Oprah Winfrey set for Terms of Endearment remake with Lee Daniels

Oprah Winfrey is in talks to star in a remake of Oscar-winning movie ‘Terms of Endearment’ with Lee Daniels at the helm.
The 62-year-old talk show legend is in talks for a role in the new version of the classic tear-jerker with the filmmaker who directed her in the 2013 biopic ‘The Butler’.
If she takes on the role, Winfrey will play the part of the difficult mother and widow Aurora Greenway, originally brought to life by Shirley MacLaine in 1983.
Based on Larry McMurtry’s novel of the same name, the drama was directed by James L. Brooks and also starred Deborah Winger as Aurora’s daughter Emma and Jeff Daniels as the teacher Flap Horton who Emma marries against her mother’s wishes.
Jack Nicholson also had a supporting role as Garrett Breedlove, a charming former astronaut who is dating Aurora.
The plot tracks the bond between mother and daughter and life’s trials and tribulations that test their friendship. When Emma’s marriage grows sour due to Flap’s cheating, Emma eventually splits from him, returning to her mother, only to discover she has terminal cancer.
Danny DeVito, and John Lithgow also appeared in the original, which earned 11 Academy Award nominations and won five, including Best Picture.
Winfrey – who won a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘The Butler’ – is busying herself with more movie roles and as well as having a voice part in animated Christian comedy movie ‘The Star’ she has also been cast in Ava DuVernay’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’, Disney’s adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 science-fiction novel of the same name.
