Sam Smith believes his new single 'Drowning Shadows' is the "saddest song" he's ever written.
The 23-year-old singer unveiled the ballad last night (02.11.15) and has admitted he's not expecting it to be a big hit because it's not particularly "radio friendly."
Speaking on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show ahead of the premiere, he said: "This is proper, really dark... It's so important for me to make soulful, true, artistic music and actually to make a point that I'm not going to do a repackage and put on there a massive, massive single that's hopefully going to boost album sales. 'Drowning Shadows' is the saddest song I have ever written and probably the least radio friendly song I have ever written."
The song features on Sam's repackaged album 'In The Lonely Hour: The Drowning Shadows Edition,' which he put together as a "thank you to fans" before he takes a short hiatus in order to refresh his mind and focus on his love life.
He explained: "I want to go back to how I used to live three years ago. I want to forget that I am well known and live a normal life with my friends and family."
'In The Lonely Hour: The Drowning Shadows Edition' is set for release this Friday (06.11.15).

Nick Jonas' new album is inspired by "challenging moments" in his life.
The 'Jealous' hitmaker - who split from his long-term girlfriend Olivia Culpo in June - has revealed his "crazy year" is influencing the record, which follows his eponymous second studio album.
He explained: "The biggest inspiration has just been living life, it's been a crazy year - really great moments and some challenging moments.
"My goal has always been to be as transparent as possible and just share my heart and my music and what I've been going through. So it's been about diving in and being as open and honest as possible."
While he may spill details of his love life on the LP, the 23-year-old singer - who is now rumoured to be seeing actress Kate Hudson - admitted he is a "pretty private" person when it comes to dating.
In an interview with Phoenix magazine, which is out now, he said: "I think the biggest thing that I've learnt, specifically about dating, is it's important you know how much you want the world to see. I'm a pretty private person, but obviously there are times when it becomes hard."
Elsewhere Nick talked about setting up a record label with close pal Demi Lovato.
He added: "It's very exciting. Basically my friend Demi [Lovato] and I were both at the point in our careers where we had established ourselves not only as artists but also as businessmen and women as well.
"We thought it would be great to collaborate with someone you feel safe with - and work with a friend to set up a new chapter. We went with our long-time manager Phil McIntyre and set up Safehouse Records. We built this thing that we're both so excited about"

The Stone Roses are set to return to the stage for two mammoth stadium gigs.
The 'I Wanna Be Adored' hitmakers - who haven't performed together since 2013 - will reunite for two concerts at Manchester's Etihad Stadium in June before they headline Scotland's T in the Park festival on Friday July 8, 2016.
Sharing the news on Twitter, they posted a photo of the tour poster, revealing they would be joined by special guests for the two shows at the home of football team Manchester City on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 June.
The group - which includes Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni - fuelled speculation of a reunion earlier today when a series of posters featuring their lemon logo mysteriously appeared in Manchester shops.
A shop keeper whose store featured the posters said he had been "sworn to secrecy about an announcement due in the next 24 hours."
Each poster contained 16 lemons, sparking rumours it was an announcement for next year.
A firm was also registered with all four members listed as staff and it is expected they will use this for their new ventures.
Tickets for the Manchester concerts will go on sale on Friday 6 November at 9.30am GMT and will be available from gigsandtours.com and ticketmaster.co.uk.

Coldplay have hinted they will release new music on December 4.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted posters appearing around London last week baring a multi-coloured symbol along with the caption "December 4" which were linked to the band as frontman Chris Martin wore clothing featuring a similar symbol during a recent performance.
And now the band have confirmed they are behind the mysterious campaign by posting the same logo on their social networks, which is believed to be the cover art for their seventh studio album 'A Head Full of Dreams'.
The band have not yet released many details about the collection, but performed new single 'Amazing Day' at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City in September, which producer Rik Simpson confirmed would feature on the record.
Announcing the album last December Chris hinted it would mark a form of "completion" for the band prompting rumours they will split following its release, 15 years after their debut album 'Parachutes'.
He said at the time: "We haven't told anyone this but we're making an album called 'A Head Full of Dreams'. We're right in the middle of it.
"It's our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it's like the last Harry Potter book or something.
"Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.
"I have to think of it as the final thing we're going. Otherwise we wouldn't put everything into it."

Skrillex has accused former mentor Deadmau5 of "bullying" him.
The EDM stars have become embroiled in a nasty Twitter spat after Deadmau5 panned the new single from Jack Ü - a production duo featuring Skrillex and Diplo.
Describing the single 'I Need Ü' which features Justin Bieber, Deadmau5 tweeted: "what the f**k is this s**t? (sic)".
But the 'Bangarang' hitmaker took offence to the comment and lashed out at him in a series of tweets, branding him the "worst label head ever".
He responded: "I'm forever grateful for the mau5's early support but the reality is sad. He's shriveling In his own pile of hatful
"I dont care bout ur personal career but the fact that u own ur own record label is sad. I feel sorry the artists you've signed.
"It's sad the people on your label have the worst label head ever aka you bro. (sic)"
However, Deadmau5 continued the argument by insisting it only takes "23 minutes" to make a radio hit with a "lil popstar".
He wrote: "tell you what. Lemme borrow the lil popstar for a week, mash together a radio hit in 23 minutes, and will be good label! Yay!
"In summary: 2 EDM sellouts b***hing about who's got a good label and or who's sad. Welcome to 2015. That's about all I'm getting outta this (sic)."
Continuing the argument, Skrillex added: "yes good night you sad old washed up a**hole.
"you can ignore bullying but at some point you have to stand up for yourself and your friends (sic)."

Wiley has been honoured with the inaugural Paving The Way award as a part of this year's MOBO Awards.
The Tower Hamlets-born grime rapper marked the honour by attending a special ceremony at his old school in Bow, east London where he was presented with a plaque.
Wiley said of winning: "I am honoured to be recognised in this way. MOBO have supported my music career from the very beginning and it's humbling to have this paving stone laid at one of the places which shaped me - Bow School. It's extra special as and my father also attended this school as a young lad. I hope it inspires all young people and encourage them to know that if I can do it, so can they!"
The commemorative stone, which contains lyrics from Wiley's song 'Bow E3', was installed to recognise his accomplishments within the world of music and to pave the way for future talent in the area.
The lyrics engraved read: "I'm so E3, The Whole of E3 Got So Much Talent I Hope You See".
The 36-year old star rose to fame with his work with grime crew Roll Deep, which also included world famous icons Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder.
And the founder of the MOBO Awards said she is "delighted" to introduce the new prize, which recognises rising stars.
Explaining it Kanya King, MBE CEO & founder of the MOBO Organisation said: "We are delighted to introduce the new 'Paving The Way' award, which celebrates the music pioneer's achievements and influences. Over the past 20 years, the MOBO Awards have been a celebration of emerging and established musical talent - who will now pave the way for the next generations. We are extremely proud to present Wiley with this award."
The 2015 MOBO Awards are set to take place on Wednesday November 4 at Leeds' First Direct Arena and will be broadcast live on ITV2 and later repeated in full on ITV.

The Stone Roses have prompted speculation they are getting back together.
The rockers last performed together in 2013 but have sparked rumours they are gearing up for something new after a series of posters featuring the band's lemon logo mysteriously appeared around Manchester, where they are from.
A shop keeper who's store features the posters told the Manchester Evening News newspaper he had been "sworn to secrecy about an announcement due in the next 24 hours."
The citrus fruit has appeared on their posters and album artwork previously and fans of the band have noticed the lemon posters come in sets of 16, leading some to speculate an announcement from them will come soon about news for 2016.
The band - featuring Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni - haven't released an album of original material since their 1994 record 'Second Coming' which followed 1989's eponymous release.
They originally split in 1996 but announced they were reforming in 2011 and then played a series of shows around the UK and Europe.
And a new firm with the four members as staff has been founded on Companies House suggesting they will be using it for their new ventures.
Gordon Smart, editor of The Scottish Sun newspaper, has also encouraged speculation hinting fans can expect an announcement this evening.
He tweeted: "Be poised tonight, but don't panic if delayed. It will be fairest of fair and all in favour of the real fan from what I hear #StoneRoses (sic)."
