Cate Blanchett: There are plenty of great roles for women

Cate Blanchett thinks there's a "swathe of great roles for women" in cinema.
The 46-year-old actress - who is currently starring alongside Rooney Mara in the romantic period drama 'Carol' - has dismissed claims suggesting there are only a handful of interesting roles written for female stars.
She said: "Every time there are interesting complex roles played by actresses on screen someone asks, 'does this mean there's going to be more of the same?'
"We seem to every year find ourselves in the same conversation, that somehow it's remarkable.
"I think there's a swathe of great roles for women and swathe of wonderful female performers. I think it's just time to get on with it."
What's more, Cate said her new movie's exploration of a same-sex relationship may have been considered "more political" had it been made a few years earlier.
The Oscar-winning star reflected: "I think the landscape around the conversation around same-sex relationships has advanced in a lot of countries.
"The universality of the love story comes to the fore, rather than any sort of political agenda."

Jessica Chastain ‘proud’ of Jennifer Lawrence for speaking up

Jessica Chastain is "proud" of Jennifer Lawrence for speaking out on Hollywood's gender pay gap.
The 38-year-old actress has heaped praise on the Oscar-winning star after she recently bemoaned the pay gap between male and female performers.
She said: "I'm proud of her. Sometimes when you're doing well, you're afraid to say something's wrong because then there's going to be a bunch of people out there going 'OK, well, you're a big old movie star.' But it doesn't matter."
Jessica said it's "completely unfair" that actors are paid more than their female counterparts for doing the same job in the same movie.
The 'Martian' star told Variety: "There's no excuse. There's no reason why she should be doing a film with other actors and get paid less than her male co-stars. It's completely unfair. It's not right. It's been happening for years and years and years. I think it's brave to talk about it. I think everyone should talk about it."
Earlier this week, Jennifer admitted to being surprised by the pay gap between herself and her male co-stars in 'American Hustle', Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jeremy Renner.
She explained: "When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with d**ks, I didn't get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early.
"I didn't want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don't need. (I told you it wasn't relatable, don't hate me)."

Hugh Jackman worries people might think he needs dental work

Hugh Jackman worries people will think he needs serious dental work after watching 'Pan'.
The 46-year-old actor - who stars as Blackbeard, Peter Pan's nemesis, in the prequel to JM Barrie's classic novel - isn't really bothered about looking hideous as long he pulls off his character, but thinks people will start commenting on his bad teeth from the film.
Asked if it's liberating to play someone that will give children nightmares, he said: "I'm glad you mentioned my teeth. I think somebody is going to think I'm in need of great dental work. I don't really have any attachment, I just want to look more like the character."
The 'Wolverine' star also admitted he has no idea what his real hairstyle is like because the movies he has been in have dictated the cut he gets.
He told ShortList magazine: "I don't know what my real haircut [would look like] if I had one. I haven't had one in 20 years that was actually my choice. And probably my body as well , you know because I've been in 'Wolverine' for 17 or 18 years, so all the training isn't really me either."

Jennifer Lawrence in talks to appear in Darren Aronofsky’s new movie

Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star in Darren Aronofsky's next film.
The Oscar-winning actress is keen to collaborate with the 'Black Swan' director on the untitled independent movie, with filming set to start in the spring, according to Variety.
Jennifer, 25, is currently shooting 'Passengers' and with her involvement with the 'Hunger Games' and 'X-Men' franchises having finished, she'll have more time to appear in new projects in 2016, like Aronofsky's next movie.
News of Jennifer's potential casting comes shortly after she hit out at the gender pay gap in Hollywood.
The actress admitted she was surprised to learn that she and her 'American Hustle' co-star Amy Adams were paid considerably less for their role in the movie than Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jeremy Renner.

Colin Farrell: Online dating is narcissistic

Colin Farrell thinks online dating is "narcissistic".
The 39-year-old actor stars alongside Rachel Weisz in the new sci-fi movie 'The Lobster', in which finding love is a matter of life and death, and the Hollywood star has admitted to feeling bemused by the growing obsession with online dating.
Colin said: "The idea of choosing someone based on them being the exact same as you ... is a rather narcissistic approach to things. And yet that's what a lot of the internet dating is, 'These are my interests. Do you share the same interests? Well, let's go and share our interests together.'
"But if you meet someone who has different interests, they can open your eyes to something different and something you've not experienced before."
The heartthrob said he's never gone on an online date and suspects people would be inclined to judge him based on his fame.
He told the Guardian newspaper: "I haven't had a date and I don't know about that whole thing. But for sure, anyone I meet will have an idea... not anyone, but some people have an idea who I am and what I'm about, so it's harder to have a blank canvas at the start of things.
"But that's okay, you know, it's good to learn to disappoint expectations."

Idris Elba ‘would be a great Bond baddie’

Idris Elba thinks he'd make an excellent Bond baddie.
The 43-year-old actor has been heavily linked to the role of the British secret agent, but his friend John Newman has revealed Idris has expressed an interest in another role in the Bond franchise.
John - who's got Idris to read the opening monologue on his new album 'Revolve' - shared: "There was a conversation where he thought he'd be a better baddie and I was like, 'You've got a good point. You'd be an amazing baddie'."
Despite this, John also said his friend would make a suitable James Bond.
He told Digital Spy: "It'd be a nice change to have a guy that's very different to James Bond. It's not due to his race or anything like that, because that's the big thing everyone's basing it round. He fits into that role very, very well."
Earlier this month, Idris said he doesn't "give a f**k" if a black actor is cast as the new Bond.
He said: "The right person should do the job, and I don't give a f*** what colour their skin is. It shouldn't be an issue."

Danny Boyle reveals Trainspotting nerves

The cast of 'Trainspotting' were "nervous" about making a sequel.
Danny Boyle directed the original movie in 1996 and has returned for the much-discussed sequel - but he's revealed the cast of the film were uncertain about whether to reprise their roles.
The director - who's once again working with Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, and Ewen Bremner on the new movie - said: "The actors were very fearful about a sequel as well!
"Actors are a great barometer of whether something is worthwhile or not. Their bulls**t filter is very, very strong, because they're going to be the ones out there trying to make a script look truthful and believable.
"When it comes to doing another 'Trainspotting', they were very nervous, because for all of them, it's a large part of their reputation and they feel very protective towards their character."
Meanwhile, Danny also promised the sequel will do justice to the original movie.
Reflecting on the script of the new movie, Danny told Vulture: "It had this feeling about it, where it honours the original and it won't disappoint people.
"It's not the same film, but it can't be, and we wouldn't want it to be. And the actors all responded to it as I thought they would."

Play as Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: The Game

Players will be able to play as Jason Vorhees in 'Friday the 13th: The Game'.
The horror title's Kickstarter page has been launched and reveals that it will be a third-person, asymmetrical multi-player survival horror with one player controlling the hockey mask-wearing psychopath and seven others taking charge of camp counsellors trying to escape from Camp Crystal Lake and avoid being murdered.
Developers Gun Media obtained the license to the 'Friday the 13th' movie franchise from director Sean S. Cunningham - who helmed the first instalment and owns the license - and have promised gamers the chance to "brutally kill camp counsellors in new and inventive ways as well as some that will seem all too familiar".
Gun Media's Ronnie Hobbs - who originally began work on a game called 'Summer Camp' with Wes Keltner which was inspired by the 'Friday the 13th' movies before getting the OK to pixelate Jason - says the slasher genre-inspired kills and "killer versus victim" gameplay will be unique and will keep gamers coming back to the title.
He said: "Going too over-the-top in the gore department isn't really a concern to us right now. In fact, the slasher genre is more about creative kills and practical effects than all-out gore ... Expect to us to be very faithful to the slasher genre ... Actually what intrigues me is the 'killer versus victim' dynamic. This is a staple of slasher films and something we've yet to see fully realised in the video game industry."
Hobbs and Keltner have hired horror special effects legend Tom Savini - who worked on the original 1980 'Friday the 13th' film and 1984's 'Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter' - to bring Jason to life and come up with imaginative ways to kill the counsellors.
Savini said: "My input is to creatively kill people; creatively kill teenagers with household implements. It's a living but somebody has to do it! I've also got to come up with a new look for Jason. That's exciting because I haven't had to think about that for 35 years."
'Friday the 13th: The Game' is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and Gun Media is seeking $700,000 on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/613356213/friday-the-13th-the-game/description) to complete it.
So far $250,788 has been pledged and there are numerous different rewards on offer for backers depending on how much they donate.
For $10,000 (£6,514) you get to be one of the selectable camp counsellors in the game.
