Neill Blomkamp admits to Elysium errors

Neill Blomkamp admits significant mistakes were made in making ‘Elysium’.

The 2013 sci-fi film was released amid huge anticipation but the 35-year-old director has confessed it fell well short of expectations.

Speaking specifically about the script, Blomkamp told Uproxx: "I feel like, ultimately, the story is not the right story.

"I feel like I executed all of the stuff that could be executed, like costume and set design and special effects very well. But, ultimately, it was all resting on a somewhat not totally formed skeletal system, so the script just wasn’t there; the story wasn’t fully there."

The confession comes shortly after Blomkamp said his new ‘Alien’ movie will feel like the "genetic sibling of Aliens".

His eagerly-awaited movie will disregard ‘Alien 3’ and ‘Alien: Resurrection’ and will carry on from the James Cameron-directed ‘Aliens’ in 1986.

Blomkamp said: "I want this film to feel like it’s literally the genetic sibling of Aliens. So it’s Alien, Aliens, and then this movie."

Added to this, Sigourney Weaver, who starred in the 1979 original ‘Alien’ movie, revealed she hopes the new film will complete the story of her on-screen character Ellen Ripley.

She explianed: "I would love to take Ripley out of orbiting around in space, and give a proper finish to her story."
