Woody Allen: My films aren’t about me

Woody Allen films aren't all about him.
The 'Irrational Man' director - whose latest offering follows a tormented philosophy professor called Abe (Joaquin Phoenix) who considers murdering a corrupt judge to find meaning in his life - says fans have always assumed he puts elements of his life into his characters but that's simply never been true.
He said: "This is the story of my life. I spend my whole life saying 'This is not me', but audiences don't like to hear it. When I made Annie Hall, people thought it was an autobiographical film. And I'd say, 'Well look it's not. I made it up.' But they don't want to know that. There's something comforting with people - in thinking that the films are giving them the real story."
Though Woody, 29, battled in court in real life for the custody of his kids, he says he came up with the idea for the film when a friend struggled to sue a dodgy building contractor.
However he admitted it was "unfair and frustrating, but so feeble compared to losing your children."
He told The Daily Telegraph: "If a judge condemns someone to the electric chair, or sends them to jail, there's nothing you can do. But if it's family related and you could help, you know, that seemed to me to be they very best thing."

Diablo Cody: I’m ‘obsessed’ with Rick Springfield

Diablo Cody is "obsessed" with Rick Springfield.
The 'Ricki and the Flash' screenwriter has admitted she was thrilled to work with the rock star as she thinks he has the "charisma" movie stars lack.
She said: "I'm just obsessed with Rick Springfield! I think everybody was by the time we wrapped. There's just something about rock stars, they're way cooler than movie people to me.
"He just exudes the rock-star charisma and I want to be his friend so badly. The guy can really shred!"
And Diablo wanted her movie to also bring something new to cinema, insisting romance between older characters is less prevalent in mainstream movies.
She added to The Guardian newspaper: "I thought to myself, who am I not seeing represented? Being a writer who lives off her ideas, and whose ideas are always dwindling, I try to think what hasn't been done lately.
"I thought I haven't really seen a lot of romantic stuff with older performers, older people. So now, thanks to me, you can get to see Meryl Streep make out with Rick Springfield! That is my gift to the world!"

Owen Wilson’s hope for Zoolander 2

Owen Wilson thinks 'Zoolander 2' has a "chance" of being funny.
The 46-year-old actor has already completed filming for the highly-anticipated sequel to him and Ben Stiller's 2001 offering and hopes it will live up to people's expectations.
He said: "Beginning with the way they announced 'Zoolander 2', by having Ben and I walk out in Paris, in character.
"We weren't quite sure what to expect after 14 years, but we got a pretty rousing reception there that made us wish the movie was coming out that weekend.
"Then we went to Rome and filmed it, and Ben's editing it now. I think it has a chance to be funny and good."
Owen has travelled across the world for his films, most recently to Thailand to film 'No Escape' and he admits he enjoyed working and interacting with the Thai crew and the country's people.
He told The Guardian newspaper: "In real life it was very nice. The Thai people - to make a generalisation, this region is called The Land of Smiles - are very gentle. The Thai crew were just hospitable and great. For the story, though, it's kind of a non-specific country."

Margot Robbie’s hairy offer

Margot Robbie offered to shave her head for 'Z for Zachariah'.
The Australian actress, who stars in the new sci-fi drama alongside Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor, admits she was eager to distance herself from her sexy image as much as possible.
The 25-year-old beauty explained: "I had just finished 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and it was great to do something different. The director asked if I'd dye my hair, and I said, 'I'll shave it off. Whatever you want!' I was keen on not being typecast."
Margot also insists she is a tomboy at heart.
She said: "I grew up on a farm in Australia, so I knew how to milk cows and ride tractors."
The trio formed a close bond while filming the movie, and the actress says it helped them really feel like they were the only people left on the planet.
She said: "Filming in New Zealand was extremely remote. We didn't have phone reception, so it did really feel like we were living in a post apocalyptic world.
"On Friday nights, we filled a bathtub with beers. We just hung out."
But Margot missed Frosty, the dog in the film, the most after they wrapped up shooting.
She added to Us Weekly magazine: "We lived together. It was weird to leave set without him, but I liked not having dog food in my pockets."

Zac Efron misses ‘musical roots’

Zac Efron misses his "musical roots".
The 27-year-old actor shot to fame in Disney's 2006 TV movie 'High School Musical' and admitted he misses getting to sing and dance in his films as it was always fun getting to perform with so many people.
He confessed: "I really miss my musical roots. Those films were such a beautiful part of my life, and they were my path into acting and performing. Shooting scenes where you have hundreds of people dancing and getting into it was so much fun."
However, the 'We Are Your Friends' star has been appearing in a more adult range of movies recently including raunchy comedy 'Bad Neighbours', which he is set to film a sequel for.
He said: "I probably had more fun working on the original 'Bad Neighbours' than I've ever had on any movie I've made. It's hard to pull off that kind of raunchy comedy and not go too over the top. It was the kind of role that allowed me to get back into comedy after trying to prove myself in a lot of dramas and it was while working on 'Bad Neighbours' that I realised just how much I really loved comedy. I can't wait to see how the new film turns out."
And Zac will also play a starring role in the new 'Baywatch' movie alongside Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, which he promised will be "very different from the original".
He added to HELLO! magazine: "I'm very excited. I'm planning to train pretty hard and get ready to outswim The Rock. From what I understand, the movie's going to be very different from the original 'Baywatch' series. I know Dwayne has big plans for it and wants to make it into something really special."

Owen Wilson: Nothing compares to Pierce Brosnan’s following

Owen Wilson was distracted by "James Bond walking around" on the set of 'No Escape' with Pierce Brosnan.
The 46-year-old actor admitted that when the former Bond star was spotted by fans in Thailand "nothing compared" to the level of attention he received, even though Owen has "a little bit of a Thai following" himself.
Asked if anyone knows who he is in the country, he said: "Yeah, I did have a little bit of a Thai following, but when Pierce showed up, it was nothing compared to that. You can't help but think: 'Here's James Bond walking around.'"
The new action-thriller movie is about a businessman [Owen] who is trapped in a war zone with his family and during the filming of dangerous scenes, he felt like Thailand handled things "a little be more loosely" than during his films in the US.
He told the Guardian newspaper: "Well, we had an American assistant director and a Thai one, who would address the Thai crew. The American AD would explain the stunt that was occurring, talk for five minutes, then hand over to his Thai counterpart. He'd literally say a couple of words and he was done.
"You'd think 'There's not way he said all that information ...' So there is that feeling in Thailand that things are a little bit more loose."

Anne Hathaway to produce and star in The Shower

Anne Hathaway is to star in and produce new sci-fi comedy 'The Shower'.
The 32-year-old actress, who last year appeared in the Christopher Nolan-directed 'Interstellar', is to to play a crucial creative role in the female-led comedy, which has been written and will be produced by Jac Schaeffer.
She said: "[Schaeffer] has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centred around funny, fully dimensional female characters.
"I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen."
The movie's plot sees men turned into bloodthirsty aliens following a series of meteor showers, which means women have to try to save the world.
Starring alongside Anne in the movie is her husband husband Adam Shulman, as well as Andrew Lauren and DJ Gugenheim.
'The Shower' featured on last year's black list, which recognises the best movies that are yet to be turned into screenplays.
Before 'The Shower' hits cinema screens, the award-winning actress can be seen alongside Robert De Niro in new comedy movie 'The Intern', which opens next month.

Andrew Garfield ‘excited’ to see his Spider-Man replacement

Andrew Garfield is "really excited" Tom Holland has replaced him as Spider-Man.
The 32-year-old actor starred in two 'Spider-Man' movies, in 2012 and 2014 before being axed earlier this year - but Andrew has insisted he harbours no bitterness and is looking forward to watching Tom, 19, in action.
He told Total Film magazine: "To be honest, I am really excited that he is going is to be playing the part.
"I think he's perfect for it. I'm really happy and glad - and I really mean that - because I get to be a fan again.
"I can buy popcorn and watch, and that makes me really, really happy."
This comes shortly after Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, admitted the rebooted 'Spider-Man' will be inspired by the work of director John Hughes, who helmed 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'.
Looking forward to the new movie, Kevin said: "It's the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interesting.
"Just as we hadn't seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we haven't seen a John Hughes movie in a long time.
"Not that we can make a John Hughes movie - only John Hughes could - but we're inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven't done before excites us."
