Cate Blanchett dedicates BAFTA to Philip Seymour Hoffman

Cate Blanchett dedicated her BAFTA award to Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The Australian actress took the Lead Actress trophy at tonight's (16.02.14) British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) ceremony in London for her role in Woody Allen's 'Blue Jasmine' and spoke in memory of Philip, who died earlier this month from an apparent overdose of heroin in New York.
Calling him a "monumental presence," she praised his "talent, generosity and unflinching quest for truth not just in art but in life."
She added: "You raised the bar continually. Phil, buddy, this is for you, you b*****d, I hope you're proud."
Cate had appeared alongside Philip in 1999s 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'.
Meanwhile, Barkhad Abdi was named Supporting Actor for his film debut in 'Captain Philips'- in which he plays a Somali pirate - beating Bradley Cooper, Daniel Bruhl, Matt Damon and Michael Fassbender to claim the prize.
Accepting the award, he thanked the film's director, Paul Greengrass "for believing in me before I believed in myself".
Barkhad - a former a limousine driver, shop worker and a DJ who moved from Somalia to the US when he was 14 - also paid tribute to other actors, adding: "We came from nothing and we have this."

Charlotte Gainsbourg says ‘Nymphomaniac’ isn’t sexist

Charlotte Gainsbourg doesn't think 'Nymphomaniac' is sexist.
The 42-year-old actress plays self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe in Volume 1 of the film which sees her recount her erotic past to the man who saves her from a beating, but it's not the first time she's taken on the role of a tortured woman with the direction of Lars von Trier and she claims its less sexist than portraying a doll-like female character.
She explained: "It's much more misogynistic to give a stupid part to a woman in films where they're just dolls. I find that much more insulting than having a torturous part."
Charlotte stars in the film alongside 'Lawless' actor Shia LaBeouf and 'Kill Bill' star Uma Thurman and has worked with director Lars on two of his other controversial films 'Antichrist' and 'Melancholia' and says the characters he creates are based on his own inner torture.
She explained: "Maybe there's a lot of torture, but that's who he is. He's portraying himself through women characters."
Even as a young girl, the Anglo-French daughter of English actress Jane Birkin and French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, she enjoyed filming violent scenes and says it's more important to telling a story than sex.
She told The Sunday Times newspaper's Culture magazine: "You forget everything. There's no conscience to it. There's something there that is stronger than what you're obsessing over.
"There was a lot of expectation around the sex [in Nymphomaniac], and I feel the film happens elsewhere."

Emma Watson sick from stagnant water

Emma Watson fell ill after Darren Aronofsy banned water bottles on the set of 'Noah'.
The filmmaker wanted to encourage a "pro-environment" atmosphere during filming to echo the messages of the movie, which led to the "delirious" actress drinking "stagnant" water in a bid to stay hydrated in the early morning heat.
She said: "Because of the storm, Douglas [Booth] and I ended up shooting most of our scenes between 4am and 7am - and at that time I never function well.
"Because the film has a pro-environment message, Darren didn't want anyone drinking from plastic water bottles on set either. So that made things slightly harder.
"Everything we used had to be recycled or recyclable. Having no water bottles on set at five in the morning - when you're exhausted and delirious - wasn't ideal.
"I was so tired one morning I picked up a mug from my trailer and drank some stagnant water that had been there for the duration - so three months. I was so ill."
And the 23-year-old actress was stunned when the director told her to "use" her illness in the scene.
She continued to Wonderland magazine: "I came in the next day and was like, 'Darren, I don't think I can do this, I'm really sick.' He was like, 'Use it for the scene.' And I turned round to the bus and was like, 'Is he joking? He is joking right?' and there was deadly silence."
Filming was often tough on the movie because of extreme weather conditions, and the heat even saw Ray Winstone come close to passing out on set.
Douglas said: "We started filming in the summer in New York. It was so hot that Ray Winstone at one point, who wore a beard and heavy make-up, nearly fell down a flight of stairs."
Emma added: "His make-up was literally melting off his face. Then we decided to shoot the soaking wet scenes. We literally went through all the seasons."

Tom Hiddleston backs Chiwetel Ejiofor

Tom Hiddleston is backing Chiwetel Ejiofor to triumph at the BAFTA Awards.
The 33-year-old actor starred alongside the '12 Years A Slave' star in a production of William Shakespeare's 'Othello' and thinks he will win Best Actor at the bash, which takes place at London's Royal Opera House tonight (16.02.14).
Quizzed on who he's rooting for, he said: "Chiwetel Ejiofor. I did 'Othello' with him and Ewan McGregor at the Donmar and it was the sort of performance that comes along every 25 years."
Hiddleston, who stared in 'Thor' as Loki, has spoken to McGregor - who was cast as Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 'Star Wars' prequel trilogy - about the new 'Star Wars' movie and although he would be keen to be cast in episode VII,he doesn't think he's what director J. J. Abrams is looking for.
Talking about the forthcoming film, he told Time Out magazine: "It'd be very flattering, of course. I did talk to Ewan about it once. When they asked if he wanted to be Obi Wan Kenobi, he said 'Are you joking? Of course!' But his experience didn't live up to the promise. Besides, I imagine they're looking for people who don't have an association elsewhere. The audience need to believe in the character, rather than saying, 'Oh look, Loki with a lightsaber!"

Gary Oldman advised by Eastwood

Gary Oldman says Clint Eastwood gave him his best filmmaking advice.
The 'RoboCop' star made his directorial debut in 1997 with gritty drama 'Nil by Mouth' and credits the screen legend - who is also a successful director - for helping him make the move behind the camera.
He said: "Clint Eastwood gave me the best advice when I directed, 'Get more sleep than your actors.' "
The 55-year-old star also says he was shocked when he met another huge screen star, Sir Michael Caine, because he didn't expect his reaction.
He told Us Weekly magazine: "When I first met Michael he asked for an autograph for his daughter."
In 1986, Gary won widespread critical acclaim for his portrayal of late Sex Pistols star Sid Vicious in biopic 'Sid and Nancy' but he insists he doesn't even remember the role which brought him to fame.
He said: "I don't' remember doing 'Sid and Nancy'. I've wiped that from the hard drive."

Matthew McConaughey ‘floored’ by dialogue

Matthew McConaughey was "floored" by his lines in 'Dallas Buyers Club'.
The actor lost 42lbs to play AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in the movie - for which he earned his first Best Actor Oscar nomination - and says when his character had to admit he was dying it had a profound effect on him.
He said: "My most surprising moment during filming was when Ron says, 'Look, I'm dying'. Saying that word, 'dying' floored me. To face that not as a concept, but as a reality."
The actor has come a long way in Hollywood, but he still has fond memories of working on his debut role in 'Dazed and Confused'.
He added to People magazine: "Summer of '92. I had the time of my life and got a $320 cheque every day, which was about six times more than I was making waiting tables at the Catfish Station [restaurant in Houston, Texas]."
Meanwhile, Jared Leto also stars in 'Dallas Buyers Club' as a transgender woman with AIDS and says the key to his role was understanding her humanity.
He said: "Finding her voice and walk helped, but it was really about finding a piece of her heart."

Danny McBride for ‘Knight Rider’ remake?

Danny McBride is in talks to star in a film adaptation of 'Knight Rider'. The 37-year-old actor will reportedly voice male lead Michael Knight's talking car, which is known as K.I.T.T or Knight Industries Two Thousand, according to schmoesknow.com. ...

Colin Farrell is an ‘extraordinary horseman’

Colin Farrell is an "extraordinary horseman".
The 37-year-old actor's equestrian skills made is easier to film scenes for 'A New York Winter's Tale' and although director Akiva Goldsman didn't realise this during casting he admits he was "very fortunate" since it decreased the possibility of having riding accidents on set.
Talking at the film's premiere at London's Kensington Odeon, director Goldsman told BANG Showbiz: "Colin and Russell [Crowe who plays Pearly Soames] are extraordinary horsemen, which turned out to be very fortunate because I didn't know that when I wrote the script.
"It's the kind of things like marching the horses backwards and forwards that, actually if you don't know how to ride a horse very well, you could end up with all kinds of broken things."
The supernatural drama features Athansor, a mysterious white horse who becomes Farrell's alter-ego's guardian angel.
The Hollywood hunk features alongside former 'Downton Abbey' actress Jessica Brown Findlay who felt "lucky" to have such a "fun" co-star.
She gushed: "It was so wonderful and I feel so lucky, he [Farrell] was great and supportive and fun, we just had so much fun and enjoyed the process and Akiva guided us the whole way."
Other stars at the premiere included lead characters Farrell and Findlay, former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Amy Childs and famed filmmaker J. J. Abrams.
