Steve McQueen making Paul Robeson biopic

Steve McQueen is working on a biopic about Paul Robeson.
The American star rose to fame in the 1920s as a singer and actor, and soon became involved in the US Civil Rights movement and director McQueen is now going to bring his story to the big screen.
Speaking at the Hidden Heroes awards in New York, he said: "His life and legacy was the film I wanted to make the second after 'Hunger'
"But I didn't have the power, I didn't have the juice."
Throughout his career the actor campaigned against racism and took part in anti-Nazi demonstrations and even supported the miners' strike in South Wales between 1984 and 1985.
Later in his career, Paul was branded a communist by President McCarthy which ended his career as a performer and led to him losing his passport.
Inspired by the man as a teenager, McQueen, 45, recalled the moment a neighbour gave him a newspaper cutting when he was 14 about Robeson.
He recalled: "It was about this black guy who was in Wales and was singing with these miners.
"I was about 14 years old, and not knowing who Paul Robeson was, this black American in Wales, it seemed strange. So then, of course, I just found out that this man was an incredible human being."
At the event, the '12 Years a Slave' creator also revealed Robeson's friend, singer/songwriter Harry Belafonte, will feature in the film.
Speaking of the 'Day O' singer, McQueen said: "We get on like a house on fire. I never thought I'd make a new friend, and a man who is 87 years old but I'm very happy, he's a beautiful man."

Jon Stewart wants Benedict Cumberbatch’s clothes

Jon Stewart has joked he wants to rip Benedict Cumberbatch's clothes off.
The 'Sherlock' actor was starring on an episode of 'The Daily Show' when the 51-year-old host admitted he would love to tear off the star's outfit and auction it off on e-commerce website eBay.
He exclaimed: "I see a lot of guests, I see a lot of presidents and high profile heads of state, it's unbelievable. But you're the first guest where I want to rip your clothes off and sell it on eBay.
"I don't know why. It's upsetting to me."
The host then went on to warn the '12 Years a Slave' actor against re-enacting a recent set of photographs taken of Kim Kardashian West for Paper magazine, which showed the reality TV star's bare derriere.
He quipped: "I feel like if you were to go on the internet and oil up your backside and bare it in a Kardashian-like pose, this planet could end."
Despite the 38-year-old star - who recently proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Sophie Hunter - being off the market for any hopeful suitors, the presenter commented on the extreme reaction which seems to follow him when it comes to the excitable behaviour of his fans.
He said: "You must get a lot of that, the shrieking, the jumping, the clapping?"
Benedict replied: "It doesn't ever normalise. It's wonderful but very strange."
The interview airs on 'The Daily Show' on Comedy Central Extra tomorrow morning (20.11.14) at 00.25am.

Bette Midler spent a decade losing weight

Bette Midler spent 10 years trying to lose her baby weight.
The 68-year-old performer gave birth to her daughter, Sophie Von Haselberg in 1986, and admitted she struggled to shed the pounds she had gained, but now manages to keep a stable weight by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising.
She explained: "I've been very lucky with my figure. When I had my baby I gained 60 pounds - this was 28 years ago - it took me 10 years to lose the extra weight.
"Now I keep it up, I do a little running and watch what I eat."
The 'Wind Beneath My Wings' singer sees her daughter as a "mini-me" after she followed in her footsteps by entering the entertainment industry, despite the 'Hocus Pocus' star warning Sophie that she "would kill her" if she did so.
She said: "My daughter is my mini-me, she's an actor.
"When she was a little girl, I told her that if she ever got into showbusiness I would kill her. Fortunately, she was really young when I told her that and I think she really took it to heart.
"She went all through school, she had very good schooling. She learnt Chinese, she went to China, she worked in China, and then she came back at aged, maybe 25, and said, 'I want to be an actor,' and we looked at her like, 'Oh god!' "
Despite Bette's wishes for her child not to get involved in the world of celebrity, she supported her decision and gushed with pride as she spoke about the 28-year-old star, who will star in an as-yet untitled Woody Allen movie which is set to be released in 2015.
Speaking on ITV's 'Loose Women,' she added: "She went to drama school and came out with flying colours and now she's in a show, and she's in a movie."

Wretch 32: I fancy Aluna Francis

Wretch 32 fancies Aluna Francis.
The 29-year-old has confessed he really likes the brunette beauty - who is one half of electronic music duo AlunaGeorge alongside George Reid - and he also loves the music she makes with her sidekick.
He said: "I like the new Aluna George record 'Supernatural', I fancy her, she's lovely!"
As well as his penchant for 25-year-old stunner, Wretch - who has previously been romantically linked to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Lauren Pope - also likes Emeli Sande, but insisted she is much more of his "musical wife" than anything more than that.
He added: "I've just made a record with Emeli Sande, we don't know what that's for we just make tons of records all the time, we love each other, she's like my musical wife, we just have this thing."
Emeli is part of Band Aid 30's recording of 'Do They Know It's Christmas Time?' and while it has faced plenty of criticism recently after some people claimed stars don't do enough for charity, Wretch - whose real name is Jermaine Sinclair - insisted he would do anything for a good cause.
Speaking to blinkbox Music, he added: "I'd turn up for charity all day, if it's going help and benefit, people love it, it's a talking point and it's for a good cause."

Katie Price ‘shocked’ by Kim Kardashian’s naked photos

Katie Price has blasted Kim Kardashian West for appearing naked in Paper magazine, describing her poses as unattractive.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star attempted to "break the internet" by unveiling her bountiful booty in the publication and the rest of her body in another shot.
However, Katie was not impressed by Kim's photos and thinks she should have stripped off for Playboy magazine again rather than bare all in an unflattering way for Paper.
During an appearance on Australian TV show 'This Morning', she said: "I don't know quite why she did it and it wasn't really an attractive pose and I think it was the wrong kind of magazine for her to have done that in. "When I saw these pictures my reaction was like everyone else, shocked. It wasn't just she's got a bit of flesh out, it's like she's got it all out. I thought she could have saved it for like American Playboy or something. I think it ruined the shoot for me, to be honest. It would be better in Playboy because people could choose to see her naked rather than see her proper, full-on naked."
Despite her dislike of Kim's pics, Katie - who has previously appeared naked in Hugh Hefner's magazine - has also revealed she is returning to her glamour model roots and has posed for a sexy 2015 calendar.
She told Femail on the MailOnline website: "Obviously I have been pregnant for two years so I am looking forward to getting back to work. I can't wait to do more photo shoots, it's where I started and what I do best. I miss them but I want to do proper styled shoots, themed ones that are sexy."
Katie has five children; 15-month-old son Jett and three-month-old daughter Bunny with husband Kieran Hayler, Harvey, 12, from her past relationship with Dwight Yorke and Junior, nine, and Princess Tiaamii, seven, from her marriage to Peter Andre.
This is not the first time Katie, 36, has criticised 34-year-old Kim's body.
Earlier this year on her FUBAR Radio show, Katie said: "I wish I was like Kim Kardashian - she's stunning. But I don't like her body. I'm not into that kind of body. She always seems to go to the gym, so I don't understand it."

Britain’s Duchess of Cornwall has bee venom facials

Britain's Duchess of Cornwall has bee venom facials.
The 67-year-old royal, also known as Camilla Parker Bowles, is said to be a huge fan of the treatment by its creator, skin specialist Deborah Mitchell, and even encouraged her husband, Prince Charles' daughter in law, the Duchess of Cambridge to try the obscure face mask herself.
Deborah told HELLO! Magazine: "Someone that knew Camilla tried the treatment and then after that, I was asked to go to the palace.
"It was really nice. The funny thing is, I don't get blown over by treating famous people. It was nice but a bit surreal really. I felt like I was walking in a dream so I appeared really cool. Sometimes now I still think, actually I should really pinch myself."
Following the success of the first treatment, Deborah was invited to recommend products to Duchess Catherine in the months before her wedding to Prince William in 2011 and has worked closely with the royal family ever since.
Deborah admitted she was impressed by the Duchess of Cambridge's flawless skin, and explained that, as well as the facial treatment, the 32-year-old brunette beauty is also a huge fan of her age defiance cream and silk skin BB cream.
She said: "Kate is absolutely gorgeous and remarkably on the quiet side. She's so sweet though and she hasn't got many spots."

Lucy Watson puts pets first

Lucy Watson couldn't go out with a guy who didn't like her pets.
The 'Made in Chelsea' star dotes on her dog Digby and cat Darcy and doesn't think she would get along with anyone who wasn't a fan of the "main men" in her life.
Asked if she would dump a guy who didn't like her pets, she said: "I'd find it hard to get along with someone if they didn't get on with Digby and Darcy, they are the main men in my life after all."
The 23-year-old beauty loves to spoil her pets but admits they have "expensive taste", though Darcy doesn't like it if she tries to dress him up.
She said: "I've recently discovered Fetch.co.uk and they have a lovely luxury Pet Boutique which has some of my favourite designers like Hunter Mutt & Hounds and Joules. Digby and Darcy have expensive taste!
"Digby does look pretty handsome in his PetLondon tweed bow-tie but cats do not like dress up!"
Lucy thinks her life has "changed for the better" since she joined 'Made in Chelsea' and she doesn't care what her critics say about her because she is just being herself.
She added to BANG Showbiz: "The show is great and I love the debate it encourages, I love tweeting along when it's on air to see what the fans are saying. I'd say it's quite a true representation of me, I don't mind what people say!
"My life has changed definitely for the better, I get to hang out in a city I love and pursue all my interests!"
Lucy Watson has curated a collection from the Pet Boutique available at Fetch.co.uk

Alexandra Burke backs Andrea Faustini for X Factor win

Alexandra Burke is backing Andrea Faustini to win 'The X Factor'.
The 26-year-old star - who won the singing competition in 2008 - is hoping the 20-year-old hopeful from Italy will follow in her successful footsteps.
Speaking at the Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball at London's Landmark Hotel on Tuesday (18.11.14), she told BANG Showbiz: "Andrea is my favourite. I think the first time I heard him sing in boot camp I was blown away. He's been so consistent and he's such a great talent."
The 'Bad Boys' hitmaker admitted she's also a fan of 26-year-old Fleur East - whom she's been friends with for years.
She continued: "Oh and I love Fleur as well, I've known Fleur for years, but Andrea has the crown this year."
However, despite admitting she doesn't think Fleur will win, she's confessed she'd love to perform with her when the contestants each have to sing a duet later in the competition.
She said: "To sing with, it might have to be Fleur because I've never - apart from Beyonce - I've never ever done a duet with a woman, it's always been men, so it'd be nice to have some girl power, plus she can dance. We could probably dance together and have a fierce performance."
Meanwhile, Alexandra admitted she can sympathise with the contestants' struggle to get through the process, confessing it was one of the most difficult things she's ever done.
She added: "You can't knock anyone on that show. It's so hard to even get up on that stage let alone perform in front of millions of people ... From the beginning to the end, it's the most difficult show to do. "

Santa will be a ‘Christmas hero’ in Doctor Who

'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat says Santa Claus will be a "Christmas hero" in the show's upcoming festive episode.
The annual special is to include Kris Kringle - played by Nick Frost - in the TARDIS with the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and the screenwriter has assured any concerned fans that the jolly character will not be a bad guy.
Speaking at a Q&A to launch the Series 8 DVD, he revealed: "Santa could never be evil, for heaven's sake! Santa is both real and a Christmas hero. Any parents who were worried about that I can assure you Santa is presented, as he is in real life, as a great Christmas hero."
Moffat also joked the reason he cast 'Hot Fuzz' star Frost in the role is because Saint Nicholas is actually his alter ego.
He quipped: "Nick actually is the real Santa. He's been faking it up until now. For the first time he's allowing the natural colour of his beard to show through. You could figure it out, you know, Nick Frost, Nicholas Frost - you see?"
As well as Capaldi, Frost will be joined in the festive special - which airs on Christmas Day (25.12.14) - by regular castmates Capaldi and Jenna-Louise Coleman and guest stars Natalie Gumede, Nathan McMullen and Michael Troughton, the son of late actor Patrick Troughton, who played the Second Doctor.
Moffat was joined at the Q&A by Jenna-Louise Coleman, Samuel Anderson and Michelle Gomez, while Frank Skinner hosted.
The 'Doctor Who' Series 8 DVD will be available from November 24.

Kiss to headline Download Festival

Kiss will headline Download Festival 2015.
Gene Simmons and his bandmates Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer have been confirmed as the third act to headline the annual British rock festival on June 14, 2015, marking Kiss' second appearance at Download, having previously performed in 2008.
Following the announcement, bassist Gene said: "To all our fans - our intention is to get on that stage, blow the heavens to smithereens and take no prisoners."
Playing on the final night of the festival, Kiss will be supported by the legendary metal band Motley Crue.
It will be the final time Motley Crue perform at a UK festival, having announced that they will stop performing as a band in 2016.
Slipknot and Muse have been named as the other two headline acts for Download 2015, with shows on Friday June 12 and Saturday June 13 respectively.
In an official statement, Muse - who have never performed at Download before - said: "We're really looking forward to Download. We've never played the festival before so it's going to be really special."
Other acts on the bill include Judas Priest, Slash, Enter Shikari and Marilyn Manson.
Tickets for Download Festival 2015 go on sale on Thursday, November 20 at 9am.

Noel Gallagher didn’t work too hard on album

Noel Gallagher "didn't put that much effort" into his new album.
The 47-year-old rocker recently completed his album 'Chasing Yesterday' - which comes out next March - but claims he only put about "75 percent" of his total effort into the LP because he got distracted.
He said: "This time I did the record in London, I mean crikey it's difficult to focus and make it. I didn't put that much effort into the album, I can only give it 75 percent at one time.
"People say, 'I gave it 100 percent,', and I'm always only giving it 75 percent. People ask me, 'Why do you say that?' And I say I have to keep a bit for the after show. I can't be leaving it all on stage."
The former Oasis star also revealed he and his wife Sara MacDonald's sons Donovan, seven, and Sonny, four, prefer to listen to U2 rather than his.
Speaking on 'The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show' on Absolute Radio, the 'In the Heat of the Moment' singer explained: "Donovan and Sonny are massive U2 fans. It's a recent thing ... Donovan is a very good friend of Bono. It's a long story. But when that album came out with all the furore surrounding it, Donovan said, 'Lend me your iPod. Let me run my ears over this album.'
"And he's become a super-fan. Him and his mate Bono are having a bit of a loving across the ocean. It's fun to watch. I actually thought that I would be the one to turn him on to stuff like that but it's like he's bored of me now."
