James joined 'EastEnders' in 1996, playing the youngest son of Walford legends Pauline and Arthur Fowler.
A wild child in his younger days, Martin impregnated Sonia as a teenager, but the pair decided to give up their baby.
They later fell in love and got married and reunited with their daughter, Rebecca, after her adoptive legal guardian passed away.
Since Sonia's return to Albert Square in January, Martin has been referred to numerous times on screen.

David Walliams nearly blinds Simon Cowell

David Walliams nearly blinded Simon Cowell for being funnier than him on 'Britain's Got Talent'.
Fellow judge Amanda Holden has teased a more volatile relationship between her co-stars - who are known for their humorous banter - in the new series and has revealed Simon, 54, narrowly missed an injury after David, 42, threw a pen at him.
Quizzed about the pair's relationship this series, Amanda told BANG Showbiz: "It's actually gone quite sour! Simon is much funnier than David this year, I'm not even lying. And David has been quite violent towards him. He threw a pen at him and nearly blinded him!
"Simon said he wanted the truth to come out so I'm telling you now ... he threw a pen and it just missed his eye. It could have been dangerous."
Meanwhile, fellow judge Alesha Dixon has seen a softer side to Simon - who welcomed his first child, baby Eric, with girlfriend Lauren Silverman in February - but admits he is still a "harsh" judge on 'Britain's Got Talent'.
Speaking on the red carpet at the launch of the new series in London yesterday (09.04.14), she said: "Simon's in the best mood I've ever seen him, he's lovely to be around. There's something that a newborn baby brings, and that is joy - and it radiates from him! However, he's still harsh, as we love him to be, on the panel and I wouldn't want him to change. I think that's why we all love him judging, because he's so honest and he says what a lot of people are thinking. That hasn't changed."
'Britain's Got Talent' is back on Saturday (12.04.14) at 7.15pm on ITV.

The star ranked at number four on the list compiled by Oulala.com, the world's most evolved free fantasy football game, after he quipped, "I'm trying to get some building work done at the moment, quite seriously. Be careful", while talking about the perils of upsetting Polish football fans.

Lindsay Lohan weeps over Oprah praise

Lindsay Lohan wept as Oprah Winfrey praised her on David Letterman's show last night (09.04.14).
The 'Mean Girls' actress - whose post-rehab attempts to get her career back on track are being chronicled in documentary series 'Lindsay' on the media mogul's OWN network - initially planned to prank call her mentor, but the retiring talk show host quickly blew his own cover and had a serious chat about his famous guest instead.
Lindsay asked the audience: "I think maybe I should just call her right now. Should we call Oprah?
"I think so. Do you have a phone? Have we got a phone?"
Letterman, 66, took the phone and in a feminine voice said: "Yes, can I speak to Oprah Winfrey please? Hi, this is, uh, Lindsay Lohan's secretary."
He quickly owned up to his real identity when Oprah asked who was on the line, prompting her to reply: "Very good, Dave! The David Letterman who's retiring?!"
Getting the conversation back on a serious track, the talk show host asked: "How's our friend Lindsay doing?"
Oprah then spoke of her pride in the 27-year-old star's attempts to turn her life around.
She replied: "I think she's doing OK ... What do you think? ... I think she's doing really OK. I think to have cameras following you around for every phase of your life and you're trying to pull your life together, I think that's a really difficult thing. We're really pleased that she's making some progress."
Lindsay - who has been in rehab six times - then wiped away tears.

Robin Thicke ‘doing great’

Robin Thicke is "doing great" in the wake of his marriage split.
The 'Blurred Lines' hitmaker and wife Paula Patton recently separated after nine years of marriage, and his dad Alan Thicke says his famous son is channeling his heartbreak into new music.
Speaking to 'Entertainment Tonight Canada', Robin said: "They're doing great and Robin is pouring himself into the musical artistry.
"There will be a fabulous album coming out within months... he's almost finished it."
It has been speculated that Paula is willing to give Robin - with who she has three-year-old son Julian - another chance if he "proves" himself to be a good husband and father, but 'Growing Pains' actor Alan is unsure what the future holds for the pair.
Asked if he thinks they will reunite, he replied: "They're grown ups. I wouldn't bet on them one way or another."
It was recently claimed that Alan - who is married to third wife Tanya Callau - has been giving his son marriage advice and urging him not to make the same mistakes he did.
A source said: "Robin's convinced that his smooth-talking dad - despite his own chequered romantic history - could help him win back his wife."
Alan is said to have a close bond with Paula, who has three-year-old son Julian with Robin, and has been trying to talk her around.
The source added: "Paula adores Alan and he adores her. He admitted he made a mess of his own love life and caused pain for his family with divorces.
"But he told Paula he believes she and Robin have the strength to get through this and save their union."
