Vernon Kay to host heart-racing quiz show

Vernon Kay is set to host a brand new daytime quiz show.
The presenter will front ITV's new programme '1,000 Heartbeats', an intense competition which sees contestants battling their own heartbeat to win a money prize.
According to Broadcast, each competitor will be trying to keep it cool as their heart rate gets measured throughout the show - and the faster it beats, the less time they have to answer questions in the quiz.
They will begin the game with 1,000 heartbeats, with each one reducing their time allowance, and Vernon is excited to take on such a "brilliant concept".
He added: "The contestants are going to have to stay calm under real pressure to win big. I can't wait to start recording the shows."
While an air date for the new show hasn't been set yet, it will be produced by Dan Baldwin - Holly Willoughby's husband - who claimed the quiz master "fell in love" with it immediately.
He said: "Vernon is a hugely successful primetime star and capturing him was a real coup. He fell in love with '1,000 Heartbeats' as soon as we pitched it to him."

Samia Ghadie says Alan Halsall was horrified when they had to kiss

Samia Ghadie says Alan Halsall was horrified when they had to kiss on camera.
The 'Coronation Street' actress - who plays Maria Connor in the soap - is very close friends with the actor, and he felt incredibly awkward when she had to lock lips on screen.
She told OK! magazine: "Alan and I have known each other since we were babies. It's always funny when I have to try and kiss him because he absolutely does not want to go anywhere near me. I'm like a sister to him, so it's just so wrong.
"We had this scene where [his character Tyrone Dobbs] had to pull back from me kissing him and Alan literally leapt off the sofa.
"They shouted, 'Cut' and I was like, 'Could you have moved back any quicker - am I that repulsive?' He said, 'I'm sorry, it just feels wrong.' "
Meanwhile, Samia insisted Maria is now over both Tyrone and former boyfriend Marcus Dent and is excited about a new relationship.
She said: "She turned into a complete bunny boiler over Tyrone, she went crazy.
"She's back from Cyprus now, she makes her peace with Marcus before he goes, then I hear there's a new love interest coming along in the not-too-distant future with someone completely different."

Pixie Lott says new album shows the real her

Pixie Lott has bared her "soul" on her new album.
The 'All About Tonight' singer will release her self-titled record next month, and explained her third LP showed off her influence in a way she wished that her second full-length had.
She told Fault magazine: "[I grew up with music that was] very soul influenced but current ... "I grew up listening to music from the '60s and '70s and mixed that with who I am.
"It's the favourite album I've made so far. It best represents me, which is why I named it 'Pixie Lott'.
"I knew I wanted it to have a cohesive sound and not lose the soul. It's what I wanted my second album to be, but that didn't end up happening."
Meanwhile, the blonde star also revealed that her songwriting was inspired by a love of live music - and she tried to reflect that in the "new sound" of the record.
She added: "There is no better feeling for me than singing live for people and I really want that to come across, especially with the new sound of my new album."

Amelia Lily excited for debut album

Amelia Lily says it has been "so exciting" working on her debut album.
The 'X Factor' UK star - who came third place in the talent show in 2011 - has signed a new deal with East West Records and can't wait to release her latest single 'California' next month.
She said: "Life has never been so exciting - I've been busy in the studio writing and recording songs for my upcoming debut album and 'California' is where we start.
"I'm so proud to be releasing this music; I have put my heart and soul into writing them. Expect a few surprises along the way though - it's going to be fun!"
The new single was co-written by Lily and Tim Woodcock, who has penned tracks for the likes of John Newman, The Vamps and The Wanted.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old singer - who reached number two in the UK Singles chart two years ago with debut single 'You Bring Me Joy' - will release her first full-length album later this year, and being signed to a label owned by Warner Music is a big step forward for her.

Damon Albarn pays tribute to Bobby Womack

Damon Albarn says Bobby Womack will "never leave" him.
The Blur star has paid tribute to the late musician - who died last month aged 70 - and admitted he has struggled to "accept that he's not there anymore".
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's 'The Last Word', he said: "In a strange way, I find it very hard to sort of accept that he's not there anymore. For me, he feels very present and I don't quite understand why.
"He taught me things that will never leave me, and he will never leave me."
Damon collaborated with Bobby - who suffered from a number of health problems, including diabetes, pneumonia and colon cancer - on 'Stylo' from Gorillaz's album 'Plastic Beach'.
He said: "He was quite nervous about, one, working with people he'd never met before, but also just the act of getting back in the studio because he'd been really sort of sitting on a couch in LA for many years.
"I didn't really give him any kind of brief and he literally just stood there for 45 minutes just singing. Finally at the end there was a silence. I put my arm around him and he was quite cold. I thought maybe he was going to collapse.
"Some sort of inner voice said to me, 'Go and get him a banana'. And I came back and gave him the banana and he was absolutely fine, but I had no idea he had diabetes."

Guy Pearce turned down Iron Man 3 role at first

Guy Pearce initially turned down a role in 'Iron Man 3'.
The 'Memento' star has confessed he refused to accept the part of villain Aldrich Killian in Shane Black's superhero movie at first because they wouldn't show him the script upfront.
He explained in an interview with Total Film magazine: "My agent was certainly very excited by the prospect of 'Iron Man 3', and I knew it would be seen by a lot more people [than my previous films did]. But for me, it was just a case of going, 'Well, this will be fun. I like Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow and I like what they did before.
"When I watched the first one, I thought, 'Wow, there's something different here.' Shane [Black], who directed the third, had been a fan of mine, apparently. He called up and I had a meeting with him and he said, 'We're not allowed to give you the script but I can tell you all about it.' He ran me through the whole story over lunch. It sounded really interesting.
"But I did end up saying to my agent, 'I'm not going to do this movie until they show me the script.' And my agent went [sharp intake of breath], 'They really don't want to show you the script.' So I said I wasn't going to do it."
Pearce, 46, ended up reaching a compromise with the production team and they sent him a time-sensitive link to the script.
He said: "They sent me the script via link. You have two hours to read it before your computer blows up! And it was fine - it was exactly what we'd talked about."
The star certainly has no regrets about signing on for 'Iron Man 3', which went on to become the sixth highest-grossing film of all time, raking in $1.215 billion at the global box office.
Pearce added: "It's even better than I thought it was going to be; I think it's a great movie."

Ethan Hawke’s easy schedule for Boyhood

Ethan Hawke filmed for "three or four" days a year for 12 years for 'Boyhood'.
The 'Training Day' actor stars alongside Patricia Arquette as the father of lead character Mason (Ellar Coltrane) in the coming of age film, and he's opened up about the experience of filming for just a few days a year over 12 years.
He explained: "We met once a year for 12 years for three or four days. We'd rehearse for three or four days, we'd shoot for three or four days, take a year off and the director would call you up occasionally and say, 'I think next year you might take Mason to a baseball game'."
The groundbreaking project - which was directed by Richard Linklater - was filmed over 12 years with the same cast and follows the story of Mason (Coltrane), who grows up on-screen and Hawke claims they were lucky to find a young actor who remained so committed.
Speaking on 'The View' he explained: "You can't sign a contract for anything more than seven years so the whole thing was an act of faith. The kids could have quit at any time."
Quizzed on why they didn't just use prosthetics to show the ageing rather than film over such a long period of time, he added: "Because it wouldn't be authentic. The movie is striving to say something true about growing up and families.
"He's [Coltrane] a beautiful young actor and a really special person. The truth is we were very lucky, the whole thing would probably have fallen apart in year three or four if we'd picked the wrong kid."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to renovate homes

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are planning a property renovation business.
The couple - who have 12-month-old daughter North together - spent $11 million on a Bel Air mansion last June but have not yet moved in as they have been making improvements to the property and are now said to have decided to sell it on at a huge profit once work has finished.
And insiders told website TMZ that Kim and Kanye have enjoyed the renovation process so much, they want it to be a sideline that will see them work on several houses and estates a year.
The couple are said to be convinced the venture would be a success as they know all the "best people" in fields such as architecture, interior design and landscape gardening.
Despite wanting to sell their new home, the couple are in no hurry to find a new one as they are happy living with the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star's mother Kris Jenner.
The duo were initially hoping to move into the mansion at the end of last year but, after a few early on glitches, their moving date was pushed back until this month but it is still unclear when work on the house will actually be complete.

J. K. Rowling releases Harry Potter tale

J.K. Rowling has released a new 'Harry Potter' story.
The Scottish author published a piece entitled 'Dumbledore's Army Reunites' on her subscription-only Pottermore website today (08.07.14), and the tale, which is told from the perspective of unscrupulous gossip columnist Rita Skeeter features Harry at 34 with "threads of silver" in his hair and a mysterious new scar on his cheek.
The 1,500 word piece reads: "About to turn 34, there are a couple of threads of silver in the famous Auror's black hair, but he continues to wear the distinctive round glasses that some might say are better suited to a style-deficient twelve year old."
The tale sees Harry - who was portrayed in the movie series by Daniel Radcliffe - attending the Quidditch World Cup final with his sons James and Albus, while Rita hints at marriage trouble between the wizard and his wife Ginny, who is working at the game as a reporter.
Also in attendance are Harry's friends Hermione and Ron, who are now deputy head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and co-manager of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes respectively, Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom, who is Hogwarts teacher of Herbology and suggested by Rita to have a drinking problem.
The article marks the first appearance by the well-loved characters since 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' was published seven years ago.
