Kasabian: We deserve Glastonbury slot

Kasabian feel they deserve to be given the headline slot at Glastonbury festival.
The 'Eez-eh' band - made up of Serge Pizzorno, Tom Meighan, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews - insist they're ready to step onto the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm for the performance of a lifetime next week because they've proved themselves as a band.
Asked if the band has earned their headline slot, Serge told NME magazine: "Five records, 10 years. Yeah, we have. They always like to put a British band on, which is incredible. It's a great story. We were first on [the Other Stage] all those years ago.
"For our band, there's so many preconceptions, it's f***ing hilarious. There's so many lazy people that assume we're a certain way."
The band, who have released their fifth studio album '48:13', will perform alongside fellow headliners Metallica and Arcade Fire and aim to change some people's perceptions.
Serge, 33, added: "That evening, people will just be like, 'Wow, I didn't realise it was anything like this!' That moshpit at Glastonbury on Sunday night, man. We want it to be visible from outer space."
Meanwhile, the band are also performing a huge homecoming gig in Leicester on Saturday (21.06.14) and Serge admits he can't chose which is more important to the band - Victoria Park or headlining Glastonbury.
He said: "That's a tough question. That's done me! I don't know how to answer that. They mean so much for different reasons. They both have to be amazing, they can't not be."

Lady Gaga Judas lawsuit dismissed

Lady Gaga's 'Judas' plagiarism lawsuit has been dismissed.
A judge has ruled the singer's 2011 track, taken from her second studio album 'Born This Way', is "not substantially similar" to Chicago-based musician Rebecca Francescatti's 1999 song 'Juda'.
Rebecca accused Gaga, 28, of ripping off elements of her song in a lawsuit filed in 2011, but U.S. District Judge Marvin E. Aspen has determined she has failed to provide sufficient evidence of the alleged similarities between the two songs.
According to Billboard.com, Judge Aspen said: "We conclude as a matter of law that the two songs are not substantially similar. No reasonable trier of fact could find that defendants copied protected expression in Francescatti's song. The songs do not 'share enough unique features to give rise to a breach of the duty not to copy another's work.' Accordingly, we grant defendant's motion for summary judgement."
In the ruling, Judge Aspen further explained the lawsuit's objection to a similar title and similar musical notes "are not sufficient to give rise to a finding that the Gaga song has captured the total concept and feel of the Francescatti song".
The court official also found that the elements of plagiarism alleged by Rebecca were not protectable on their own and feels the musician has failed to present unique or protectable elements under plagiarism law.
He added: "We find that Francescatti has neither established that the elements are protectable nor has she established a unique combination of these unprotectable elements. No reasonable trier of fact could find that the songs' expressions are substantially similar."

Colin Firth drops out of Paddington

Colin Firth has dropped out of 'Paddington'.
The 53-year-old actor has pulled out of providing the voice for Paddington Bear in the upcoming animation after admitting that he didn't think his tone was suited to the character.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "It's been bittersweet to see this delightful creature take shape and come to the sad realization that he simply doesn't have my voice.
"I've had the joy of seeing most of the film and it's going to be quite wonderful. I still feel rather protective of this bear and I'm pestering them all with suggestions for finding a voice worthy of him."
The 'King's Speech' star has left the project late into production as a trailer for the film - which is scheduled for release in December - has already been released, but the date is not expected to change.
'The Mighty Boosh' director Paul King has not yet decided on a replacement for firth but claims he will make an announcement in the coming weeks.
He said in a statement: "I cannot thank [Firth] enough for his contribution to 'Paddington'. We love the voice and we love the bear, but as our young bear came into being we agreed that the two didn't seem to fit. So, with somewhat heavy hearts we decided to part ways."
The filmmaker added the new voice actor will ensure that Paddington's "big screen debut is magnificent."
'Paddington' - which will feature the voices of Nicole Kidman, Julie Walters and Hugh Bonneville - tells the story of a young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British who becomes stranded at Paddington train station until he's adopted by a kind family, after travelling to London in search of a new home.

Lauren Cooper, 18, of Southampton, said: "We love Prince Harry."
Her friend Jess Soares, also 18, added: "It's great that he's here."
The lead carriage was followed by a second containing Harry's father Prince Charles and his wife Duchess Camilla, as well as Andrew's daughters Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, and a third carrying Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were in the third.

Leonardo DiCaprio gives 7m for conservation

Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged $7 million for ocean conservation.
The 'Wolf of Wall Street' actor spoke at the State Department's Our Ocean Conference in Washington yesterday (17.06.14), to decry "the Wild West on the high seas" and called for moves to curb "plundering the ocean and its vital resources" as he vowed to make a hefty donation from his self-titled foundation for "meaningful conservation projects" over the next two years.
He said: "[I'm] here as a concerned citizen of this planet who believes this is the most important issue of our time.
"What we need is sustained activism and courageous political leadership. We cannot afford to be bystanders in this pre-apocalyptic scenario."
The 39-year-old actor went on to speak of his sadness in the changes he has seen to Australia's Great Barrier Reef in recent years.
He said: "Since my very first dive in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia 20 years ago to the dive I got to do in the very same location just two years ago, I've witnessed environmental devastation firsthand.
"What once had looked like an endless underwater utopia is now riddled with bleached coral reefs and massive dead zones."

Kanye West: People don’t understand

Kanye West claims people don't "understand" his "interracial relationship" with Kim Kardashian.
The 37-year-old rapper - who married the reality TV star in Florence, Italy, last month - insists he can cope with the "lashes" he receives in his personal life as he believes much of the criticism stems from ignorance.
Speaking at the Cannes Lions festival, he said: "I don't write self-help books or anything like that....
"You have to be able to take the lashes when people don't understand.
"Two years of people not understanding an interracial relationship, two years of people not understanding the idea of the art world meets the pop world, you have to take the lash and be able to swim in the backlash."
The 'Bound 2' star - who has 12-month-old daughter North with Kim - went on to compare himself with elite boxers Floyd Mayweather and Mohammed Ali in the way he continues to be "bashed" but still strives to be the top of his game.
He said: "A lot of times I think I get a bad rap for saying "I can do this, I can do this.
"It's like we are the creative with teeth, we have the gut feeling that we know that the idea is more important than our personal well-being.
"So a lot of times I will say things that are not for my personal well-being which I think for people to create for their personal well-being is a selfish thing to do and you're creating to make your life better rather than everyone else's life better.
"I get bashed so much but create so much, just know that if you want to be a boxer you're going to get your face beaten constantly but then you may end up being a Mayweather or an Ali at the end of the day."

Mel B’s mum wants to reconnect with her

Mel B's mother is desperate to heal their rift.
Andrea Brown hasn't spoken to her daughter for six years after disapproving of her marriage to film producer Stephen Belafonte, but she's said to be keen to reconnect now the former Spice Girls star is returning to live in the UK with her family to work on 'The X Factor'.
A family friend told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Andrea is scarred by what has happened with Mel. They used to be so close.
"She is desperate to be part of her life again and in the last few days and weeks she has been trying to reach her on Twitter."
Mel became estranged from Andrea, her father Martin and her sister Danielle in 2008 when she and Stephen - who has a history of domestic abuse - renewed their wedding vows, as they claim he's taken her away from them.
Mel has been living in Australia with her husband, their two-year-old daughter Madison and her other daughters Phoenix, 15, and Angel Iris, 7, from previous relationships, but Andrea is hopeful they can finally heal their long-standing rift now she is back in Britain.
The source added: "So far Mel hasn't replied, but Andrea is hoping that now she is in the UK then she might relent and finally let her back in her life."

Victoria Beckham ‘takes the mickey’ out of herself

Victoria Beckham likes to "take the mickey" out of herself.
The singer-turned-designer is famed for her poker face and rarely flashing a smile for the cameras, but she insists she secretly has a great sense of humour and doesn't take herself too seriously.
She told ELLE Singapore magazine: "People are probably surprised that I have a sense of humour. I like to take the mickey out of myself. As much as I take what I do very seriously, I also want to have fun.
"I like to poke fun at myself... And I think that surprises people."
The 40-year-old star - who has sons Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 12, Cruz, nine, and two-year-old daughter Harper with her husband David Beckham - puts a huge amount of pressure on herself to make her fashion empire a success and says her biggest business motivation is surpassing her own expectations.
She added: "I'm not afraid. I think you can learn from everything. I don't ever think of the negatives, I think of the positives. I'm not competing with anybody else out there; I'm just competing with myself.
"I never went into this to prove anything to anybody, other than myself. I think if you're too afraid of failure then you won't challenge yourself, then you won't move forward. I like to challenge myself."

Louis Walsh: X Factor is going well

Louis Walsh says 'The X Factor' auditions are "going well".
The show stalwart is pleased with returning judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole and new panellist Mel B and says things got off to a great start in Manchester on Monday (16.06.14).
He said: "The first session went well, it was great. It's fun and I think both of the girls will get on well.
"It's all going great. We're going to get the fun back in the show."
And Louis is also impressed by the hopefuls who have auditioned so far.
He told The Sun newspaper: "Simon is on top form and the talent is all good, with all new faces."
It was recently revealed that Cheryl has insisted on being seated away from Louis - who used to manage her group Girls Aloud - on the panel.
A source said: "A lot of thought has gone into the seating after Cheryl said she wouldn't sit next to Louis. The pair have a lot of beef from the days of Girls Aloud.
"It means Mel has to sit between them -- giving Cheryl the key spot next to Simon. Mel is unlikely to be happy about that but, as the new girl, she is just going to have to lump it."
'X Factor' boss and head judge Simon previously revealed he and Cheryl, 30, had disagreed on whether to bring back Louis.
He said: "She doesn't want Louis to come back, but he'll be back. I want him to come back. We work really well together. I couldn't imagine it [without him]."

Meryl Streep to play Maria Callas

Meryl Streep will portray Maria Callas in a new movie.
The 64-year-old actress has signed up to portray the opera legend in 'Master Class', a film for HBO based on Terrence McNally's play about the iconic diva teaching students at elite music school Juilliard in 1971.
According to the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column, Mike Nichols - who previously worked with the actress on 'Silkwood', 'Heartburn', 'Postcards From the Edge' and 'Angels in America' - will direct the movie and it will begin filming in January when Streep completes work on 'Ricky and the Flash'.
'Ricky and the Flash' sees the actress play a fading rock star who tries to reconnect with her family and she has been getting tuition for the role from a high-profile teacher.
A source said: "Meryl is learning the tricks of the guitar trade from none other than legendary Neil Young."
'Master Class' - which debuted on Broadway in 1995 - sees Callas reminisce about her career and personal life, including being dumped by Aristotle Onassis for Jacqueline Kennedy.
Streep has portrayed a number of famous women on screen in recent years, including former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady' and chef Julia Child in 'Julie & Julia'. Her 'Devil Wears Prada' character Miranda Priestley is widely assumed to be based on Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
