Prince Charles deserves letter respect

Britain's Prince Charles should have his letters "respected", a court heard yesterday (24.11.14).
Government lawyers appeared at London's Supreme Court for the first in a two-day hearing in which they are challenging an appeal court decision that agreed the prince's notes to ministers should be made public.
James Eadie, QC, for the Attorney General told the panel of seven judges, led by Supreme Court president Lord Neuberger: "Everyone has the right to respect for their correspondence.
"Such respect is necessary not only as an aspect of privacy, but also to enable freedom of expression, which would inevitably be inhibited by the removal of the right to communicate privately.
"All the more so in the case of the Prince of Wales, whose freedom to express himself publicly is constrained by his role as heir to the throne."
The hearing is the latest round in a nine-year legal dispute which began when Guardian journalist Rob Evans applied to see a number of letters between Charles and various government departments between September 2004 and April 2005 amid controversy over claims the 66-year-old prince "meddled" in politics.
The High Court rejected the case but in March this year, Court of Appeal judges ruled unanimously that the then-Attorney General, Dominic Grieve - whose post was taken by Jeremy Wright in July - had "no good reason" for using his ministerial veto to override a tribunal that had previously decided the letters should be published.
The hearing continues today (25.11.14), when lawyers for the newspaper present their case.

Prince Charles takes photo with fans

Britain's Prince Charles shunned royal protocol and posed for a picture with well-wishers yesterday (24.11.14).
The 66-year-old prince was approached at the Stroud Festival of Manufacturing and Engineering at Stratford Park Leisure Centre by the venue's receptionist Emma Beard who called him 'Mr. Charles' and asked if he would pose for a picture with her and her friend Emma Goble.
Ms. Beard - who linked arms with the prince - said: "I asked him if it was allowed and whether I was allowed to touch him.
"He said it was fine but he asked if I really wanted a picture with him in it. I said that my mum is his biggest fan. He seemed very pleased.
"I'm over the moon that Prince Charles took the time to speak with me and it was an honour to meet the future king. He was very pleasant and extremely friendly."
And Emma - who also works at the leisure centre - was equally thrilled by the royal meeting.
She told MailOnline: "It was fantastic meeting him in the flesh. It was certainly an experience that I'll treasure and share with my children."
Elsewhere at the festival, which Charles officially opened, the prince was asked to judge the Dairy Crest's Frijj Challenge, which saw groups of children create new milkshake flavours within their schools before the winners were invited to the final at the show.
Charles tucked into drinks including a blueberry pie and clotted cream milkshake but eventually Maidenhill School's Black Forrest gateau milkshake was declared the winner.
Maidenhill pupils Katie Everitt, Imogen Louks, Kate Hurn, all 13, and Amie Radford, 12, were stunned by the result.
Imogen said: "When he tried our milkshake he said it was immense but we weren't sure whether to believe him.
"We just can't believe we won. All the other school's products were just so good."

Princess Mary had royal doubts?

Denmark's Princess Mary had second thoughts before marrying Prince Frederik, it has been claimed.
The Australian-born princess' relationship with the 46-year-old crown prince will be explored in new TV movie 'Mary: The Making Of A Princess', and according to reports, the "untold story" will tell how Mary almost turned her back on the royal and his crown.
Promotions for the film hint at "the moment they fell apart", but royal watchers will have to wait until it airs next year to find out what happened.
However, insiders told Australia's Woman's Day magazine that Mary - who was 28 when she met the prince in a Sydney bar during the 2000 Olympics - was reluctant to live a life dictated by royal protocol.
Monarchy expert Judy Wade said: "There's a high price to pay for being royal. The pressure under which they live is beyond belief - the scrutiny is a curse."
However, other insiders claimed 42-year-old Mary - who married the prince in May 2004 - struggled to trust Frederik because of his playboy past.
A source said: "It's usually the second son who can get away with acting the playboy, but Frederik just kept playing the field."
The couple have four children, Prince Christian, nine, Princess Isabella, seven, and three-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

Michael Buerk wants jungle exit

Michael Buerk is reportedly on the verge of quitting 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'
The 68-year-old star entered the jungle over a week ago, but after struggling to connect with his fellow campmates he's reported to have told producers he "deeply regrets" agreeing to the show.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Just as things were settling down, now Michael wants to go. Frantic efforts are being made to persuade him to stay.
"He adds a certain gravitas to the camp atmosphere. He would be a huge loss."
If he does quit the ITV programme, the broadcasting legend - who was enticed to take part by the promise of a £120,000 fee - will be the third star to walk after 'The Only Way is Essex ' star Gemma Collins and 'Coronation Street' actor Craig Charles.
The star has befriended rapper Tinchy Stryder, 26, on the programme, but was heard moaning in yesterday's episode (24.11.14) because he feels like younger campmates need to look after him.
He said: "There are two or potentially three weeks ahead banged up with people you don't know. My thoughts were, 'I'm regretting this, why on earth did I agree to do it?'
"I feel like the younger campers have to take care of me. This is their world in a sense and not mine. They have got to take care of me, I need help. I am not helping them, they are helping me."
The show's producers are now believed to be in emergency talks to arrange for extra stars to be flown out to Australia to replace the news anchor, with Olympic diver Tom Daley and cricketer Freddie Flintoff both being rumoured.

Dame Judi Dench ‘loved’ her revealing costumes

Dame Judi Dench "loved" showing off her breasts in 'Esio Trot'.
The 79-year-old actress plays Mrs. Silver in the BBC One adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic alongside Dustin Hoffman, and Dame Judi has admitted to "loving" her character's racy wardrobe.
She said: "I loved my costumes, they are very unlike me. I was offered one of these dresses to take with me but it hangs in my wardrobe and I think, 'Where am I ever going to wear that?' "
However, Dame Judi told The Sun newspaper she's been donning low cut dresses for over six decades.
She joked: "I have showed my cleavage for 60 years nearly! Is it very low? It is because a lot of the shots are from above. [Mrs. Silver] gets on with what she has got and makes the best of it."
Meanwhile her 77-year-old co-star Dustin - who plays Mr. Hoppy in 'Esio Trot' - revealed his love for the veteran actress.
He told the newspaper: "I said to Judi, 'If I'd met you then, I wouldn't have let you get away.' "
Dustin wasn't as keen on starring alongside the 60 tortoises on set, however.
He added: "I had four days when I just filmed with tortoises. You have never smelled anything like it."

Steve Backshall wanted Anton du Beke as Strictly Come Dancing partner

Steve Backshall would've chosen Anton du Beke as his 'Strictly Come Dancing' partner.
The 'Deadly 60' host was voted off the BBC One celebrity dance contest on Sunday (23.11.14) after he and partner Ola Jordan lost the dance off to 'Casualty' actress Sunetra Sarker and Brendan Cole and he's now revealed he would've liked to have danced with Anton - who was paired with Judy Murray earlier in the competition - if he'd been given the choice.
He said: "You don't get a choice. I probably would have chosen Anton because he was the only person I knew."
The 41-year-old presenter claims he won't miss his gruelling dance training and performing in front of the nation as he found it more terrifying than tracking deadly animals for his day job.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I don't think I will get withdrawal symptoms, my passion is wildlife, the outdoors and adventure.
"The dancing was more frightening if I'm honest. It was so out of my comfort zone. I'd only been doing it for two months and I'm still not very good at it.
"I'm looking forward to going back to river kayaking. I'll be out climbing, I'll be going bird watching because that's who I am and that's what I've always done."
Speaking about rumours Ola had bullied him during training, Steve added: "You go through so much together as a couple and I know it's only dancing and only an entertainment show, but you genuinely put in so much work and so many hours.
"You don't want people thinking that it was absolute hell - that would be awful."

Kendra Wilkinson brands Edwina Currie a ‘heartless ass politician’

Kendra Wilkinson has branded Edwina Currie a "heartless ass politician".
The Playboy model and the former Conservative MP - who are starring on this year's series of 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' - became embroiled in a heated debate after Kendra shared her philosophy on life with fellow contestant Michael Buerk.
The reality TV star told the 68-year-old journalist: "You should never live your life for other people, ever."
Overhearing her comments, Edwina, 68, interrupted, and insisted the 29-year-old mother-of-two should put her kids first.
She said: "Count me out. I don't agree with you.
"You can't say you should never ever live your life for other people ever.
"Sometimes you have to make decisions that benefit others but put you at a disadvantage. You're a mother. I'm sorry, sometimes you put other people first."
The blonde beauty quickly became upset and launched into a foul-mouthed rant.
She said: "You're not seeing the heart of what we're saying. Shut the f**k up and get the f**k out of our conversation because you're not seeing the heart of it."
"Heartless ass politician. Shut the f**k up. She can't even see that I'm trying to be a good person here."
While contestants Jake Quickenden and Nadia Forde tried to restore peace to the camp, Edwina continued to push Kendra's buttons, saying: "Kendra, you can't dominate me so don't try. I'm allowed to disagree with everybody here.
"We're all free people, we live in a free society and we're allowed to disagree."
Earlier in the day, Kendra had also suffered a meltdown after discovering Edwina has accidentally taken a pair of her clean socks.

Paris Hilton cuddles big cats

Paris Hilton cuddled lions and tigers at a sanctuary in Mexico.
The 33-year-old reality star couldn't resist sharing several videos and photographs from her memorable trip to the Black Jaguar & White Tiger Foundation - a charity which rescues cubs and mature tigers, jaguars and lions from "sad circumstances" and aims to give them the best lifestyle possible - while visiting Mexico.
Yesterday (24.11.14) the heiress posted 13 videos and 10 photos on her Instagram account, which showed her cuddling up to an array of adorable cats, including lion cubs and golden tigers.
She wrote: "Amazing day at the @BlackJaguarWhiteTiger Foundation. Such incredible work they are doing saving these beautiful creatures. (sic)"
Paris was also seemingly unfazed as one feisty cub began chewing on her trainers, even describing their toothy greetings as "love bites".
She told her 3.47 million Instagram followers: "This is awesome, I wish I could do this every day. (sic)"
She later added: "Had such an incredible time today at the @BlackJaguarWhiteTigerFoundation that I didn't want to leave. Miss them already (sic)"
In the past, the blonde beauty has expressed her desire to have a brood of animals, and is believed to own seven dogs and three cats.
She is rarely spotted without the latest addition to her menagerie, a white miniature Pomeranian named Prince Hilton The Pom.

Meryl Streep and Stevie Wonder receive presidential honours

Meryl Streep and Stevie Wonder received the Presidential Medal of Freedom yesterday (24.11.14).
The 'Into the Woods' actress and the 'Higher Ground' hitmaker were among 18 recipients of the US' highest civilian honour at a ceremony at the White House, where they were given the medals by President Barack Obama.
As he gave the 65-year-old actress - who is married to Don Gummer - her medal, the president gushed about how much of a fan he is of her work.
He said: "I love her. Her husband knows I love her. Michelle knows I love her. There's nothing that either of them can do about it. Meryl is truly one of America's leading ladies.
"She's done it all for her craft. She's sung ABBA [in 'Mamma Mia!']. That's something."
Stevie, 64, was introduced by his legal name Stevland Morris and the president recalled how his 1972 album 'Talking Book' was the first album [he] ever bought with [his] own money."
He added: "I was 10 years old, maybe 11 -- with my own cash. I didn't have a lot of it. And that thing got so worn out ... Young people, you won't remember this, but they had albums."
Though 19 people were supposed to take the honour, Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim was unable to make the ceremony so will collect his at next year's reception.
