Mum and Save Me lead RTS Award winners

‘Mum’ and ‘Save Me’ led the winners at the Royal Television Society Programme (RTS) Awards on Tuesday (19.03.19).
The BBC sitcom scooped two accolades at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, with Stefan Golaszewski landing the Writer – Comedy award, and Lesley Manville was awarded the Comedy Performance – Female prize, with the judges saying she had set a "new benchmark for excellence in this genre".
Meanwhile, the Sky Atlantic series took Drama Series and Writer – Drama for Lennie James, who also starred in the programme. Its "captivating performances" and "authenticity as a series" won it praise from the judges.
Meanwhile, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith jointly took home Comedy Performance – Male for their "astonishing and committed" turns in ‘Inside No. 9’, with the judges describing their performance as a "masterclass in comedy".
‘Killing Eve’ star Jodie Comer won Actor (Female) for her "already iconic" performance as assassin Villanelle, and Lucian Msamati’s "harrowing, unsentimental and nuanced" work on ‘Kiri’ saw his "extraordinarily brilliant performance" win Actor (Male).
‘Derry Girls’ took home the award for Scripted Comedy, the "bold and completely brilliant" topical show ‘The Last Leg’ won the Entertainment prize, and Big Narstie and Mo Gilligan scooped the Entertainment Performance award for ‘The Big Narstie Show’.
‘Informer’ Nabhaan Rizwan was described by the judges as an "exciting new talent" who is "clearly destined for an exceptional future".
‘The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganthan’ saw the comic take the Presenter award for bringing "genuine originality to every scene".
The BBC’s coverage of the wedding of Prince Harry to the then-Meghan Markle in May 2018 was recognised in the Live Event category, with the judges describing it as a "very British spectacle captured with great style and flair".
‘Hollyoaks’ beat off competition from ‘Casualty’ and ‘Coronation Street’ to take the prize for Soap and Continuing Drama, and Lorraine Kelly received the Outstanding Contribution to British Television honour.
