Eli Wallach has died aged 98

Eli Wallach has died at the age of 98.
The actor, who was best known for starring as Tuco opposite Clint Eastwood in Sergio Leone's spaghetti western 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly', has passed away, his daughter Katherine has confirmed to the New York Times newspaper.
Wallach began his film career in 1956 after 10 years of acting on stage and his portrayal of bandit chief Calvera in 1960's 'The Magnificent Seven' was regarded by many as his definitive role.
The character actor was never nominated for an Oscar during his 60-year career, but the Academy awarded the "quintessential chameleon" an honorary prize in 2011 for "effortlessly inhabiting a wide range of characters, while putting his inimitable stamp on every role."
Other films in which he starred include 'How the West Was Won' and 'The Misfits' but the actor previously claimed that strangers often recognised him for his role as Tuco and would whistle the distinctive theme tune of 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' to him.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted him as saying: "As an actor I've played more bandits, thieves, warlords, molesters and Mafioso than you could shake a stick at."
Wallach - who was married to 'The Shining' actress Anne Jackson - also had a successful career in light comedy and appeared in a number of TV shows including 'Mr. Freeze', in which he played the mad scientist and enemy of Batman.
The veteran actor's last role was in 2010's 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' at the age of 94.

George Clooney entertains future mother-in-law

George Clooney "gets along famously" with his future mother-in-law.
The 53-year-old actor spent the weekend with fiancee Amal Alamuddin and her mother Baria -who is foreign editor of Lebanese newspaper Al-Hayat and regularly appears on TV - at his villa in Lake Como, Italy and the trio had a great time together.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "They say the only thing more intimidating than a huge Hollywood film star is a mother-in-law, yet George showed no signs of nerves. Baria has the ability to put anyone at ease and she was equally at ease around George.
"She is not your typical mother-in-law and back in Lebanon she is a star in her own right. They all get along famously together."
George and Amal, 36, are expected to marry in September and they reportedly spent part of Baria's visit scouting potential wedding venues.
A source told the Daily Express newspaper: "Amal and her mum were smiling, it was going pretty great.
"Amal's mum left the next day and at the airport they all just looked so happy."
One of the venues visited by the couple was the luxury Villa D'Este, which the couple were seen arriving at by boat.

Demi Lovato reveals her grandfather was gay

Demi Lovato has revealed her grandfather was gay.
The 'Skyscraper' singer - who is a vocal LGBT rights campaigner - was inspired by her late family member's bravery to come out in the '60s and has adopted his "spirit" to fight for the cause.
Demi made the revelation as she presented an award at Logo TV's first Trailblazers Awards to the 'Orange Is The New Black' cast last night (24.06.14).
She said: "I've never spoken about this before, but my grandfather was a trailblazer himself.
"He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s, and I feel that a lot of my spirit has come from him. He passed away a few years later and I only wish he could have been able to see all the progress that has been made."
The 21-year-old star - who was named the grand marshal of Los Angeles' gay pride earlier this month and is set to perform at New York's gay pride festivities over the weekend - also thanked the LGBT trailblazers for accepting her in to the community.
She said: "It's such an honor to be welcomed and embraced by the LGBT community, so thank you very much."
During the star studded event held in New York City former president Bill Clinton also honoured Edie Windsor, whose lawsuit against the federal government led to the Supreme Court overturning the Defense of Marriage Act in June last year.
Demi wrote on Twitter at the time: "Gay, straight, lesbian, bi..... No one is better than anyone else. What an incredible day for California AND for equality."

Gary Oldman apologises for offending Jews

Gary Oldman has apologised for offending Jewish people in his Playboy interview.
The 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' actor made the comments while defending the anti-Semitic behaviour of Mel Gibson during his recent interview with the magazine, in which he also referred to political correctness as being "c**p", but he's now spoken out to apologise to anyone he may have offended.
Referring to another remark in the interview, in which he stated that Hollywood is a "town run by Jews", he said: "I am deeply remorseful that comments I recently made in the Playboy interview were offensive to many Jewish people.
"Upon reading my comments in print - I see how insensitive they may be, and how they may indeed contribute to the furtherance of a false stereotype.
"Anything that contributes to this stereotype is unacceptable, including my own words on the matter."
The 56-year-old star - who also defended '30 Rock' actor Alec Baldwin over his alleged homophobic rant during his chat with Playboy - went on to insist that rather than being against the role of Jews in Hollywood, he was actually an admirer of their contribution to the movie industry.
According to a statement published on Deadline.com, he added: "If, during the interview, I had been asked to elaborate on this point I would have pointed out that I had just finished reading Neal Gabler's superb book about the Jews and Hollywood, 'An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood'.
"The fact is that our business, and my own career specifically, owes an enormous debt to that contribution."
"I hope you will know that this apology is heartfelt, genuine, and that I have an enormous personal affinity for the Jewish people in general, and those specifically in my life."

David Beckham and Tom Cruise spotted in London pub

David Beckham and Tom Cruise left fans stunned as they enjoyed drinks at a pub in Notting Hill, London.
The A-list pals opted against expensive restaurants and private members' clubs as they met up for a drink on Monday (23.06.14) at Irish pub The Cow, and their boozy visit sent regulars into a frenzy.
Patron Lisa Freid, who "couldn't believe" her eyes, snapped a sneaky picture which she posted on her Instagram account.
The eagle-eyed fan punctuated her photo by posting a series of hashtags including "#wtf #justnexttous #chilling (sic)".
Another Instagram user also took a picture of the actor and soccer star, writing: "Another Monday night at the pub with David and Tom".
Tom, 51, and David, 39, shared a bottle of wine, while the retired soccer star was also seen nursing a pint of Guinness ale.
The stars - who have been friends since 2003 - dressed casually for their drinking session and appeared in high spirits as they reunited.
The 'Mission: Impossible' star and his British pal became incredibly close when David and his wife Victoria, 40, moved to Los Angeles in 2007 when the soccer ace was signed by the LA Galaxy soccer team.
David recently confessed he and Tom held regular movie nights while he lived in the sunny city with his family.
He said: "When we were living in LA, Tom Cruise lived two minutes away. He's a good friend. There were occasions when I'd call him up and ask him if he had a new movie that wasn't out yet, and I'd go round and watch it with him."

Victoria Pendleton interested in acting

Victoria Pendleton wants to be an actress.
The Olympic medallist claims filming a cameo role on 'Emmerdale' has given her the acting bug and she would consider pursuing a TV career following her retirement from professional cycling after the London 2012 Olympics.
She said: "I'd genuinely love to learn acting skills. Just having done a bit, it's such a brilliant job! It seems so much fun. I was like, 'Is it always this relaxed? And they said, 'Yeah, it is actually.' "
Victoria, who got her first taste of television when she starred in 'Strictly Come Dancing', appears as herself in an upcoming episode of the ITV soap, which airs the night before the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in Yorkshire on July 5.
The storyline sees the athlete booked by Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) for the grand opening of the newly-refurbished Home Farm.
She teased: "It's a comical scene, not so much me being comical but the other characters around me are being awkward. We laughed a lot filming it."
Victoria, 33, and her family are long-time fans of 'Emmerdale', so she brought her mum along to meet cast members including Gaynor Faye and Jason Merrells.
She said: "It was lovely because all the actors were so friendly and approachable and were all chatting to my mum.
"I didn't have to say too much and I'm playing myself so hopefully it's convincing. If there's anyone I can play, it's me."

Bobby Norris: Gemma Collins struggling on TOWIM

Bobby Norris says Gemma Collins is struggling to cope on 'The Only Way Is Marbs'.
'The Only Way Is Essex' star thinks his best pal is having a hard time seeing her former on/off boyfriend James 'Arg' Argent grow closer to his ex-girlfriend Lydia Bright during filming for the ITV2 series' annual trip to Marbella, Spain.
Although Gemma has now found a new man, Bobby thinks she'll always carry a torch for Arg.
He said: "Seeing Arg fall back in love with Lydia, I think she'll find it hard."
The 27-year-old reality star - who is currently having his own relationship problems with his boyfriend Harry Derbidge - thinks Gemma was "in love" with Arg during the last series of TOWIE, despite her telling him that their relationship would never work.
Bobby told heat magazine: "I feel sorry for her - there's nothing like having unrequited love for someone. They had such a whirlwind romance in Marbella, so it's going to bring it back for Gem.
"I'm a little bit worried for her, but I hope she's alright."

Vernon Kay’s daughters make him ‘cry all the time’

Vernon Kay's daughters make him "cry all the time".
The TV presenter admits his two girls, Phoebe, nine, and Amber, five, with 'Strictly Come Dancing' host Tess Daly have the ability to reduce him to tears and he's become softer after becoming a father.
He told Britain's OK! magazine: "I cry all the time. Whenever the kids do something, I cry. When we were on holiday recently, both our girls performed songs from 'Frozen' at a talent show. I bawled my eyes out!"
Vernon, 40, is glad the couple's children are old enough to take care of themselves a bit more and has enjoyed the new social life that comes with being a parent.
He explained: "They're both independent, they get dressed, clean their teeth, put their school uniforms on and Tess does them a lovely ponytail. There are no nappies or feeds in the middle of the night!
"And you make friends with the parents at the school. That's really nice. I've got a new circle of friends through the kids."
The 'Family Fortunes' presenter recently celebrated his landmark 40th birthday but doesn't feel any different.
Vernon added: "I'm not really bothered. I don't feel old. I feel invigorated - Tess will back me up on that! I still feel like I can go to Ibiza and hit the dancefloor."

Michelle Williams: I’ll never separate from band

Michelle Williams claims she will never separate herself from her Destiny's Child bandmates.
The singer is working on her new album 'Journey To Freedom', which includes the single 'Say Yes', featuring Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland, with the three women appearing in the video for the track.
Michelle said: "It's not going on a Destiny's Child album, it's going on my album featuring Beyoncé and Kelly, the same way Kelly featured us on her album. But no matter how much we try to separate ourselves when we're together, it is what it is - this is the group."
'Journey To Freedom' is Michelle's fourth solo record, and it was always part of her plan to work with Beyoncé and Kelly on the project.
The trio also made a promise to continue teaming up on each other's solo projects, "Whether that is appearing with Beyoncé from time to time on her tours, or on shows, or Kelly's album."
She added: "It feels wonderful [to work with them], and no matter how much we try to say it's not a Destiny's Child song [it doesn't matter]."
The reunion, which reportedly came together after Beyoncé and Kelly heard Michelle's single and loved it, was supposed to be kept a secret.
However, when the women went to shoot video for the song in a residential area and people started to gossip.
Michelle told the Hollywood Reporter: "We filmed at somebody's house, and they probably got excited and called their cousins and friends and, next thing you know, the whole town was on one street.
"I woke up to the news of the song being leaked and I just hate when that happens because it was an unmastered version."

Metallica tried to play Glastonbury for years

Metallica have asked to play Glastonbury festival every year.
The heavy metal band will make history by headlining the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night (28.06.14) and have apparently been asking to perform at the Worthy Farm musical extravaganza for years.
Festival founder Michael Eavis told The Guardian newspaper: "I have to see what Metallica do. Metallica have been trying to play for so long - they ring every year, and they're so polite about it. 'We'd love to be there, we're getting older, can we play it now?'
"That sort of thing. The least I can do is to watch them."
Metallica have received mixed responses from music-lovers about their addition to the line-up alongside Kasabian and Arcade Fire, but guitarist Kirk Hammett is unfazed and joked he didn't realise it was such a big deal since he thought they had already played the festival.
Kirk explained to NME magazine: "It's entertaining to watch the media circus fret over our little band. I've just been kicking back and enjoying it, because frankly - I thought we already played Glastonbury!
I thought we did it with System Of A Down back in 2004 or something. I mistook it for a gig we played in Ireland. But when the initial offer came, I said to our management, 'Glastonbury, we've played it before!'"
