Tim McGraw reportedly slapped a female fan during a concert on Sunday night (13.07.14).
The 47-year-old country singer, who has daughters Gracie, 17, Maggie, 15, and Audrey, 12, with wife Faith Hill, was captured on video striking the fan after she slapped him twice while he was performing his track 'Truck Yeah' at Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta.
But the star claims he only "instinctively swatted" her, as he feared she was going to rip his jeans off him.
A spokesperson for Tim told gossip website TMZ.com: "Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn't let go as he was moving through the crowd.
"He instinctively swatted to try to keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing!), and so he could get to more fans who could slap hands with him before the end of the show."
Tim recently opened up about his battle to get sober and admitted he only curbed his wild ways in 2008 when he realised he could "lose everything."
He said: "When your wife tells you it's gone too far, that's a big wake-up call. That, and realising you're gonna lose everything you have. Not monetarily, not career-wise, but family-wise.
"It got to the point where my kids were getting older, and it was way past the point that they noticed it. And I noticed that they noticed. That's enough to straighten you out... I drank too much. I partied too much. And did other things too much. Chemically. No needles or that kind of stuff, but... use your imagination."

Jason Biggs has apologised for making an "insensitive and ill-timed" joke about Malaysian Airlines.
The 'Orange Is The New Black' actor sparked outrage when he wrote on Twitter, "Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?" shortly after news broke that a commercial plane carrying 295 passengers was shot down by a missile over the Ukraine on Thursday (07.17.14).
The 36-year-old star initially defended himself, saying he was merely a believer of the idea that laughter is the best medicine, after being inundated with abuse from his followers.
But soon afterwards he deleted the original post and tweeted: "Hey all- ok, so- I am deleting my previous tweets. People were offended, and that was not my intent. Sorry to those of you that were.
"This is obviously a horrible tragedy, and everyone-including myself- is sad and angry about it. Sending positive thoughts to the victims and their families."
The former 'American Pie' star added: "P.S. No one is making me send these tweets- I simply understand that my comments might have come off as insensitive and ill-timed. For that, I apologise."
This isn't the first time the actor has caused controversy online.
He was previously criticized for the posting the following tweet after 'The Bachelorette' contestant Eric Hill died in an accident earlier this year: "Crazy rule change--instead of voting off the contestants, this season #TheBachelorette gets to kill them off."

Ali Cook insists Ian Somerhalder taught him to "pout".
The 39-year-old actor is currently starring alongside the 35-year-old hunk in the new sci-fi thriller 'The Anomaly', but instead of giving him performance tips, Cook was learning how to perfect his camera-ready pose.
Asked if Somerhalder gave him any acting advice, Cook joked: "He taught me how to pose."
The movie, which is set 22 years in the future, follows a former solider [Somerhalder], who finds himself captive in the back of a van, and is only able to stay conscious for nine minutes and 47 seconds at any one time, and therefore only has just under 10 minutes to work out how he ended up captive in the back of a vehicle.
Meanwhile, Cook - who plays Agent Travis in the Noel Clarke directed film - admits he's unsure whether aliens exist and thinks a lot of theories lead towards slavery.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "People look at the pyramids as evidence of alien intervention on this planet. But I think people underestimate the use of slavery."
Asked if he's ever had a unidentified flying object (UFO) experience, Cook added: "I've certainly been probed but I'm not sure it was in the name of science."

Kasabian's Tom Meighan thinks they're the last rock 'n' roll band to "do it properly".
The frontman, along with his bandmates - guitarist Serge Pizzorno, bassist Chris Edwards and drummer Ian Matthews - were out celebrating the release of their new concert film 'Kasabian Summer Solstice' when he claimed they were one of few bands still doing things the old fashioned way.
Speaking the VIP filled Vue cinema in London's Leicester Square, Tom said: "We were the last rock and roll band to beat the internet because we went out on our s**tty tour bus and whether it be 10 people or 100 we fought hard.
"Those early days were amazing. Trying to get there in our little tour bus and stuff and trying to win people over. I remember back in the day before the internet and all that s**t I used to put up posters with Bluetack and look this is what happens."
Serge - who headlined Glastonbury festival with his bandmates last month - agreed, likening their rise to fame to a computer game.

Tom then went on to criticise the way in which the music industry has evolved into the digital age.
He added: "That's disappeared now - hard work - because the internet got big in 2006, it really took off and stuff and we never really had access. I don't like computers any way. The wayward son of Phil Mitchell, who was last seen in August 2012 when he was imprisoned for the murder of Heather Trott, will return to Albert Square later this year with newcomer Harry cast in the role.

Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas introduced a fake baby to their co-stars on Wednesday (16.07.14).
The 'Once Upon a Time' stars, who welcomed their first child, Oliver, into the world in late May, were spotted arriving on the set of the series in Vancouver, Canada with a baby carrier, which contained a fake doll.
An eyewitness told E! News: "Everyone was constantly smiling, so happy and relaxed, even played and joked around with the fake baby!"
The baby doll reportedly appeared to be part of the storyline for the show, involving their characters, Snow White and Prince Charming.
The source said the couple, who got married in April, were very affectionate, and were clearly glad to be hanging out with their friends and colleagues again.
The insider added: "It appears Josh has been working out. He looks good."
