Doug Liman doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer

Director Doug Liman tries to accomplish the impossible.
The 48-year-old filmmaker managed to get permission to have a military helicopter land in London's iconic Trafalgar Square for his latest film 'Edge of Tomorrow' and insists he only managed to pull that off because he was persistent and refused to take 'no' for an answer.
He told The Times 2 supplement: "It's easy to propose something outrageous in a pre-production meeting like, 'What about landing a military helicopter in Trafalgar Square?
"And the location manager will say, 'That's absolutely impossible. Two weeks before the scene they showed me the helicopter we were allowed to use and I immediately said 'That's not big enough'. And they said, 'It's all we could get, the RAF turned us down'.
"I said, 'Go back and try again'. And they did and eventually the RAF said yes."
Although film-making doesn't run smoothly Liman insists challenges and "chaos" help him better his work.
He added: "A little bit of chaos around me tends to bring out the best in my work."

Angelina Jolie’s horn troubles on Maleficent set

Angelina Jolie kept banging into things on the 'Maleficent' set.
The actress' elaborate costume as the wicked fairy in the 'Sleeping Beauty' spin-off took weeks to put together, with her pointy horns proving especially tricky since they kept falling off and were so heavy she initially crashed around the set headfirst.
The United Nations ambassador told Collider.com: "The creation of it took a little time, to figure out how to do the horns and how to get them on my head and how to get them to stay. We used my hair in braids to nail it down. It was a head piece, with the horns. It wasn't like a headband.
"We'd put my hair in these little balls, and then you'd put the head piece over and pull the braids through, and you'd use that to anchor it. We had different horns. At first, they were too heavy. And then, we got them softer.
"We had some that would snap off because I kept banging into things. It all slowly came together. We tried different things, and some of the things didn't work. We had feather hair, at one point. We went that crazy."
Angelina, 38, would consider reprising the role in a follow-up Disney film because she had such a great time embracing the multi-faceted villainous character.
Quizzed whether she'd like to return for a sequel, she replied: "Nobody has asked me about that. I don't know. I can't imagine. I'm not dead, at the end of it. She's still there. I don't know. I loved playing her."

Drew Barrymore: Family is where you feel safe

Drew Barrymore admits her friends became her family when she was growing up.
The 39-year-old actress - who is married to Will Kopelman with whom she has 20-month-old Olive and one-month-old baby Frankie - reunites with her '50 First Dates' co-star Adam Sandler in comedy 'Blended' which sees two families come together and the screen beauty insists family is about those who give you a "place in the world".
Talking to Variety.com, Barrymore said: "I appreciate that terms like 'modern family' and 'blended' have become familiar in the culture as ways to describe a pride in a family that doesn't look a certain way.
"I think that my family looks traditional from the outside, but I also know that I had kind of 'zero-point-zero' family growing up, and it was my friends that became my family and they gave me a sense of place in the world and they gave me tough love."
Barrymore believes families have "no rules" and accept you for who you are, being "supportive" and "honest".
She added: "I think there are no rules. I think of family as where you feel safe. It's where you feel supported, and it's where people are being deathly honest with you."

Angelina Jolie asked Brad Pitt before casting Vivienne in Maleficent

Angelina Jolie asked fiance Brad Pitt before she agreed to cast Vivienne in 'Maleficent'.
The 38-year-old actress who plays the titular villain in the re-imagining of Walt Disney's 1959 'Sleeping Beauty' worked opposite her adorable five-year-old daughter who portrays the young Princess Aurora and she admits it was a joint decision with her hunky partner before she agreed to let the tot have the part.
Talking to collider.com, she said: "We realised that there was no way that we were going to find a four or five-year-old that I could be as strong with, that would not see me as a monster. Suddenly, there was Vivi, running around looking like little Aurora and everybody thought, 'Oh, the answer is right there.' But then, I had to go home and talk to dad. It's our kid, so it's so sweet. The idea of it was so cute to us, as mummy and daddy. But then, there was the fact that she would be in a film. All of that took us a second."
Jolie admits it was hard at times enticing Vivienne to do the right things but little one had the support of her whole family - including siblings Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, seven, and Knox, five - while she was working on the film.
She added: "The first day was the day that she had to catch the butterfly, and she just really didn't feel like doing it. I actually was holding the pole with the ball on the end, and bouncing up and down and dancing, trying to make her laugh. And daddy was on the edge of the cliff that she had to jump off, making faces and doing all of these things. And her brothers and sisters were egging her on. She eventually did it, but she was taking her sweet time, and didn't want to do it twice, certainly."

Hugh Jackman: I went commando, it’s the Australian way

Hugh Jackman went commando in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' because it's the Australian way.
The 45-year-old actor - who was born in Sydney, New South Wales - reprises his role as Wolverine in the film where he is whisked into the past and when he emerges from under the sheets he refused to have underwear on covering his manhood since that's not the way an Aussie man would behave when he's got a stunning female laying next to him.
Speaking on US Chat show 'Kelly & Michael', he said: "It wasn't written.
"[The movie] has wolverine travelling back in time to prevent something cataclysmic happening in the future.
"I land back in 1973, this is what the script says, I wake up next to a girl who I don't remember and I get out of bed wearing boxer shorts. I was like I don't know about America but in Australia if you're next to a really good looking girl you're not getting out with boxer shorts on or briefs or anything. So yeah, I went commando."
Jackman - who is married to Deborra-Lee Furness - was asked to wear a bright green sock to cover his manhood when filming but he wasn't keen on the idea.
He added: "They bought a bright green sock for me to wear and I was like, this is kinda drawing more attention than less. They said, no, we need bright green like a green screen, so if you bend over or turn around, and we need to erase anything, we can. I said that's even weirder. They said please put it on, but the end of the first take I was like 'Ermm, it's gone, I dunno where it is.' "
