Ed Sheeran has scored his first number one album on the US Billboard chart.
The 23-year-old singer-songwriter has sold about 210,000 copies of his second record 'x' in America, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Ed took to Twitter to thank fans for their support yesterday (02.07.14), posting: "Had my first #1 album in America this week. Thanks for everyone supporting it, that's mental x (sic)"
The album, which is the follow-up to '+' in 2011, features tracks including 'Don't', 'One' and 'Sing', produced by Pharrell Williams, while the singer also worked with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin.
Fellow British singer Sam Smith is at number two on the Billboard Chart, having shifted more than 67,000 copies of his debut record 'In The Lonely Hour'.
The last time two UK artists were at the top two spots in the chart was in 1993 when albums by Eric Clapton and Sting reached number one and two.
Meanwhile, Ed is set to write new music for One Direction, who are one of the biggest British acts to break America in a number of years.
Ed told We Love Pop magazine: "I'm seeing [their record label boss] Simon Cowell soon. I'm going to his house and playing him some songs. I like that they've moved into a more acoustic zone and I have an idea that I think would work for them, so we'll see."
Ariana Grande has praised Harry Styles as an "amazing songwriter".
The pint-sized warbler has revealed how the One Direction heartthrob just happened to be in the same recording studio as her when she was working on her second studio album 'My Everything', and offered to pen a song for her.
She explained: "I was at the studio one day and he was there, and literally, [songwriters] Johan [Carlsson] and Savan [Kotecha] were like, 'Hey, do you want to write something for Ariana?' And he was like, 'Sure, mate.' And he just did."
It seems the 21-year-old pop diva was impressed with Harry's song-writing efforts as the track, 'A Little Bit of Your Heart', will feature on Ariana's second studio effort, released on August 25.
Appearing on a one-off special of MTV's 'TRL' called 'Total Ariana Live', she gushed: "It's a beautiful song. He's an amazing writer. It's really beautiful. He's amazingly talented."
Harry, 20, has been flexing his musical muscles more and more by writing songs for other artists of late.
The 'You & I' hitmaker worked with Irish rockers Kodaline and penned a song for urban girl band Neon Jungle.
One Direction will release a new album of their own later this year.
Britain's Duchess of Cambridge watched Andy Murray get knocked out of Wimbledon.
The 32-year-old royal looked visibly upset yesterday (02.07.14) as the 27-year-old tennis star failed to defend his title against Grigor Dimitrov, 23, after beating Novak Djokovic in last year's final.
Duchess Catherine - who was joined by her husband the Duke of Cambridge, 32 - could be seen grimacing in the royal box each time the tennis player - who is seeded fifth in the world - dropped points in straight-sets throughout the quarter-final match, reports The Mirror.
The Duke of Cambridge was also spotted holding his head in his hands at the end of the match as Britain's hopes were dashed for a repeat of last year's win - the first for a men's singles champion in 77-years.
In keeping with tradition, Andy bowed to the royal couple as he made his way off court after insisting that his Bulgarian opponent do the same.
He said: "It used to be a tradition. Now it's changed unless there's royalty in there. I made sure to remind him when we were walking off."
He added about his performance: "I just didn't play well today and he played much better than me from the beginning to the end. That's not going to add up to a good day at the office."
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were joined in the royal box by Princess Eugenie, comedian Michael McIntyre and England rugby union coach Stuart Lancaster.
Simon Cowell hired strippers for Cheryl Cole.
The 54-year-old music mogul organised six erotic dancers known as 'Highland Fling' as a surprise for the 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer's 31st birthday.
Simon invited the group to the Edinburgh auditions of the ITV talent show where they performed to Nelly's hit 'Hot In Here' in front of the pair and their fellow judges, Louis Walsh and Spice Girl Mel B.
The 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' singer is said to have been mortified by Simon's birthday surprise while the rest of the judges enjoyed the show.
A source told The Sun: "Cheryl was hiding behind her hands. She looked so embarrassed.
"But the other judges thought it hilarious."
Meanwhile, Cheryl - who turned 31 on Monday (30.06.14) - spent the weekend celebrating in style at her rose-themed birthday party.
The 'Call My Name' hitmaker who infamously got a rose tattoo that covered her lower back and entire butt last year, was treated to a lavish three-tier birthday cake adorned in the thorny flowers and several bouquets of red roses.
The birthday girl posed for a picture on Instagram with a cocktail in hand, in front of the roses and a romantic arrangement of candles.
She captioned the picture: "Happy birthday to me!! such a beautiful night... Thank you for all your well wishes #stunning#surprise [sic]."
On another shot depicting her sumptuous-looking birthday cake she wrote: "Red velvet Rose decorated Birthday cake #AllRoserrrything #Bestbirthdayever thank you for your messages [sic]."
David Arquette has got engaged.
The 42-year-old actor proposed to girlfriend Christina McLarty as they enjoyed dinner at Mastro's steakhouse in Malibu, California with their son Charlie, two months, and his 10-year-old daughter Coco - who he has with ex-wife Courteney Cox - yesterday (02.07.14).
According to E! News, the group arrived at the ocean-view restaurant shortly after 6pm and around 45 minutes later, David asked his family to follow him outside, where he got down on one knee and popped the question with a blue-stoned ring.
Christina was heard asking: "Coco, did you know?"
The youngster replied "maybe", before bursting into giggles and shouting "engaged!".
The 33-year-old entertainment reporter was described as "beaming from ear to ear" when they walked back into the restaurant.
The happy news comes just days after David's ex-wife Courteney announced her own engagement, to Snow Patrol rocker Johnny McDaid and the former couple - who split in 2010 after almost 11 years of marriage - had reportedly had discussions about marriage to their new partners.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "David was just waiting for the right time. He and Courteney both talked about taking the next step in their relationships ... They both want what's best for each other."
Cheryl Cole "wasn't well in the head" when she was fired from 'The US X Factor'.
The 31-year-old star admits she "went through hell" and was "driven mad" when she lost her job on the talent show after just a few weeks in 2011, but now thinks Simon Cowell was right to axe her from the judging panel.
She said: "I can talk about this because I'm OK about it now. But I went through hell and it literally drove me mad. I became so desensitised, you could say terrible things to me and I wouldn't even think about it.
'I'd read awful stuff about myself and not blink. I shut down because I didn't know what else to do.
"Now I can say that Simon was right to get rid of me. I wasn't well in the head when that was going on, so it wasn't going to work. But he wasn't right not to tell me to my face."
The 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer - who divorced husband Ashley Cole in 2010 amid allegations he had cheated on her - also admitted she felt she was having a nervous breakdown last year and realised she needed to take a break from the spotlight.
Cheryl - who has returned to the judging panel of the UK show - told Britain's ELLE magazine: "It only hit me at the beginning of 2013 that I'd completely lost myself. I'd look in a mirror and think, 'Who the hell is she?'
"I didn't know what I thought or felt about anything, couldn't make decisions - I didn't even know what to eat or drink.
"Something was seriously wrong: it felt like a nervous breakdown. I had to stop, get out of my life I'd been living and find myself again. The consequences if I didn't were just too frightening."
George Clooney wants to hire Lana Del Rey to sing at his wedding.
The 53-year-old actor has approached the 'Born to Die' hitmaker's representatives about the possibility of her performing when he marries Amal Alamuddin in Italy in September because his fiancee is such a big fan.
A source revealed: "Amal is a massive fan of Lana's, which has made George determined to make this happen.
"He contacted Lana's people to see if she'll perform at their wedding in Italy."
The 28-year-old singer recently performed at the extravagant nuptials of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and George is now said to be willing to splash out on her services to please his future wife.
The source added: "Of course, unlike Kimye, George doesn't know her personally so he can expect to pay a hefty fee.
"But money is no object. He'll pay Lana whatever she wants to make his wife-to-be-happy."
However, 'The Monuments Men' star may need to consider another wedding singer, as Lana hasn't yet confirmed whether she's willing to take the job as she is worried about her reputation.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Lana hasn't told the couple yet whether or not she'll be able to perform. But she's wondering whether it might look tacky to sing at two of the most high-profile celebrity weddings of the year."
Ozzy Osbourne claims Sharon Osbourne was like a "praying mantis" when she suspected he was taking drugs again.
The Black Sabbath rocker - who is proudly 480 days sober - lived in fear of his wife of 32 years catching him out when he fell off the wagon two years ago because she would become violent with him and even threw a scalding cup of coffee in his face.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Sharon was pretty p****d off with me. She'd wait like a praying mantis to catch me out drunk or stoned. And when she did she would throw books at me, all sorts. She once broke all my platinum discs, smashing them over my head.
"Last year when I was in a hotel, and she found out, she gets a pot of coffee and throws it in my face. It f***ing hurt and I had a red face for days. But she's been great, and we have seen it through."
Ozzy, 65, and Sharon, have since patched things up and now make an effort to prove their love to each other every day, even though the former 'X Factor' judge's home menagerie sometimes gets in the way.
He explained: "I try to be a good husband, I try to be romantic. We get our vows renewed all the time - when I was 50, and then when I turned 65, that was the last time. I buy Sharon flowers, we tell each other we love each other every single day, no matter where in the world I am, and we don't go to bed on an argument.
"We share a bed still, except the dogs get more bloody space in the bed than I do. Bella sleeps with us every night and Sharon gets cross if I disturb her. The key to a happy marriage is give and take - I give and she takes!"
Disney are planning an 'Enchanted' sequel.
According to Deadline, the company have called in 'Shrek 2' screenwriters J. David Stern and David N. Weiss to pen the script for the follow-up to the 2007 live-action fairytale.

Roxanne Pallett doesn't miss 'Emmerdale'.
The 31-year-old actress played Jo Sugden in the Yorkshire soap from 2005 to 2008 but she admits she hasn't "had a chance" to miss the role because she's been keeping so busy with various acting roles in the six years since she left.
Speaking at a special screening of Noel Clarke's new film 'The Anomaly' in London, she told BANG Showbiz: "I don't miss it, but I'm really appreciative of it and I love 'Emmerdale' - I still watch it. I've not had a chance to miss it because I've been working on so many projects since. I try not to miss anything I've done. I try to just put it in a little box and love it tenderly, but I don't look back."
Since quitting 'Emmerdale', Roxanne has starred in Hollywood sequels 'Lake Placid 3' and 'Wrong Turn 6' and has found the world of film to be a vast difference from soap.
She explained: "Soap's very quick and you've got to be really at the top of your game and really disciplined because you shoot every day, then and there - you don't get a rehearsal.
"With films, the parameters are changed because there's no watershed, so they really push you beyond a limit you would expect. But it's nice and it's given me a more rounded view on my acting. It's been good for me."
'Doctor Who' star Noel Clarke says Matt Smith is his favourite Doctor.
The 38-year-old actor - who played Mickey Smith in the BBC sci-fi drama - has appeared to snub his former co-stars Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant by selecting the Eleventh Doctor, who he didn't work, as his favourite incarnation of the Time Lord.
Asked who his favourite Doctor is, Noel told BANG Showbiz: "Matt Smith. He had a different energy. He was just very different. Nobody thought he could match DT [David Tennant], but he did."
Mickey also reveals that he hasn't ruled out a return to the hit show, which now stars Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor.
Speaking at the premiere of his new film 'The Anomaly', he said: "If I was asked to go back then it would definitely be a consideration, yes."
Noel was one of the original stars of the 2005 'Doctor Who' revival, playing the boyfriend of the Doctor's then-companion Rose Tyler (Billie Piper).
He appeared alongside Christopher Eccleston for one series, followed by numerous adventures with David Tennant.
Maggie Gyllenhaal wants a role in 'Downton Abbey'.
The 'Secretary' actress has revealed she would 'love' a part on the ITV period drama - which also stars Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville - but isn't sure how she would fit into the show's plot.
A friend of the Oscar-nominated actress insists she could play one of the upper class Crawley family's promiscuous cousins.
She told The Sun: "I love Downton. I would totally love to be in it. But I don't know how I would fit in.
"There is this parlour game where people say who they would be and a friend said she would of course be Lady Mary. She said I would be the cousin who sleeps with everybody! A rich English playgirl!"
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old actress is set to make her television debut in BBC2's eight-part drama 'The Honourable Woman' which airs tonight.
Maggie took on the role of a British baroness who gets caught up in the Israel-Palestine conflict after being blown away by the show's script.
She said: "I chose this because of the script. I had never read a script with a woman like this.
"I thought I was going to trust it. It is such a scary thing (the Middle East) for most people to talk about that I think people are hungry for ways to sit and think about it.
"I have never been more proud of anything I have ever worked on."
'The Honourable Woman' airs tonight at 9pm on BBC2.
