Chiwetel Ejiofor will reportedly star as Baron Mordo in Marvel's 'Doctor Strange'.
The 37-year-old actor will appear opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the Scott Derrickson-directed movie, which is due out in November 2016.
Although the character is typically portrayed as a villain in Marvel comic books, Deadline has suggested the Disney-owned company will downplay Mordo's evil ways when he reaches the big screen.
Meanwhile, Chiwetel's new on-screen co-star Benedict insisted earlier this year that he doesn't think it's a risk to take on the lead role in a Marvel movie.
The 38-year-old actor is confident the film will be a success, observing that Marvel has an unrivaled ability to bring lesser-known characters to life.
He shared: "I don't think it's a risk because of Marvel.
"Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods."
Benedict fought off competition from Ethan Hawke and others to claim the coveted role.
Ethan said he'd come "as close as anybody could" to playing Doctor Strange.
He also reflected: "We're living in the age of Marvel. Marvel has a tremendous amount of power over what everybody's going to see. They're making movies at a high rate and they're making them successfully."

Sacha Baron Cohen's new comedy 'Grimsby' reportedly features a scene in which Britain's Queen Elizabeth gets HIV.
The 89-year-old monarch develops the virus in the movie - which is due out in March 2016 - when she is splattered with blood by a child who is carrying HIV.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Nothing should surprise you with Sacha's comedy.
"But the scene with the Queen is bleak. It's more gruesome than anything he has done before.
"No decision has been made on whether it will make the final cut, but if it does it will inevitably cause a lot of outrage."
This comes shortly after it was revealed Sacha, 43, has managed to anger residents of Grimsby because of his unflattering portrayal of the sea port.
Nev Carrick, landlord of the Corporation Arms, said: "For a successful comedian I would've thought he'd have come up with a more original joke than, 'It's grim in Grimsby'. But by the looks of it he's made a whole film out of it.
"A lot of people in this town are unhappy about it, especially his fat, tattooed women characters. I don't know where he's seen them around here, I certainly haven't."

Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are "cinema dictionaries".
Rebecca Ferguson - who stars alongside Tom in the much-anticipated 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' - has revealed that the Hollywood star and Christopher, the movie's director, are both avid film buffs.
She shared: "Tom and Chris are walking cinema dictionaries. I'd have to go home and look up all the references they'd made."
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old actress revealed she underwent a rigorous fitness regime to prepare herself for the role of Ilsa, a mysterious assassin in the new 'Mission Impossible' movie.
She told the Daily Mail newspaper: "They checked my physique. They had to know whether I could run, because for the stunt work they have to know that you are capable of doing it without tearing muscle tissue.
"It was six hours a day, six times a week - for six weeks. I forced myself to go to the gym. It was my mission."
This comes shortly after Simon Pegg revealed he felt "obliged" to do his own stunts opposite Tom Cruise.
The actor - who has appeared alongside Tom in the 'Mission: Impossible' movie franchise since 2006 - has admitted he felt compelled to ditch the stuntman for the action scenes.
Simon explained: "Tom never asks but he has a degree of professionalism you feel obliged to match, because if you didn't you'd let the side down.
"He did all the driving and I did all the sitting in the passenger seat screaming. It was huge fun."

Sir Roger Moore is a fan of the phrase "Bond crumpet".
The 87-year-old actor - who starred as British secret agent James Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985 - has revealed he'd like to rename Bond girls, even though he risks incurring the wrath of social media users.
He said: "Bond female doesn't have the same ring to it, does it? Bond lady, perhaps? Or what about ... Bond crumpet?!
"Oh, Bond crumpet will get an angry brigade going on Twitter!"
The London-born actor thinks political correctness has gotten out of hand and is comfortable calling Bond girls - who recently include the likes of Eva Green and Gemma Arterton - "Bond crumpet".
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: "When I was brought up, we were always boys and girls, and men and women. You would stand up for a lady when she came into a room - but you get called a sexist pig if you show manners like that now.
"The problem is that leading ladies get called all kinds of things today. But a Bond girl was always a Bond girl. The rest - the Bond female, Bond lady - doesn't sound right. But I do like Bond crumpet!"

Eloise Mumford will embrace the next director of the 'Fifty Shades' franchise "with open arms".
The 28-year-old actress - who starred as Anastasia Steele's roommate, Kate Kavanagh, in the movie released earlier this year - was sad to see Sam Taylor-Johnson walk away from the role of director, but she's still eagerly looking forward to the next movie.
Asked whether she suspected Sam would quit the franchise, Eloise exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "We didn't even know when we were shooting if we would make the second or third movie.
"There was always the anticipation of it, but it depended on the film coming out and doing incredibly well, which it did. So, while we were filming, we were all just concentrating on making the best movie that we possibly could.
"We really succeeded at that, I think, in large part to Sam Taylor-Johnson and what an incredible director she is."
Despite regretting Sam's decision to walk away, Eloise is looking forward to working with a new director.
She shared: "I loved working with her so much, I honestly can't say enough things about working with her. It'll be really ... I don't know if sad is the right word, but we will miss her very much on set, because she really formed the film version of this with such grace that I'm very curious to see who the next director is.
"We will embrace him or her with open arms, but it was a really great experience getting to work with Sam."
'Fifty Shades of Grey' is available on Digital HD now and Blu-ray, DVD on June 22, 2015 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Chris Pratt found acting with dinosaurs to be "a breeze".
The 35-year-old Hollywood hunk - who stars alongside Bryce Dallas Howard in the much-anticipated new sci-fi movie 'Jurassic World' - has revealed he found it easy starring alongside invisible dinosaurs after appearing in the 2014 hit 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.
Chris - who stars as Velociraptor expert Owen Grady - said: "To be honest, after Groot and Rocket on 'Guardians Of The Galaxy', a few dinosaurs are a breeze. What was really fun was getting to approach that character from a real point of view - who would get that job in reality?
"If dinosaurs have been around for 20 years and there's a branch of the park that's all about whether we can get raptors to behave as if they're at Sea World - which will end well, of course - how would someone approach that?"
Chris also revealed the lengths he went to in order to prepare for his on-screen role.
He told ShortList magazine: "I got to talk to some awesome people who train tigers and grizzly bears, parrots and K9 dogs, in all different applications, from entertainment to war.
"The techniques you see me use are actually real techniques people use on bears and such, which was pretty cool. And, of course, there was a lot of dancing around looking at nothing - a tennis ball or a light, or people in grey suits with raptor heads on - and trying to make it believable. But, as I say, I'm kind of used to it.
"And I hate to break it to you, but none of it is real. So going the extra mile to imagining invisible ancient reptiles really isn't a big leap."

Disney could reportedly lose as much as $140 million on 'Tomorrowland'.
The Brad Bird-directed sci-fi movie - which features George Clooney - was released last month, but has fallen dramatically short of the studio's expectations, proving to be a real flop at the box office.
Thus far, the movie has taken $170 million worldwide, despite costing $180 million to make, with a further $150 million spent on marketing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This comes shortly after Brad Bird admitted said he was determined his movie would send over a positive message to cinemagoers.
He explained: "Disney's message is always about trying to make the world a better place and that's really what we wanted to do with this movie - Walt Disney had a vision of the future where science wasn't the enemy.
"I think that Walt lived in a time which was just as turbulent as the time we live in now, if not more so."
The director also insisted he didn't pay much attention to other sci-fi movies and their themes.
He shared: "Making this movie was about what we could do as opposed to what everybody else could do."
