Prince George makes first royal engagement

Britain's Prince George played with "more babies" than he ever had during his first public engagement.
The eight-month-old tot joined his parents Duchess Catherine and Prince William at a coffee afternoon in New Zealand's Government House today (09.04.14), where he mingled with 10 local children around his age and appeared to have a lot of fun.
Grant Collins, 38, who was joined at the event by partner Magda Gurbowicz, 35, and their son Lucas, said: "We spoke to the Duchess about group play - George had never played with so many babies before.
"She said it was the most amount of babies they'd ever had in a room with George. He does see other babies, but not many in a group like this."
The royal prince happily crawled around the room and even snatched a doll from another baby before throwing it to the floor.
Grant added: "George is bubbly, quite feisty and he took control. He crawled to the centre of the room and he owned the place.
"He honed in on certain toys and took the ones that he wanted, no-one was going to stand in his way!"
George's parents were happy to share stories of first time parenting with the other adults in the group.
Sheila and Soani Lemalie met the couple with baby TagiiLima, who is known as TJ and the tot's mother found the pair to be very "charming".
Sheila said: "It was a very special time.
"We had a chance to cuddle George - he is very strong and very advanced.
"We talked to the duke and duchess about parenting - and to the duchess about her role as both a mother and a royal.
"She said she was lucky to have help with George from her family and her friends.
"She is very down-to-earth and charming - they both are.
"Prince William said he supported his wife by giving George his bottle at night and putting him to bed."

Simon Cowell blames Gary for X Factor slump

Simon Cowell blames Gary Barlow for 'The X Factor's slump.
The music mogul was replaced by the Take That frontman as head judge when he left in 2010 to work on the US version of the show, and he thinks he and the 'Greatest Day' hitmaker have very different ways of approaching their work.
He said: "The truth is -- and I am not being rude -- I wouldn't hire Gary to run my record label.
"Essentially that is what you are doing with 'The X Factor' judging panel. But if Gary and I were running a record label we would do it in a different way."
Simon is confident that his return is exactly what the show needs to turn it around.
He told The Sun newspaper: "Gary was seen as the head judge -- and so am I.
"I do believe I am the best person at spotting a potential star and making them work well on the show.
"That is what I am good at doing, not being a big-mouth on the show. It is making the show I am on better."
And the 54-year-old star thinks pop stars don't always work on the judging panel as they worry finding a talented artist would overshadow their own careers.
He said: "I think all these shows have become so celebrity driven, you are hiring someone based on how famous they are and I am not sure that is a good thing in the long term.
"A record executive is more likely to want to find the next big star than another artist who may be thinking, 'I have found a star who could sell more records than me'. I run a record label so I couldn't care less."
Simon will judge the new series of the show alongside another former panelist, Cheryl Cole, while Louis Walsh is also expected to return and a fourth face has yet to be confirmed.

Miley Cyrus wants equality

Miley Cyrus wants "equality for everybody".
The 21-year-old singer doesn't think women should be viewed as superior to men, but she thinks there is still some way to go before both genders are treated equally.
Speaking to the new edition of America's ELLE magazine, she said: "I'm just about equality, period. It's not like, I'm a woman, women should be in charge! I just want there to be equality for everybody. I still don't think we're there 100 percent."
The 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker also slammed the criticism she receives for her raunchy dance moves as she believes there is a huge double standard in the music industry.
She said: "I mean, guy rappers grab their crotch all f***ing day and have hos around them, but no one talks about it. But if I grab my crotch and I have hot model b***hes around me around me, I'm degrading women?"
"I'm a woman - I should be able to have girls around me! But I'm part of the evolution of that. I hope."
And the former Disney star admitted her fans give her "purpose" and she feels proud that she has gone some way towards making people feel comfortable with expressing their sexuality.
She said: "I have guys and girls that come out, and they're like, 'The only reason I'm able to admit that I'm gay is because you've made me feel like that's OK.'
"That is so intense, because that is a part of this generation - it wasn't always accepted - and I feel like I am a big part of that change.
"Or they know that I've struggled with depression, and that helped them get over theirs. That gives me a big purpose - a reason to wake up in the morning that's bigger than to put on my f**king feathers and my little outfits."

Lena Dunham ‘disappointed’ she wasn’t gay

Lena Dunham was "disappointed" to discover she wasn't gay.
The 'Girls' star claims her "connection" to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community is so "strong" that she was overjoyed when her sister, Grace, 22, came out at the age of 17.
Speaking at Point Honors Gala in New York, which helps LGBT students and those who are questioning their sexuality, Lena said: "I have always felt a strong and emotional connection to members of the LGBTQ community. It was actually a huge disappointment for me when I came of age and realised that I was sexually attracted to men.
"So when my sister came out, I thought, 'Thank God, now someone in this family can truly represent my beliefs and passions'. "
Lena - who is in a relationship with Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff - finds gay men attractive, and joked that she had dated a couple in the past.
She laughed: "This is probably the most attractive room I have yet to enter, Gay men clean up real good, which is probably why I have dated so many of you."
Lena has spoken openly before of her past relationships with men who have later come out as homosexual, and she insists it's not something she feels ashamed of.
She previously said: "It's something I'm actually proud of. The best option is that people who are confused about their sexuality feel really comfortable with me. The worst option is that I turn them."

Peaches Geldof ‘happier than ever’ before death

Peaches Geldof claimed she was "happier than ever" in her last magazine column.
The late star - who was found dead at the home she shared with her husband Thomas Cohen and their sons Astala, 23 months, and Phaedra, 11 months, on Monday (07.04.14) - gushed about the joys of being a young mother in the pages of Mother & Baby magazine just weeks before her untimely death, claiming her family saved her from a life of "pure apathy".
She wrote: "Other than work there was nothing stopping me from having constant fun. But it was becoming boring, I wanted an anchor. I craved it.
"And when I had two wailing, smiling, joyful little blobs of waddling pink flesh they became my entire existence and saved me from one of pure apathy.
"I had the perfect life, two babies who loved me more than anything. It was and is bliss.
"I'm happier than ever. I've achieved a sort of perfect balance. Right now life is good. And being a mum is the best part of it."
Yesterday (08.04.14), police continued to search her house in Wrotham, Kent, but Peaches death is still being treated as "unexplained".
The 25-year-old star's heartbroken father Bob Geldof flew home to London yesterday, and his eldest daughter Fifi, 31, is said to be looking after him and her younger sisters Pixie, 23, and Tiger Lily, 17.
Meanwhile, a postmortem examination on the journalist's body will be carried out today at Darent Valley hospital in Dartford, Kent, by Dr Peter Graham Jerreat.
A decision on whether an inquest should be held depends on the results of the examination, which could take several weeks, according to Kent county council.

Ed Sheeran wrote about cheating lover

Ed Sheeran admits his track about an ex-girlfriend came about after she ditched him for his friend.
The 'Drunk' singer, who will release his second album 'x' in June, has written a track titled 'Don't' about a bad experience with a former lover, which he claims is "100 per cent true".
Ed told Billboard magazine: "I could have gotten nastier ... there was more s**t that I didn't put in.
"I was seeing someone for a bit of time, and then they ended up physically involved with one of my friends in the same hotel that we were staying in, while I was downstairs. And I feel like, 'Treat people how you want to be treated'."
The 23-year-old singer also revealed Justin Timberlake was "pretty close to a direct inspiration" for his new track 'Sing'.
He explained: "I love Justified and FutureSex/LoveSounds, so I took inspiration from those."
Talking about the follow-up to 2011's '+', he added: "The last album was more young and dewy-eyed and innocent. I've still got very nice songs on this record. But some of them are bite-y."

Jessie J: Last album wasn’t successful

Jessie J has admitted her last album wasn't successful.
The 26-year-old singer released 'Alive' in September 2013, and though it debuted at number three in the UK charts, it rapidly fell down the top 40, and its singles also struggled, with her most recent, 'Thunder', peaking at number 13, so she is planning to release new music as soon as possible in order to get her career back on track.
Jessie - whose debut album 'Who You Are' went four times platinum and sparked two number one singles - said: "I'm very aware of how 'Alive' sold, which is why right now I'm working on new music to be put out ASAP.
"I'm a businesswoman as well as an artist and I'm aware 'Alive' didn't do as well as 'Who You Are', but that doesn't mean I'm a flop."
The 'Nobody's Perfect' singer is now "re-evaluating" herself in order to ensure her third album is more successful, and she insists she isn't too upset about her recent chart performance.
She added to The Sun newspaper: "It doesn't mean I'm not talented. It just means I have to re-evaluate what's going on in my life and what I can improve. It's funny that people tell me like I wouldn't see it.
"One year Yves Saint Laurent is the biggest-selling clothing line and the next it's D&G. You can't be the person at the top all the time."

Jermain Jackman: Too many talent shows are about looks

'The Voice' winner Jermain Jackman thinks too many talent shows focus on contestants being "thin and pretty" instead of paying attention to their vocal ability.
The 19-year-old London singer, who triumphed on the BBC One show on Saturday night (05.04.14), beating Sally Barker, Christina Marie and Jamie Johnson, was "over the moon" to have been crowned the winner and was glad the programme was more about talent than looks.
He told BANG Showbiz: "'The Voice' is about the voice ... other talent shows might not just be about the performance, they might be about thin you are and how pretty you are, but this isn't and that's why it's important."
Asked if he felt the show gave too much publicity to the coaches, Ricky Wilson, Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am and Kylie Minogue, instead of the acts, he replied: "It may seem like they give more publicity to the coaches but that's because they're coaches and not judges, they work closely with the contestants.
"There's equal amount of press given to both. Ricky Wilson is successful in his own right, Kaiser Chiefs were so successful.
"If there's an opportunity like 'The Voice', it's win, win. If he's using 'The Voice' for his [new] album, I don't know, but he's also inspired people. I don't think the spotlight is on anyone more than anyone else."
Jermain, who was coached by will.i.am on the show and is also a young Labour Party activist, also wants to continue to work in politics as well as have a successful singing career.
He added: "I've been inspired by will.i.am and people like Wyclef [Jean] who can juggle politics and music. If they can do it, I can do it too, I want to inspire young people, tour, sell loads of records, world domination!"

Peaches Geldof’s funeral to be at family church

Peaches Geldof's funeral will be held at the church where Paula Yates' memorial took place.
The body of the 25-year-old star - who was found dead at the home she shared with husband Thomas Cohen and their sons Astala, 23 months, and Phaedra, 11 months, on Monday (07.04.14) - is expected to be laid to rest at the country church of St Mary Magdalene in Davington, Kent, South East England where she was also married, christened, her parents Bob Geldof and Paula tied the knot, and where her late mother was buried in 2000.
A source said: "The church holds the most bittersweet of memories for the Geldof family. They have had the best of times and the worst of times in that churchyard."
Peaches' devastated family, including sisters Fifi, 31, Pixie, 23, and half-sister Tiger, 17, have gathered at their father's London home to mourn the blonde star and to comfort their Boomtown Rats singer dad, who is said to be too heartbroken to "operate normally".
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Bob is quite obviously too devastated to operate normally.
"Fifi has been his rock. She's the eldest daughter and believes it is her role to get everyone through this appalling time.
"The strength she is showing has been inspirational for them all.
"Bob is in profound pain. The whole family is frantic about how he'll cope.
"He's never been the same since Paula's death and this is an even more devastating heartbreak.
"For him, Peaches was always like a reminder of all Paula's good bits and now she's gone he's shattered. [His girlfriend] Jeanne [Marine] is working very closely with Fifi to protect Bob.
"They're already talking about the funeral because Bob simply isn't up to it."
After the funeral, Jeanne is said to be planning to take Bob overseas to grieve in private.

Rachel Weisz loves working with Daniel Craig

Rachel Weisz thinks working with husband Daniel Craig is "really lovely".
The couple - who rarely appear in public together - were honoured at the Night of Opportunity gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York on Monday (07.04.14) for their work with The Opportunity Network (OppNet), which aims to help underprivileged teens get into education, which they fund, and launch successful careers, and the 44-year-old actress loved having the opportunity to collaborate on the project with her spouse.
She said: "It's really lovely. It's something that was incredibly natural and obvious to us."
Daniel, 46, added: "It's not just the grand gesture that counts [when giving back] - it's the everyday that matters."
However, Rachel - who has seven-year-old son Henry with former partner Darren Aronofsky - admitted meeting the teenagers had caused her to shed some tears.
She told People magazine: "I've met several of these kids and they've told me their stories to my face, and it was very hard not to cry. Not because it was sad, but because they're so inspiring, and so courageous."
And the 'Bourne Legacy' star is hoping her charity work will inspire her son.
She said: "Kids watch their parents closely. They watch everything they do - the good things and the bad things.
"So hopefully they grow up in a culture of caring about others, and it will be up to them to decide what they want to do, but hopefully it will rub off on them."
Inside the event, the couple - who were openly affectionate towards one another - were praised as "authentic" and passionate about the cause by OppNet founder Jessica Pliska.
She said: "People who know them all say the same thing and know this to be true - they're incredibly authentic, they really care about this, and this night really meant a lot to them.
"You can't always say that about everyone ... especially two superstars. We hit the jackpot."

Luke Evans: Weird being recognised in public

Luke Evans finds it "very weird" being recognised in public.
The 34-year-old actor - who has starred in numerous West End productions - plays Bard the Bowman in 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' and after hitting the big screen opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and Evangeline Lilly his fan base is growing.
He told collider.com: "It was very weird because for a long a time no one really recognised me from my films, but 'The Hobbit' has totally changed that and I've had some really special moments, especially with youngsters."
Evans was spotted by some young fans when he was out with his grandparents and recalled their excitement when they met him.
He explained: "I took my grandparents to this mine in South Whales a couple of months ago ... After the tour we went to the cafe and then we left the cafe and the little girls mum came running out. She says, 'Look, I hope you don't mind, but my daughter thinks you're the character from 'The Hobbit' and I know you're not, but would you just pretend that you are for a second, because she's obsessed and she thinks it's you and she followed you into this cafe.' And I was like, 'I am Bard the Bowman,' and she couldn't believe it.
"She went, 'Please come and meet my daughter.' So I went back into this cafe and this little kid, she couldn't quite believe it, but she said, 'I told you it was him! I knew it was him!' Stories like that are really special and really nice."
