Bono claims his voice improved after his father died.
The U2 frontman believes he was given a "gift" by his late dad Bob Hewson - who lost his battle with cancer in 2001 - after he passed away because his vocal range has improved in a way he always wanted.
He said: "You know, my father used to say to me 'You are a baritone who wants to be a tenor'.
"When my father passed away - we had this incredible relationship, especially during his last days - my voice changed and I felt like to sing better. I feel that he did this gift to me in passing. I think I'm a tenor now!' "
The Irish band are close to their families and guitarist The Edge revealed their fathers used to "get drunk" together during their gigs.
Speaking on Italian TV show 'Che Tempo Che Fa?', he said: "Our dads came on tour with us when we were in Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia. They went together to the bar and they got drunk!"
Bono recently admitted he found it "challenging" writing songs for new album 'Songs of Innocence' because all the lyrics, including a tribute to his late mother Iris, were so personal.
He said: "It's challenging stuff. What that meant was nothing, nothing was to be kept back. So you end up with a song about - I mean, how f***ing embarrassing is this? I write the lyrics to a song about my mother.
"It was like, 'Are you gonna go there?' So I went there. Here's a wild thing - my mother collapsed at her father's graveside 40 years ago yesterday and I've just sent out a love song to her.
"It's pretty excruciating stuff."

Matthew McConaughey "carries the audience through" 'Interstellar'.
Producer Emma Thomas insists the Hollywood hunk - who plays lead character Cooper in the film, which follows a team of space travellers as they go through a wormhole - was the perfect protagonist because viewers easily warm to him and he can make the complicated concepts accessible.
She said: "There are some pretty massive concepts that the audience have to deal with in the film, some pretty out there stuff that happens.
"So it was really important that whoever your protagonist is it's somebody that you're with, because they have to carry the audience through.
"Matthew is entirely that guy. You're with him all the way and he carries everyone through."
McConaughey stars alongside Sir Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway in the movie - which is written by brothers Christopher and Jonah Nolan - and Emma is hopeful people will relate to the human story in the film as well as being wowed by the special effects.
She added in an interview with SFX magazine: "My hope is that people will go and see this film and be wowed by the adventure and the look of it and the worlds that they're taken to, but at the same time be emotionally engaged by the much more tangible story that they're watching, that the characters are living through."

Kesha is "prepared to fight" to get Dr. Luke out of her life.
The 27-year-old star, who filed a lawsuit against her longtime music producer this week, claiming he sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused her for 10 years, has no plans to back down despite the fact he has filed a countersuit.
The 'Warrior' hitmaker's lawyer Mark Geragos told PEOPLE.com: "We are prepared to fight until he agrees to get out of her life once and for all."
The blonde beauty, who sought treatment in rehab for an eating disorder in January, tried to resolve her issues with him privately before she decided to take their battle to court to ask a judge to dissolve their contract.
Mr. Geragos said: "She's made efforts, [but] she is not a confrontational person. The efforts were always met with psychological warfare, [predatory behavior] and things of that ilk. She finally got to a place where she is surrounded by people that are supportive enough that she felt like she could finally do it, and felt like she needed to do it. She just couldn't go on this way. Getting out of the contract is really secondary to extricating herself from his control."
He added: "I have spent quite a bit of time with her recently and I would say her mindset is as good as I have seen it. Obviously nobody wants to get embroiled in litigation and making things public like this, but she understands she has to take a stand. I applaud her bravery for speaking to a broader societal issue of domestic violence.
"This speaks to an untold story in this industry and society at large."
Dr. Luke - real name Lukasz Gottwald - has denied all of Kesha's allegations, and is suing her for breach of contract and defamation.

Drew Barrymore loves making her husband laugh.
The 39-year-old actress, who has two daughters, Olive, two, and Frankie, six months, with art consultant Will Kopelman, says she feels "the prettiest" when she is entertaining him with her interpretative comedy dances.
The 'Blended' star told PEOPLE magazine: "I feel most beautiful when I'm making my husband laugh with my ridiculous dances."
She added: "I do interpretative comedy dances and he's laughing, and his laugh starts to sound almost like Santa Claus because it's such a high pitched capacity. That's when I feel the prettiest. I can't believe I'm telling you this!"
Drew feels more confident since becoming a mother and insists she has no regrets about any of her red carpet choices in the past.
She said: "It's good to appreciate and remember to not be so hard on yourself because I bet it never looks as crazy as it does in your worried eyes. We have to be nicer to ourselves and we probably look thinner and younger and healthier and happier than we worried about in that moment."
She added: "Never get worried about what people say because it's good to not be afraid. And certainly to not be afraid about what people are going to say."

Glenn Close found it difficult to trust her instincts after being raised in a cult.
The 67-year-old actress spent 15 years in the Moral Re-Armament's conservative religious community in Switzerland, where she lived until she was 22, and admits it had a "profound impact" on her.
The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star told The Hollywood Reporter: "[For years], I wouldn't trust any of my instincts because [my beliefs] had all been dictated to me."
Glenn's late father, Dr William Taliaferro Close, became enamoured with the spiritual movement - now known has Initiatives of Change - and moved the family to the organisation's headquarters in the small village of Caux, overlooking Lake Geneva, when she was seven.
The six-time Oscar nominee said: "You basically weren't allowed to do anything, or you were made to feel guilty about any unnatural desire. If you talk to anybody who was in a group that basically dictates how you're supposed to live and what you're supposed to say and how you're supposed to feel, from the time you're seven till the time you're 22, it has a profound impact on you. It's something you have to [consciously overcome] because all of your trigger points are [wrong]."
She added: "Many things led me to leave. I had no toolbox to leave, but I did it... I'm not going to go into [the details of leaving]."
The 'Fatal Attraction' star initially suffered from nightmares about betrayal after leaving the group, but has since forgiven her father, as she believes the experience helped make her a better actress.
She said: "I always thought, the way life works, the burden of forgiveness is on the child. I always felt that I was held together with Scotch tape and paper clips, and, as an actor, that's good."

Heidi Klum and Seal are officially divorced.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge finalised the 'Project Runway' star and the British singer's split in Los Angeles on Tuesday (14.10.14) after the former couple, who separated in January 2012 after seven years of marriage, reached a settlement in July.
The judgment did not include any details about the custody arrangement for their two daughters, Leni, 10, and Lou, four, and two sons, Henry, eight, Johan, seven, or how they have divided their assets.
Months after their split, 'Kiss From a Rose' hitmaker Seal accused the German model of cheating on him with her then-bodyguard Martin Kirsten, whom she dated for 18-months until last January.
The 51-year-old star said at the time: "Whilst I didn't expect anything better from him, I would of thought that Heidi would have shown a little more class and at least waited until we separated first before deciding to fornicate with the help.
"But I guess you all now have the answer you have been looking for for the last seven months."
The duo have since put their differences aside and are frequently spotted on outings with their children.
Heidi, 41, has been dating 27-year-old art dealer Vito Schnabel since February.

Uma Thurman believes she and Arpad Busson can reach a "fair" custody agreement.
The 44-year-old actress's ex-fiancé filed an emergency court order in Manhattan Supreme Court in New York City on Tuesday (14.10.14), seeking custody of their two-year-old daughter, Luna, but she is "optimistic" they can settle their dispute out of court.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the 'Kill Bill' star said: "It is unfortunate that this very private discussion regarding Mr. Busson's visitation rights and his participation in decision making has been made public.
"However, we are optimistic that a fair agreement for both sides will be reached out of court."
Uma got engaged to Arpad, who also has two sons, Flynn, 16, and Cy, 11, with supermodel Elle Macpherson, for the second time in 2011 after calling off their first engagement in 2009, but they ended their relationship for good last April.
The actress, who also has daughter Maya, 16, and son Levon, 12, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, has since been linked to director Quentin Tarantino.
Earlier this year, the star claimed she was happier than she had been in a long time.
She said: "I'm happier now than I've been in many, many years. I'm trying to live as peaceful a personal life as possible. I guess I'm less jaded now than I've ever been, definitely less than when I was younger."

Harrison Ford has become a lifetime member of a British flying club.
The 72-year-old actor, who got his pilot's licence 19 years ago and owns approximately 11 private planes in Los Angeles, including a luxurious G4 jet, has joined Shropshire Aero Club in the West Midlands of England so he can rent aircraft and take to the skies while he shoots 'Star Wars: Episode VII' in London.
Chief instructor Bob Pooler said he received a call from the legendary star "out of the blue" and delivered a plane from Sleap Airfield to Denham close to Pinewood Studios for the actor on Sunday (12.10.14).
He told BBC News: "I checked Harrison out, flew around the patch with him and made sure he was legal to fly and that's it.
"We talked about Star Wars among other movies."
He added: "To rent the airplanes from Sleap you have to become a member and Harrison paid his membership dues until the end of the year.
"I asked him, 'can we make you a temporary member of the aero club?' and he said 'I don't want to be a temporary member, I want to be a lifetime member.'
"I proposed that to the committee at the aero club and of course, without hesitation they said let's make him a lifetime member.
"He's got an open invitation to visit us at any time.
"He's also invited me to visit his place in California."
Harrison developed an interest in flying when he was a teenager but only got his pilot's licence when he was 53.
He previously said: "I never lost the ambition to fly. I just hadn't found the time."
He added: "In my life I have two roles. One of them everyone knows about. It provides a means to the other, which I prefer."
