Fifty Shades of Grey banned in Malaysia

'Fifty Shades of Grey' has been banned in Malaysia.
The erotic film will not show in cinemas across the Asian country after the Film Censorship Board deemed it "more like pornography than a movie".
The board's chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid said: "The board made a decision in view of the film containing scenes that are not of natural sexual content.
"The content is more sadistic, featuring scenes of a woman being tied to a bed and whipped."
It's not only Malaysian audiences that have been barred from watching the film, the lead actress Dakota Johnson - who plays Anastasia Steele - has revealed that whilst she is proud of the movie, she won't be letting her family or friends watch it.
She said: "My mom came up for a day [during filming]. She's proud of me.
"But I don't want my family to see [the movie] because it's inappropriate. Or my brothers' friends who I grew up with."
The novel - written by E. L. James - on which the film is based also received negative backlash from American libraries when it was released, with some refusing to hold any copies of the book.
Meanwhile, Jamie Dornan - who plays the film's protagonist, Christian Grey - recently defended the movie's sexual content.
He said: "I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissive than women, very powerful men.
"The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect. I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can't just be what happens in the Red Room, that's not a film. There's so much more going on than that."

Jack O’Connell: Being working-class drove me to act

Jack O'Connell thinks being "working-class" drove him to become an actor.
The 'Unbroken' star - who was directed by Angelina Jolie in the movie - has revealed that the "arduous adversities" he faced when he was younger gave him the "drive" to help him reach Hollywood.
He said: "Listen, I don't think this job is easy for anyone but I don't envy the people who it maybe has been easier for. I'm very grateful for all the arduous adversities that were in my path because that gives you a drive.
"I had a sense of belief and that had nothing to do with my social background. Maybe it had more to do with the naivety that was to do with me being a bit working-class."
The 24-year-old actor - who hails from Alvaston, Derby, England - will be seen next alongside Dame Judi Dench in 'Tulip Fever' before joining Julia Roberts and George Clooney to start filming 'Money Monster'.
Speaking of his first meeting with the 53-year-old Hollywood star, he said: "He charmed me. That's the only word. I was charmed immediately.
"He is charming and interested in you and I just want to take him to a Derby FC game now.
"I'll need to see if he can say 'ay up me duck' better than Angelina now."
Meanwhile, Jack is hoping to use his experiences to help young people from similar backgrounds try out acting.
He added to The Sun newspaper: "We are in positions of influence as actors, if we're renowned like that, and I'm definitely interested in setting up something that helps people like myself.
"It's therapeutic, acting - it was for me. It doesn't have to be a career."

Eddie Redmayne’s ‘osmosis’ acting

Eddie Redmayne learnt how to act through "osmosis".
The 'Theory of Everything' star has revealed that he has a bizarre method of trying to emulate the acting skills of those he appears alongside.
He said: "With acting, you learn, by observing and hopefully by osmosis, a bit about the craft and the actual work, but it's also about behaviour and how you treat people.
"The key to film acting, really, is that everything about the circumstance is entirely fake. You have thousands of people, money, cameras and technology, and you have to be at your most relaxed, and yet everything around is the least relaxing you could possibly imagine.
"Some actors will go stand in a corner to get themselves into the zone. Other actors will have devices or ways to force themselves into being relaxed."
The 33-year-old actor - who won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his portrayal as Stephen Hawking in the biographical drama - also admitted that he found it "frightening" moving from the stage to the screen.
He told Collider.com: "I found it genuinely frightening. I had done theatre for a few years. I got into acting through theatre.
"Suddenly, I got this extraordinary opportunity to be in a film ['The Good Shepherd'] that Robert DeNiro was directing.
"With the whole film world, suddenly you're flying across the Atlantic, you're staying at hotels in New York, you're being taken to work in big SUVs with blacked-out windows, and you arrive at a studio and there's Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon, so there are paparazzi outside. You get inside and there are these beautifully complicated sets that have been built, and everywhere you look, there's a famous person."

David Gandy turned down Fifty Shades of Grey

David Gandy turned down 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.
The 34-year-old model has revealed that he rejected an offer of starring as the lead in the erotic film - which is now played by Jamie Dornan - but admitted that despite rejecting a number of big movies, he wouldn't completely disregard acting in the future.
He said: "I was offered 'Fifty Shades of Grey', '300: Rise of an Empire', 'Hercules', which a lot of people probably would have taken as actors but I'm in the fortunate position where I like what I'm doing. I don't feel the need to act.
"I know if you're in a successful film, your status changes overnight. And I'm not saying I wouldn't, I've read many parts that I'd love to play, things that I've chosen, though, not things that've been sent.
"Critics and literary experts aren't fans of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' but I respect it for what it is. But was it right for me? No."
David has already had a taste of acting after previously appearing in Jennifer Lopez's 'First Love' music video but admitted that the weather conditions didn't make filming easy.
He added to Square Mile magazine: "It wasn't the greatest! Very difficult filming conditions. High winds, cars were being moved on set, sand pelting you.
"The crew were gaffer-taping their glasses to their face while we're just rolling around in T-shirt and a dress. It was freezing cold by the end of the night. But Jennifer was great; we had a laugh doing it. You just roll around and laugh - and shiver at the same time!"

American Sniper pulled from Baghdad cinema

'American Sniper' has been pulled from a Baghdad cinema.
The film - which stars Bradley Cooper as US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle - has been taken off from the listings at the only cinema in Iraq's capital city after the government and viewers said the film "insults" Iraqis.
The cinema's manager, Fares Hilal, was warned by a senior official at the Ministry of Culture that there would be fines and chance of closure if he continued to screen the film.
He told The Washington Post newspaper: "He told me the film insults Iraqis.
"If we show it, we will be criticised. But if we don't, we lose money. A lot of people wanted to see this film."
Meanwhile, Bradley previously admitted that he was "surprised" by the controversy surrounding the Clint Eastwood-directed film.
He said: "You never know when you make a movie if anybody's going to see it, so to have the audacity to think that it would cause any sort of effect at all would be pretty presumptuous.
"Any discussion that sheds light on the plight of the soldiers and the men and women in the armed services, for that discussion to occur is fantastic."

Michael Keaton: Birdman was ‘risky’

Michael Keaton thinks 'Birdman' was "risky".
The 63-year-old actor - who won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Riggan in the critically acclaimed film - has admitted that they took a huge gamble with the movie.
He said: "It was a risky gig, frankly, for all of us, but I never want to look back.
"To me, courage is the ultimate thing. You've gotta have guts. If you don't, you should just do something else."
The 'Batman Returns' star also admitted that he didn't have the "luxury" of having time to get into character but in the end didn't consider it necessary because the character was so "fundamental".
He said: "Honestly, I didn't really have that luxury, and it didn't really require it. It's so fundamental and human.
"Did it help that I'm an actor? I suppose it helped, but so did Alejandro [González Iñárritu; the director] talking about the ego, and whether he was really an artist.
"I didn't really have to think about it. It was really a day-to-day situation."
Michael - who is also nominated for an Oscar for his part in the comedy film - flew back home especially to meet with Alejandro to discuss the movie, without knowing much about the part.
He told Collider.com: "I was doing a movie and I got a call from my agent. She explained what it was and said, 'They don't want to tell you exactly what it is.' So, I flew back for a day to meet Alejandro because any actor with a pulse wants to work with someone like him. I'd seen his movies and am an enormous fan.
"I just flew back to have this conversation, but he really couldn't explain what the movie was that he wanted to make. He really was trying to explain it...
"It would have been so hard for me to say no. I was going to be in it, regardless of anything he said."
