Karen O to perform ‘The Moon Song’ at Oscars


Karen O will perform ‘The Moon Song’ at this year’s Academy Awards.

The singer-songwriter will take on the Oscar-nominated song from Spike Jonze’s romantic drama ‘Her’ at the ceremony which will take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Other films nominated in the Best Original Song category include Pharrell Williams ‘Happy’ which featured in Pixar’s ‘Despicable Me’, ‘Let It Go’ from Disney’s ‘Frozen’ and ‘Ordinary Love’ from ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’.

Karen O is the lead singer of American indie rock band, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and she previously collaborated on a number of original songs for Jonze’s 2009 fantasy film, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.

Her film experience also extends to appearing on soundtracks for Tim Burton’s Gothic animation film ‘Frankenweenie’, ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ starring Daniel Craig and ‘I’m Not There’ a 2007 musical film which was inspired by the life of Bob Dylan.

Meanwhile, ‘Gravity’, ‘American Hustle’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ are front runners at the annual ceremony and have all been given nods in the category for Best Picture.
