The newly crowned monarch and his wife visited the head of the catholic church in their first oversees engagement since Felipe was proclaimed King last month, reports Hello magazine.
The royal pair were greeted by the head of the papal household on Friday(27.06.14) and spent the morning with Pope Francis before attending a meeting with the Secretary of the Vatican State, Pietro Parolin, and flying back to Madrid.
It isn't the first time, King Felipe, 46 and Letizia, 41, have met the Catholic leader. The pair were also welcomed at the papal inauguration in March last year, during which the Pope had asked after Felipe's father, Spain's former King Juan Carlos, who was recovering from an operation.
Felipe replied at the time: "He's getting better, little by little."
Meanwhile, Queen Letizia kept her outfit for the meeting in keeping with strict Vatican protocol known as 'Privilege du blanc' which permits female catholic monarchs and the wives of catholic monarchs to wear white in front of the Pope instead of black.
She wore a cream skirt and jacket, paired with a white clutch, nude wedges and pearl drop earrings.
The newly anointed monarch was officially proclaimed king on June 19 this year after his father Juan Carlos ended his reign in a ceremony at Madrid's Royal Palace at midnight.

Britain's Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited a children's mental health conference.
The royal couple - who have an 11-month-old son Prince George - attended the event yesterday(30.06.14) at The Royal Society of Medicine in London to widen their knowledge of children's mental health issues, reports The Express.
The Duke of Cambridge 32, and Duchess Catherine, 32, listened to the keynote speech at the annual 'Place2Reflect' event - put on by the mental health charity 'Place2Be' - which was delivered by TV presenter Robert Winston.
Duchess Catherine - who is a patron of 'Place2Be' - will continue to raise awareness of children's health issues when she arrives at the Blessed Sacrament School in Islington, North London, today(01.07.14).
The mother of one will discuss the counselling project 'M-PACT Plus' which works to help children born into families affected by drug or alcohol misuse.
Duchess Catherine - who launched the project with comedian John Bishop in April last year - said at the time: "I have been struck by the profound and deeply damaging impact it has on the children of affected parents.
"Research has shown that children of those who are addicted are seven times more likely to have addiction problems themselves.
"They are also brought up surrounded by fear, instability and chaos."

"I would have done anything to keep my family together but it wasn't to be. I do feel pretty strong."
The 43-year-old actress has credited her close friends for helping her through the painful split.
She added: "Some people didn't mind sitting there listening to me talk and still do. It makes you realise who your friends are - which friends you would go into battle with and which ones you don't mind just going shopping with.
"I feel very lucky to have the love I have in my life, and losing one person doesn't change that."
