Nick Mason: Pink Floyd wouldn’t get through on The X Factor

Nick Mason doesn’t think Pink Floyd would have stood a chance on ‘The X Factor’.
The ‘Wish You Were Here’ drummer doubts the progressive rock group would even make it through the audition stage of the ITV talent show if they tried out for the programme because it’s all about entertainment rather than music.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "If any of us turned up to audition for ‘The X Factor’, I don’t think any of us would get on it."
The 72-year-old rocker also doesn’t feel Simon Cowell’s show will ever find proper talent like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones because they don’t write and sing their own songs.
He said: "I think there is a confusion with ‘The X Factor’. I think it hasn’t got that much to do with music. It’s great television entertainment and I think good luck to it.
"But I don’t it is where you are going to find a lot of new talent that will stick.
"Occasionally it happens, but I think everyone will admit that considering how long it has been running.
"The actual turn out of real talent is minimal and that is because it doesn’t feature the writing and virtually everyone who we would still love has original writing, and that is from The Beatles to Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones.
"It’s not about being able to sing other people’s songs."
