Ariana Grande says she was a "mini-Helena Bonham Carter".
The 'Problem' singer revealed her fifth birthday party was based on shark horror movie 'Jaws', and admitted her behaviour was "a little more concerning" as a child.
She told Billboard magazine: "Dark and deranged. I always wanted to have skeleton face paint on or be wearing a Freddy Krueger mask, and I would carry a hockey stick around.
"I was like a mini-Helena Bonham Carter. For my fifth birthday party we had a Jaws theme and all my friends left crying. I mean, I still am that way.
"But when I was little it was more concerning. There was a stage, when I was 3 or 4, where my mom thought I might grow up to be a serial killer."
Meanwhile, she also discussed the difficulties of fame and admitted while she wants to retain some privacy in her life, she still tries to be herself.
Asked whether she feels pressure to hide things, she said: "I do and sometimes I don't. I vacillate between saying, 'I need to keep some things private' and 'I should be able to be myself, and I need to share what I love and everything with the world!'"

Kendra Wilkinson reportedly plans to kick Hank Baskett out after they finish filming their reality TV series.
The 'Kendra On Top' star has been forced to live under the same roof with her husband - with who she has children Hank, four, and Alijah, three months - and even hosted a barbeque with him recently so cameras could capture the event for the upcoming series of the show.
But an insider insisted she still plans to dump the former NFL star following rumours he cheated on her earlier this year.
The source told InTouch weekly magazine: "If it were up to Kendra, she's have him out of the house sooner rather than later.
"She wants Hank out when filming is over, which is just a month or two more. It's only a matter of time.
"Having him there is a constant reminder of everything that's happened."
Earlier this month, Kendra was seen wearing a T-shirt with the slogan "I'm Not Sorry" emblazoned on it on just two days after she reportedly partied with Robin Thicke, who split from wife Paula Patton earlier this year, as she enjoyed a girls' night out in Los Angeles.
What's more, Kendra - who married Hank in June 2009 at the Playboy Mansion - is said to have consulted a divorce lawyer recently as she was said to be deciding whether or not her and Hank have a future together.

Kanye West wants to build Kim Kardashian West her own church.
The 'No Church in the Wild' hitmaker, who married the 33-year-old beauty in Italy in May, is reportedly planning to create a dramatic $5 million cathedral for the reality TV's family, so they can host future weddings and baptisms there away from prying eyes.
A source told the National Enquirer: "They want somewhere that weddings and baptisms and family funerals can take place for years to come.
"But Kanye being Kanye, it's going to be ludicrously over the top."
The 'Yeezus' rapper is a huge fan of the famous unfinished cathedral La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, which has been under construction since 1882.
The insider added: "Kanye has visited the church several times, and it takes his breath away every time. He's always wanted something similar for his own family.
"He sees it as a monument to him and Kim that will become a major landmark. He says everyone will want to see it, like the Hollywood sign of the Empire State Building.
"He wants this church to include a chapel as a tribute to his mom, along with a stained glass window featuring him, Kim, and their daughter, North."
The source said: "He's already set aside $5 million to get the work started and plans on doing a series of shows to help fund the construction.
"He's also considering starting an online appeal so that fans can donate to the building fund.
"Kim and her mom, Kris, are thrilled that Kanye is doing this for the family."

Taylor Swift says you have to "dress the part" when you leave the gym.
The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' hitmaker has responded to critics who comment on her glamorous image after a tough workout, and joked it's how "everyone looks" following a training session.
Speaking to 'Late Night' host Seth Meyers, she said: "That's how everyone looks when they come out of the gym.
"I like to bring a change of clothes, OK. I just like a change of clothes. I bring a hairbrush with me."
The 24-year-old singer also insisted she feels like she needs to "try a little harder" when she's walking in New York.
She added: "New York feels like one of those cities worth dressing up for.
"I just feel like when i walk out on to the sidewalk in New York I have to just try a little harder.
"Everybody looks like that at the gym, coming to and fro from the gym. You have to really dress the part."
Meanwhile, she has also discussed her dance moves at award shows, and explained she throws shapes because of nerves.
She has said: "I used to get really nervous at awards shows because, seemingly, they're a huge pressure cooker. And everybody seems to be sitting there trying to look more unaffected by being at this awards show than the next person next to them.
"That can have an effect on you, and so you're in the front row and you're sitting there like, 'Maybe I should sit here like this.'
"A couple years ago I just decided, 'No. This is the coolest concert you could ever go to.' "

Jessie J has reportedly fallen out with Adele because she thinks her success has changed her.
The 'Price Tag' singer is said to be annoyed after the 'Skyfall' hitmaker didn't make much of an effort to stay in touch despite both stars being former students at the BRIT performing arts school.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "They used to be close. But now Jessie never hears from Adele, which she finds frustrating.
"It's almost as if she's too busy for their friendship since her phenomenal worldwide success."
The musical pair were close friends at the school, and Jessie has spoken fondly about their time "jamming" in the past.
She has previously said: "I used to have jamming sessions with Adele between classes.
"We used to sing at lunchtime and someone would be playing guitar - it was fun."
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Adele was enjoying a relaxing holiday before she has to start promoting her new album '25'.
An insider previously said: "Adele has chosen a lovely house to give her privacy. But it is also near the nicest beaches."

Jacqueline Jossa is pregnant with Dan Osborne's baby.
The 'EastEnders' actress and her 'The Only Way Is Essex' boyfriend have revealed the happy news they are expecting their first child together, and they are both delighted.
Dan, 23, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Becoming a father has been the most amazing thing to ever happen to me.
"I can't believe I'm going to be a dad again - I'm truly blessed."
The reality TV star already has an eight-month-old son Teddy with previous partner Mega Tomlin, and the couple are "thrilled" at the news they will be having a child of their own.
Jacqueline, 21, added: "We are thrilled by our news."
The pair started dating at the end of last year, and while they are a "young couple", it is said they are still incredibly excited for the future.
A source said: "They're over the moon. They might be a young couple, but Dan loves being a dad, so it's great news for them.
"It does mean Jacqueline will have to take some time out, which will have to be written into the storylines, but producers are being incredibly supportive.
"She's expected to give birth early next year."

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh's 'X Factor' rivalry has become "toxic".
The returning judge has clashed with her co-star repeatedly while filming for the new series, and it is said his claims she isn't fit to be on the show have left her infuriated.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "The atmosphere has become toxic - she hates him with a real passion and it shows.
"It's no secret that Cheryl didn't want Louis on the panel, but since then he has been lording his victory and takes every opportunity to knock her.
"On the panel he has repeatedly slapped her down, and she has given him some poisonous stares in return. If looks could kill, Luis would be a dead man."
According to reports, the pair are being kept apart when they are not filming to stop the rivalry going too far.

Lea Michele says live singing is her ultimate love.
The 27-year-old - who achieved international fame on musical comedy 'Glee', in which she plays Rachel Berry - can't wait to take her album 'Louder' on the road and get back to her original passion.
Asked what she is currently working towards, Lea said: "I can't wait to tour with my album. I grew up on the stage singing live and that I what I love most.
"To go overseas and perform my songs in a concert setting would be so cool."
Lea explained the album - which reached the top spot in the US album charts and the top 20 in the UK - was inspired by "a very special time in her life".
She added: "It has some hard stuff I there, but also some very happy moments. When I heard the album was number one, I was like, 'What? Are you kidding me?' I couldn't believe it. I am so proud of this record."
Lea recently released her autobiography 'Brunette Ambition', which also features lifestyle tips, and hopes readers find it useful.
She explained to Britain's HELLO! magazine: "I put things in the book that I really live on a daily basis. I'm not perfect, but at the end of the day it is this lifestyle that enables me to do what I do."

Eva Green lacks self-confidence away from the camera.
The 'Casino Royale' actress often plays strong on-screen roles, but says this is a marked deviation from her real life character.
She explained: "I'm not confident in real life. I'm drawn to play characters who aren't like me because sometimes they're the people I wish I could be in real life.
"If somebody annoys you, you say, 'Off with their head!' "
The 34-year-old beauty started acting as a means of boosting her self-confidence and has been surprised that is has progressed as far as it has.
She explained to Britain's Hello! magazine: "I was very shy at school - I never talked and thought I would pass out every time the teacher asked me a question.
"So I decided to take these classes to try to pretend to be somebody else and gain some confidence. I really enjoyed it so it went from there."
The revelation is perhaps made more surprising given that Eva's mother, Marlene Jobert, also worked as an actress.
Eva explained: "She was very successful in France but she gave it up in her early 40s. She said, 'This business is quite mad and I want to live my life how I want to live it, without people judging me.'"

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini owns 2,000 pairs of shoes.
The former Girls Aloud star believes the right footwear is key to pulling an outfit together and would never wear anything with a flat sole.
Asked whether she had a big shoe collection, the 31-year-old beauty explained: "If I counted I think it would be 2,000 pairs - if I have rooms filled with them!
"For me, shoes can completely make an outfit - I could just be wearing jeans and a vest top, but put them with a banging pair of heels and it becomes a cool outfit. I never wear flats, even my trainers have heels."
The 'Crazy Stupid Love' singer - who married businessman Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in a surprise ceremony last month - is always keen to achieve a glamorous look whenever she steps out in public.

Kimberley Walsh's partner is going to knit their baby a pair of mittens.
The 32-year-old star - who is eight months pregnant with her first child - admits she was shocked to find out her boyfriend Justin Scott was so talented when it comes to making clothes and she is hoping he will turn his hand at creating some garments when their little one is born.
Speaking about Justin revealing his knitting skills, she said: "I laughed out loud as we've been together for more than 10 years and I didn't know that!
"Apparently his grandma taught him when he was younger. I might set him the task of making some baby mittens. He's going to wish he hadn't told me!"
Kimberley discovered Justin's knitting skills after she showed him a cardigan her mum created for their baby.
She said: "I like it so much I've decided it's going to be the top the baby will wear when I bring him or her home from the hospital."
While her eyesight has deteriorated during her pregnancy, Kimberley admits she has enjoyed her pregnancy.
She wrote in her column for Britain's OK! magazine: "Apparently your eyesight can get better again after the birth, so fingers crossed! But all in all I focus on the positives.
"I've enjoyed being pregnant. I've enjoyed being pregnant - I think it's an amazing thing!"

Eva Marie says the fan reaction to 'Total Divas' has exceeded her expectations.
Eva, 29, is one of the main stars of the new reality show, which follows the most famous females from the WWE, and the flame-haired beauty admits she's been overwhelmed by the reaction of viewers.
She told BANG Showbiz: "Oh my goodness! Since the show aired in the UK, my Twitter feed and social media in general has been going crazy. I mean, I'm so excited that 'Total Divas' has finally come over to the UK.
"We have so many fans. It think some of my biggest fans are from the UK ... and they could not wait for 'Total Divas' to start airing because the anticipation had already grown."
Eva added: "What you'll see in season one is my growth and I immediately got put into the mix with everything. You'll see the progression that'll be in the ring, but I also got to do a lot of amazing opportunities."
