Eddie Redmayne had to take a break after filming 'The Theory of Everything'.
The 33-year-old actor - who stars as Stephen Hawking in the biographical drama - has revealed that his role as the legendary physicist was an "extraordinary challenge" that made him consider more deeply what role to take on next.
He said: "After finishing 'Theory' I wanted to, I suppose, just not act for a wee bit. I'm usually quite good at shaking things and jumping into the next one, but in this particular case I needed to take a wee bit of time.
"Also, because it was such an extraordinary challenge, you don't just want to go on to anything next, do you see what I mean? You want to take a moment to aspire for something as interesting."
The Hollywood star also had to perfect Stephen's physicality and revealed that he did that by regularly studing the effects of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by talking to sufferers and working with a dancer
He told Australia's Herald Sun newspaper: "A lot of that was about retraining muscles that are not used to working. By training over the months (prior to filming), it meant that when I was sustaining the physicality for long periods, it was something my body had become more used to.
"There were moments when an acupuncturist came to set when I tweaked something. But I was constantly reminded that at the end of the day, I could get out of the wheelchair; so many people I'd met who suffer from ALS couldn't. You were constantly aware of how lucky you were."

Sophie Turner has been cast in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'.
The 'Game of Thrones' star will be joined by 'Mud's Tye Sheridan and 'Aaliyah: Princess of R&B's Alexandra Shipp.
Sophie will take on the role of Jean Grey whilst Tye will play Cyclops and Alexandra will be Storm.
Revealing the news on Twitter, the director, Bryan Singer wrote: "Meet our new and brilliant young mutants: @Alexshipppp as #Storm @SophieT as #JeanGrey and @TyeSheridan as #Cyclops. #XmenApocalypse (sic)"
Meanwhile, Oscar Isaac - who plays Apocalypse in the film's latest instalment - recently revealed that his costume would be made through both CGI and practical effects.
He said: "It'll be a mix [of practical and digital]. I haven't had a script so I haven't had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it'll be a mixture of physical.
"I'm heading to do a head cast [for 'X-Men: Apocalypse'], which they do often. You spend 3-4 hours with them putting plaster all over your head and they get a sense of what your face is like and what shape your head is, so they can start figuring out the costume and the make up and all that stuff, which is pretty fun."
Stars already confirmed for the 'X-Men' film include Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult, who will all be reprising their roles.
The film is expected to be released in May 2016.

Jennifer Lopez held 'The Boy Next Door' auditions at her home.
The 45-year-old actress - who both stars in and produces the romantic thriller - has revealed that her co-star Ryan Guzman and the other auditionees travelled to her house for their chance to nab a part in the film.
Speaking on 'The Wendy Williams Show', she shared: "By the way, I auditioned a lot of guys at the house. We did the auditions [at my house] because of the fact we were producing it so we did it there and everybody came and the director came and the producers and we just had people come by and audition."
When asked if she worries that the failed auditionees now knowing where she lives, she added: "I'd like to think that the actors that came to the house are more professional.
"It wasn't just everyone off the street like, 'Line up at my house'. They were working actors already."
Meanwhile, her 27-year-old co-star, Ryan, previously revealed that she calmed his nerves ahead of their intimate scenes in the film.
He said previously: "I finally had to go to her and say, 'I'm really nervous about this, this is the first time I'm getting naked in front of a bunch of people I don't really know.' I have to wear this little sock on my, you know, and it was pretty emasculating.
"She pulled me off to the side and told me, 'It's a part of the film industry and we're just telling a story. We have to tell it to the best of our ability.' It had to have so much intensity and so much passion that the audience felt it. We wanted to make it memorable and we did that."

Taron Egerton took acting inspiration from Colin Firth.
The 25-year-old actor - who stars alongside Colin in 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' - has revealed that he took pointers from the 54-year-old star to help him portray Gary Unwin in the film.
When asked if he took shades from the pair's real-life relationship to use in the movie, Taron said: "I think, particularly, Colin fills the suit well - he fills the role of an English gentleman well and that's not necessarily my obvious casting so particularly, without giving too much away, in the latter parts of the film I've borrowed from Colin."
Taron - whose character is mentored by Colin's character in the film - also revealed that he is a huge fan of the 'Bridget Jones's Diary' star.
Speaking about Colin's previous work, he added to HeyUGuys.com: "'A Single Man' is especially a film I absolutely adore and I think Colin is awesome in it. There's a moment in that film where he finds out that his partner has died in a car crash and it's always stuck in my mind as just being a really sublime bit of performance.
"I've always always admired him. What I didn't know was much about him as a man, you know, behind the scenes but thankfully he's every bit as lovely as you could hope he would be."

Jamie Dornan thinks 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is "groundbreaking".
The 32-year-old actor - who stars as Christian Grey in the erotic film - has admitted that the film's particularly sexual nature is a new thing for mainstream cinema after watching a rough cut of it before the festive period.
He said: "This kind of sex - S&M - hasn't been depicted on the big screen ever. That, in itself, is groundbreaking."
Meanwhile, Jamie also revealed that he read all three books in preparation for the film and met with an expert.
He added: "We had an adviser in the field that we'd talk to, a guy on the kink scene. He's a guru, and a dominant.
"We had some good chats with him. And then there was the practical side of things. How do you use this? I've never held that! I learned all sorts of tricks that will support me through my life."
Despite being taught the "practical" side of things, Jamie joked that he struggled with mastering the technique of using a whip, comparing it to fly-fishing.
He shared: "There's probably a technique to using a whip.
"I wasn't talented at it. But I got there in the end. It's really like fly fishing."
To further prepare for his role, Jamie had to work out for three hours a day and drink countless protein shakes.
He told Variety magazine: "We had realistic expectations that I'm not going to look like Chris Hemsworth in four weeks, nor did we feel I needed to. Christian is not some monster. He's not a beast.
"I'd set my alarm at 4 a.m., and have [a protein shake] pre-made by my bed. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and drink a chocolate milkshake. My wife [Amelia] wasn't too pleased about that."

Anthony Mackie has teased that 'Captain America: Civil War' is "stupendous".
The 36-year-old actor - who is reprising his role as Sam Wilson (Falcon) in the upcoming movie - has branded the film "The Avengers 3.8".
He told Collider.com: "Let's just say it's a wing-ding-doozy of a time. The great thing about it is, after seeing The Avengers I joked and said Captain America 2 was Avengers 1.5.
"Now with Avengers 2 coming out... Captain America 3 is so far beyond Avengers 2.5 and onto the realm of Avengers 3.8. It's by far one of the most stupendous rides Marvel has put together."
'Captain America 3', which will continue the adventures of Steve Rogers (Captain America), played by Chris Evans, will also see Robert Downey Jr. join the cast as Tony Stark (Iron Man).
The sequel will also introduce a new Marvel superhero, Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman.
Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and expected to return as directors for the third instalment, which sees the collective governments of the world pass an act which is supposed to regulate all superhuman activity.
The new law causes The Avengers to split opinions and an epic battle ensues, with Iron Man and Captain America heading the opposing sides.
Production will begin later this year with the release date currently set for May 6, 2016.

Kaya Scodelario is "in early talks" to star in 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'.
The 22-year-old actress - who found fame on British television show, 'Skins' - is reportedly in discussions with the film's crew on the possibility of playing the female lead, Deadline.com reports.
If Kaya - who is currently filming 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' - joins the cast of the fifth instalment of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series, she will begin shooting in Australia soon.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp, who will be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, and Geoffrey Rush, who plays Barbossa, are the only two cast members from the previous films that are currently confirmed for the latest instalment.
However, Orlando Bloom - who starred as Will Turner in the first three instalments of the franchise - previously revealed he is in "talks" to return.
He said: "I'm not entirely sure that [I'll be back] just yet, but there are talks.
"Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.
"I'm of course Davey Jones now, so I'm down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I'm rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won't look anything like me."
Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg will direct the film, which is expected to be released in July 2017.
