Emma Watson was "very nervous" before speaking at the United Nations (UN) headquarters.
The 24-year-old actress, who gave a speech about gender inequality as she launched the HeForShe campaign in her role as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in New York City last month, admits it "wasn't an easy thing" for her to do, she but feels "lucky" that she was raised to be a feminist.
The 'Noah' star told the December issue of the UK edition of Elle magazine: "I was very nervous. It wasn't an easy thing for me to do. It felt like, 'Am I going to have lunch with these people, or am I going to be eaten? Am I the lunch?' "
The former 'Harry Potter' actress says she hopes to continue to clear up possible misconceptions about feminism.
She said: "Feminism is not here to dictate to you. It's not prescriptive, it's not dogmatic. All we are here to do is give you a choice. If you want to run for President, you can. If you don't, that's wonderful, too."
She added: "I'm lucky I was raised to believe that my opinion at the dinner table was valuable. My mum and I spoke as loudly as my brothers."
During her acclaimed speech, Emma said she first experienced sexism from the age of eight.
She added: "Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong.
"If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by what we are -- we can all be freer and this is what HeForShe is about. It's about freedom."

Robert Pattinson is reportedly moving back to London to be with FKA twigs.
The 'Rover' actor - who previously admitted he considers Los Angeles his home - is planning to relocate to his native England soon, as he is eager to find a new home with the British singer, real name Tahlia Barnett.
A source close to the 28-year-old actor told the UK's Grazia magazine: "She is behind Rob's decision to move back. He's serious about her.
"They are really happy and he seems keen to make a fresh start, away from the mutual circles he shared with his ex-girlfriend Kristen [Stewart] in LA.
"They've both got busy schedules but they're planning to move to London together in the foreseeable future."
The 'Twilight Saga' heartthrob recently admitted he "might be done" with LA.
He said: "I think I might be done with Los Angeles. I've just realised that in the past few weeks. If you are the kind of person who needs to be pushed into doing something, then Hollywood is not the right place.
"I think I need to spend more time in London, or just move around a bit more."
But earlier this year, he said: "I spent two months in England last year, which is the longest I've spent there in six years, which was nice, but I always go back to England at Christmas and get so depressed that I'm glad to get back to Los Angeles.
"I've really grown to like LA and I guess that's my home at the moment."

Melissa Rivers wants answers about Joan Rivers' death.
The TV producer, who is preparing to file a multi-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit against the Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic in New York City, where her mother died from "predictable" surgical complications while undergoing a minor operation on her vocal cords last month, reportedly isn't looking for any financial gain from the court battle.
A source close Melissa, who inherited $100 million from the late comedienne, told E! News: "It's not about the money. For Melissa, this is about getting an answer about why this happened and making sure it never happens again. The only way to get these answers is to file a lawsuit. Melissa wants answers - not money."
The insider added: "This shouldn't have happened. It was a completely treatable and avoidable complication."
Melissa, 45, also sees the lawsuit as part of a large effort to change policy on a "federal level" with regard to how private clinics function and are regulated.
The New York City Medical Examiner's Office recently released a statement confirming that Joan's brain had been starved of oxygen after she suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest on the operating table, but her only child feels a lot of questions remain unanswered.
The source said she wants to know what decisions were made in the operating room, who made them and what precautions were taken when Joan arrived at the medical centre.

Sean Penn's daughter thinks Charlize Theron is "a powerhouse."
Dylan Penn admits the Oscar-winning actress, who started dating her father late last year, reminds her of her mother, Robin Wright, who split from Sean in 2010, because they're the only women who can shut the 'Milk' actor up.
The 23-year-old model told UsMagazine.com: "She's awesome. They've been away for months working together in South Africa, so I haven't seen much of either of them. She's great and they're amazing together. As long as my dad's happy, I'm happy for both of them."
Asked what she likes about the blonde beauty, she added: "Well, she's brilliant for one thing, and she's the only woman since my mom who can shut my dad up. The only woman! That is a f**king challenge so... She's a powerhouse."
The couple, who went public with their relationship in January, are currently shooting the drama 'The Last Face' in Charlize's native South Africa.
A source previously claimed that Sean and the 'Prometheus' actress, who has adopted son Jackson, three, are already talking about getting married.
Meanwhile, Dylan, who was once linked to Robert Pattinson, is currently on the hunt for a "funny, smart" boyfriend.
She said: "I really don't go off looks but I am into height. I would like them to be a little taller than me. They don't need a good body or anything. I always look at hands or someone's back. If a guy has good hands I'm all about it. Veiny, big hands."

Jennifer Lawrence reportedly dumped Chris Martin because of his friendship with Gwyneth Paltrow.
The 24-year-old actress, who recently split from the Coldplay frontman after four months of dating, thought he was "a little too close" to his estranged wife and grew tired of the attention surrounding their relationship.
A source told PEOPLE magazine: "Everyone jumped the gun with this romance. It is hard for her to understand the feelings between Chris and Gwyneth."
The 'Magic' hitmaker has maintained a close relationship with the 'Iron Man 3' actress for the sake of their daughter, Apple, 10, and son Moses, eight, since their split in March after 10 years of marriage, but their bond made the 'Hunger Games' actress uneasy.
Another insider said: "She broke it off with Chris. She was tired of the spotlight on their relationship and she also thought that Chris and Gwyneth were a little too close for comfort. It was an odd situation for her.
"It was kind of serious but also not really in a sense. It was really just [Jennifer] having fun and living in the moment, enjoying time with someone she likes, but [Chris and Gwyneth's] close relationship got to her in the end and she felt like it wasn't worth it."
But others claim the British rocker was simply too "intense" for the young actress.
A source told MailOnline: "Chris wanted to spend all his free time with Jen - there was a discrepancy between how they viewed their relationship, she's so easy going and he's quite intense.
"Jennifer said Chris is an all or nothing kind of guy, so she chose nothing. She broke up with him late last week. He was completely blindsided, he was really sad about it."
The duo ended their romance amicably and friends haven't ruled out a reconciliation in the future.
The insider added: "It's too early to know what will develop in any of this."

Nicole Kidman says Keith Urban "protects his family" like her late father.
The 'Before I Go to Sleep' actress, who is still devastated following the death of 75-year-old Dr. Antony Kidman from a sudden heart attack last month, admits there are a lot similarities between him and her husband of eight years.
The 47-year-old star told Maria Shriver on the 'Today' Show: "I lost my father, which is a devastating thing for my family and myself right now.
"Keith and my dad -- good men. Choosing to protect his family and take care of himself, but take care of his daughters, and walk the walk, if that makes sense, not just talk the talk."
Nicole, who has two daughters, Sunday, six, and Faith, three, with Keith, has been leaning on the country singer and her religious beliefs for support.
She said: "I do both probably, that would be me right now. I'm lucky to have a rock of a husband and a strong faith. I have both those things."
Meanwhile, the Australian actress insists she wasn't scared to wear no make-up and appear naked in her new psychological thriller alongside Colin Firth.
She said: "I should say yes, but no. Normally, I'm walking around my house with my hair pulled back and no make-up on."

Jennifer Lopez was "consumed with anxiety" during her marriage to Marc Anthony.
The 'Booty' singer, who split from the Latin heartthrob in 2011 after seven years of marriage, decided to end their marriage after suffering a panic attack while preparing for a photoshoot.
In an extract from her upcoming memoir, 'True Love,' obtained by PEOPLE magazine, the 45-year-old star, who has six-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with Marc, reveals: "As I sat there getting made up, my heart was beating out of my chest and I felt like I couldn't breathe... I became consumed with anxiety. What was happening to me? I leaped from my chair and said to my dear manager Benny Medina, 'Benny, something is happening! I feel like I'm going crazy.' My mom was there and she rushed to my side too.
"It was one of those moments when you're so scared you can't even scream. In a blur of fear and panic, I looked at Benny and my mother and blurted out the words: 'I don't think I can be with Marc anymore.' Then I burst into tears."
She adds: "It was out. The thing I feared more than anything in the world. I collapsed into their arms and began to sob. Anybody looking from the outside in would have thought my life was great. I had a husband and two beautiful children. I was on 'American Idol' and my new single 'On The Floor' had gone to number one all over the world.
"What people didn't know was that life really wasn't that good. My relationship was falling apart and I was terrified."
The star announced her split from Marc a month later and calls it the "Hardest.Day.Ever."

Katie Price will only retire when people stop buying her products.
The 34-year-old star - who has dabbled in everything from reality TV shows to clothing and books - insists she has no plans to call it a day at any point because she loves having several business ventures and insists there is plenty more to come.
Speaking on Australian talk show 'The Morning Show', in her first slot as a weekly contributor airing her views on beauty, fashion and motherhood, she said: "I'll only retire when the public stop buying my products.
"Everyone has a shelf life and 20 years on I'm still up there so I'm obviously doing something right.
"I don't just bring out a product and that's it, I think long-term so each season I bring something different out.
"For the last two years I've been pregnant so that's held me back a bit but now I'm on full force and next year there's so many things coming out.
"Some people could just bring a product out and that's it but like I say you've got to think of long term and anything I start, I start small and build from that, it seems to work."
The former model appeared on the show via video link earlier today (29.10.14) and admitted she was quite glad to be in a studio in the UK and out of her house as she is having sleepless nights because her and husband Kieran Hayler's two-month-old daughter Bunny keeps waking up.
She said: "It's nice to be here because I haven't got the feeding duties until I get home later, where I don't get any sleep at the moment. She's a nightmare."
Katie also has son Jett, 14 months, with Kieran as well as son Harvey, 12, from her past relationship with Dwight Yorke and son Junior, nine, and daughter Princess, seven, from her marriage to Peter Andre.

Kim Kardashian West has thanked her step-father Bruce Jenner for teaching her "so much about life".
The 34-year-old star took to her Instagram account to post a nostalgic black and white picture of the pair together and wish him a happy 65th birthday yesterday (28.10.14), and the raven-haired beauty appeared to find it particularly funny referring to the former Olympian as a senior citizen.
She wrote: "Happy Birthday Bruce! You are officially a senior citizen lol! Thank you for teaching me so much about life. I love you so much! Xoxo (sic)"
Kim's sister Kourtney Kardashian, 35, also took to the social networking site to praise the former track and field star - who split from their mother Kris Jenner last year - for being an "inspiration" to her.
In a caption attached to a throwback picture of the ex-sportsman in the USA kit with one of his decathlon medals, she wrote: "Happy birthday Bruce! You have been such an inspiration always. I love you! (sic)"
Bruce's daughter Kendall Jenner, 18, followed suit, posting a picture of her father holding a tennis racquet and adding the caption: "happy birthday to my dad, my everything! (sic)"
But there was no sign of a message from Kris, 58, nor their daughter Kylie, 17, or Kim and Kourtney's sister Khloe, 30, or brother Rob, 27.
What's more, Bruce's sons Brandon, 33, and Brody, 31, from his marriage to Linda Thompson also remained quiet on the social networking site.
Bruce was spotted out and about in Malibu on Tuesday wearing striking red nail polish and holding onto a cigarette.
Kris and Bruce tied the knot in 1991 but the brunette filed for divorce from him last month.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis' daughter already has her own Twitter handle.
The former 'That 70s Show' actors welcomed their first child - daughter Wyatt - into the world earlier this month and Ashton has confessed they were so happy when they finally decided on a name that they set up social media accounts for the four-week-old child to use in the future.
He explained: "We immediately went home and we reserved all the domain names. We got the Twitter handle, the Instagram - everything you could possibly [have]. I don't want a porn site with my daughter's name! It's unacceptable to me and it's not gonna happen!"
The 36-year-old star also revealed they had already decided on a name before Mila, 31, even got pregnant, but then when they found out they were expecting they went off of their original choice.
Speaking on 'Conan' he explained: "We had another name. We had it picked out and were like, 'All right this is the name'. Then we got pregnant a week - a couple of weeks after we picked the name. But then when we were pregnant, the name just didn't fit the energy that we were feeling.
"We were calling it the baby, but never by the name that we had given it.
"On night, Mila was just like, 'This is not the name!' And I'm like, 'OK! It's not the name'. I had to get the creative juices going."

Mike Tyson has claimed he and Robin Williams used to use the same "low-life dealer".
The retired boxer has opened up about battling depression and mental illness and admitted he used to chat with the late Hollywood actor - who committed suicide aged 63 in August - about depression and attend the same meetings as him.
Speaking on 'The Howard Stern Show' on SiriusXM Radio, he said: "I knew Robin. We'd meet each other. People that deal with this situation, we know each other. We all know each other. We meet each other. I've been at a meeting with him, yes.
"This is very interesting. When I met him he said, 'I was waiting for you.' And he started telling me about somebody I was purchasing something from ... You look up to Robin so in my mind I'm saying to myself, 'How does he know this low-life dealer that I know?' "
While the 48-year-old sportsman admitted he was devastated when Robin - who battled depression - died, he was also distraught when Philip Seymour Hoffman died of acute mixed drug toxication in February because he felt the 46-year-old actor's death was closer to home.
He added: "When Mr. Hoffman passed away, this is what you say, 'He was sober for twentysomething years and he died. What kind of chance do I stand?'
"If you have a mental illness you're going to think about suicide. Suicide is our comfort. You always think about it."
Tyson has previously been very open about his battle with depression, and admitted on the radio show that he is "mentally ill" and goes into "depressed modes" at times.
Speaking to Howard, he explained: "I have a mental illness, forget depression. I'm mentally ill."
He then joked: "Of course I am, I'm talking to you."
When asked by the presenter if he really considers himself mental and suffers from a mental illness, he replied: "I would say I do. If is I was to be really honest. When you look at me now, sometimes I've run into my depressed modes too."
When asked if he was on medication, he said: "No ... you can't have a vain guy on medication."
Mike Tyson used same ‘low-life dealer’ as Robin Williams

Britain's Prince Andrew has undertaken a number of official engagements in China.
The 54-year-old prince - who gave up his role as UK trade envoy three years ago - flew out to Beijing last Friday (24.10.14) for a variety of appointments, including opening a school campus, hosting a technology discussion and meeting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
His spokesperson told the Daily Mail newspaper: "The engagements correspond to core areas of His Royal Highness's work in the UK.
"The call upon Premier Li reflects a shared interest in economic relations between Britain and China, in line with the Duke's broader commitment to economic growth and the creation of skilled jobs in the UK."
However, though he has completed his engagements, Andrew has yet to return to the UK, though his representative declined to explain his whereabouts as he is on a "private" break.
They said: "The Duke remains overseas, travelling privately.
"As is standard for all members of the Royal Family, we would not give details of private engagements or travel."
Andrew stepped down as UK Special Representative for International Trade and Investment in 2011 following criticism of his friendship with a convicted paedophile, American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
