Paolo Nutini has defended One Direction in the wake of their drug scandal.
The 'Jenny Don't Be Hasty' singer doesn't think there's anything wrong with the boy band indulging in dope and claims it makes them far better role models for young fans than provocative pop acts like Miley Cyrus.
He ranted in the new issue of Q magazine: "I saw a photo of Miley Cyrus with her leotard pulled up between the lips of her vagina. Is that all right? Is that f**king cool? And One Direction can't have a joint? They're the bad role models? Come on."
The 27-year-old star's comments come following global outrage over leaked footage showing formerly squeaky clean 1D members Zayn Malik and Liam Payne smoking a joint in the back of a car in Peru.
Paolo added: "Christ, they're men now. Let's flip it and look at the female global pop stars out there. Sexualisation isn't the problem, it's a case of class."
The British musician also went on to reveal he smokes marijuana daily and has done so since he was 16 because it "just keeps you going".
He raged: "Can the world please get to grips with marijuana? How long can this go on? Don't get me wrong, give it to the wrong person, marijuana can spawn all kinds of things, but no more so than alcohol. Come on, people have been saying this s**t for 40 f**king years."
However, Paolo admits smoking so much dope isn't without its perils.
He joked: "I launched into a chunky KitKat and it took out a tooth."

Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani's sons are "so naughty".
The Bush rocker and the No Doubt singer are bracing themselves for the latest addition to their family, Apollo, to turn out as badly-behaved as his adorable older brothers Kingston, 8, Zuma, 5, in time.
Gavin told Us Weekly: "He's three months old so he's pretty chilled out. We're very proud of him. He's a great kid [but] he'll be naughty soon enough."
Asked just how cheeky his older sons are, 'The Bling Ring' actor laughed, "Oh, they're terrible! So naughty! But spirited is what I like to think of it as."
After almost 12 years of marriage and three kids, Gavin maintains he and 'Don't Speak' singer Gwen have no intention of parting ways like so many other celebrity couples.
He said: "We have so many kids now, no matter what, it's rock solid."
Gavin was also asked how he finds time to keep up the romance with his wife amidst their busy schedules.
Speaking to E! Online at the same 24 Hour Plays event in Santa Monica, California, he jokingly replied: "We don't, it's perfect. That's why we've been together for so long."

Antonio Banderas is reportedly growing close to Sharon Stone.
The 53-year-old actor - who split from wife Melanie Griffith earlier this month after 18 years of marriage - and his old friend are said to be taking a "very relaxed" approach to a any potential romance, but friends say there is a definite "spark" between them.
A source said: "Antonio and Sharon have been great friends for years. They have always flirted outrageously and now they're closer than ever.
"It's all very relaxed at the moment and they want to keep it quiet out of respect for Melanie, but there's no denying the spark is there."
Antonio and Sharon - whose romance with Martin Mica ended last year - are said to even be planning a holiday next month.
The source continued: "Antonio and Sharon are making plans for a getaway together in July. They've both been married twice before and are just enjoying having fun."
Melanie - who has 17-year-old daughter Stella with her estranged spouse - is said to feel "weird" about the 'Shrek' star's potential new romance, but thinks it is right for them to move on.
The source told the new UK issue of Grazia magazine: "Mel feels weird about Sharon and Antonio's closeness, but knows they both needed to move on from the marriage.
"Relations have been at breaking point for some time and they both seem to have decided that they would be better off finding happiness elsewhere instead of living in misery together."

Katie Price "owes it" to her children to "stand by" Kieran Hayler.
The sexy star - who is pregnant with her second child with her cheating spouse - is supporting her husband through treatment for "historic issues" because she wants him to be a "positive influence" on their kids, though she is still unsure whether their marriage has a future following revelations he cheated on her with her best friend Jane Pountney and a mystery other woman.
Writing in her Now magazine column, she revealed: "Kieran's undergoing treatment with respect to some historic issues.
"He's the father of one, and God willing, soon two of my children. I feel I owe it to them to stand by him and support him in his efforts to resolve his issues so he can be a positive influence in our lives.
"What that means for me and Kieran long-term, I have no idea. I'll help him where I can but what the future holds is impossible to say."
Katie - who has son Jett, 10 months, with Kieran, and kids Harvey, 12, Junior, nine, and Princess Tiaamii, six, from previous relationships - is trying to focus on her pregnancy for now and says her other kids can't wait for the new arrival.
She said: "My bump - or the third boob as Harvey likes to call it - is developing very well.
"Both Princess and Junior can't wait for their new sister to arrive and are already whispering their hellos and sending kisses. As for Jett, well, he's just dribbling with anticipation at the moment."

Steven Spielberg sends 'Jurassic World' director Colin Trevorrow ideas for the film.
The legendary director of 'Jurassic Park' and 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' is keen to help Trevorrow with his upcoming reboot, which is based on Michael Crichton's dinosaur disaster novel of the same name, and is said to have been sending him ideas on what he thinks would work well.
Quizzed on whether Spielberg had given him any advice, Trevorrow told The Hollywood Reporter: "Words of wisdom, every day. He'll send ideas and he'll draw out ideas on pads of paper, and I'll shoot them."
'Jurassic World' will star 'Guardians of the Galaxy' actor Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard - who played Gwen Stacy in 2007's 'Spider-Man 3' - and is set 22 years after the parks opening.
Howard, 33, said of being chosen for the film: "I feel like 'Jurassic Park' was our generation's 'Star Wars' - it's a big deal."
Meanwhile, Pratt has teased what will cause the latest disaster at the dinosaur park, saying: "People from around the world, 20,000 visitors a day, come to see the dinosaurs and several attractions.
"It's been around long enough to where attendance starts to fall off a little bit. So they've decided to come up with a new attraction to bring even more people in.
"You're never going to believe it, but it doesn't go well."
'Jurassic World' is slated for release in June 2015.

JWoww feels like a "sumo wrestler" in the final stages of her pregnancy.
The former 'Jersey Shore' star - who is nine months pregnant with her first child with fiancé Roger Mathews - can't wait to meet their baby girl in a few weeks.
The 28-year-old beauty wrote on her official website: "My 8.5/9th month has been a bit crazy! She finally popped and I feel like I'm walking around like a sumo wrestler lol! (sic)"
She also shared two sonograms of their unborn daughter and told her fans: "She's measuring like a chubby monkey and has big feet like her parents."
The reality TV star, real name Jenni Farley, has had a tough pregnancy, as is suffering from sciatica, a condition that causes pain to radiate down the spine, hips and butt, but she refuses to take pain killers.
She said: "She's causing pretty bad sciatica and even though my doctor said it is okay to take tylenol I like to avoid it all cost. So instead I tried an ice pack with a cloth side and guess what?... I'm the only person in June who got severe frost bite (sic).
"Disgusting right!? Took over a month to heal."
She added: "But she's perfect and because of that I'll take all the back pain in the world! I can't wait to meet her in a few weeks!!!!"

Jennifer Lopez still believes in marriage.
The 'Booty' hitmaker - who has been divorced three times and recently split from her 27-year-old boyfriend Casper Smart after two-and-a-half-years together - hasn't given up on love and would love to walk down the aisle again in the future.

The couple, whose relationship was recently rumoured to be on the rocks, attended a bash for the 42-year-old actor's upcoming HBO series, 'The Leftovers,' at Tao Downtown, with friends after walking the red carpet at the premiere on Monday night (23.06.14).
An eyewitness told E! News: "Justin and Jennifer were very lovey dovey. They were upstairs in a private VIP area all night with Liv Tyler and Jason Bateman.

Justin Bieber was involved in a car crash on Tuesday (24.06.14).
The 20-year-old star was travelling in an Escalade when it was reportedly hit by a BMW that was pulling out of a parking garage near Bouchon restaurant in Beverly Hills, California at approximately 2 p.m., but no one was injured.
An eyewitness told gossip website TMZ.com that the 'Confident' hitmaker - who wasn't behind the wheel - was unfazed by the collision and almost immediately jumped out of the SVU and into another vehicle to continue his journey.
The source said that Justin's Escalade was being chased by a paparazzo at the time of the incident and the BMW misjudged the speed it was travelling at before smashing into it.
The Canadian star recently moved into two new rental properties in the upmarket neighbourhood, and it was previously reported that police have been called to his apartments twice already because of his alleged partying.
Justin has rekindled his on-again, off-again relationship with Selena Gomez, whom he first started dating in 2010, but the 21-year-old beauty wants to take their romance slowly this time.
A source said: "She still loves him. It is hard for her to get over him, because they have so much history.
"You just can't drop those feelings. There is too much there."

Angelina Jolie insists she has no plans to retire "completely."
The Oscar-winning actress - who previously hinted she is preparing to step away from her career in front of the camera to focus on her other passions, including her humanitarian work - plans to be much more selective, but will continue to take on roles that challenge her.
The 38-year-old star told reporters at a press conference in Japan ahead of the Tokyo premiere of 'Maleficent': "I'm not retiring completely, but I'm going to focus more on my writing, directing and my humanitarian work, so I will do less films and hopefully that will also make it possible to be very selective and do a few I feel really compelled to do. The 'Burn' hitmaker admits she's addicted to the traditional Indian discipline and can't go a day without an intense workout session.
The 27-year-old singer said: "I get the biggest high when I do yoga. People don't realise that there's such an incredible drug in life that doesn't involve any substances."
The British beauty added: "My training is part of my life. It's something I need to do every day, because it affects my mood, my fitness, even my mind-set onstage."
Ellie - who is dating McFly star Dougie Poynter, who sought treatment in rehab for alcohol and drug addiction in 2011 - also enjoys running on a regular basis, even when she's touring, because it helps her to feel more in control of her life.
