Just as the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel is hitting cinemas, the Lucasfilm President has revealed the next instalment starts shooting in January and the acclaimed cast of young and old stars such as John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Anthony Daniels will be back.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the European premiere of 'Star Wars: The Force' Awakens in London's Leicester Square on Wednesday night (16.12.15), she said: "There will be a handful of new cast members in 'Episode VIII' but also all the cast members you see here tonight will be in it as well. We're excited to get back together. We start shooting 'Episode VIII' in January, we've been prepping the movie for the last year and (writer-and-director) Rian Johnson has been doing an amazing job."
The 62-year-old producer has been running on adrenaline promoting the movie across the world and now she has seen the fantastic reviews for the film she is ready to breathe a "sigh of relief" in the knowledge that she, the cast, crew and director J.J. Abrams have realised their dream of bringing 'Star Wars' back with a bang.
She said: "Now the movie opening here (in the UK) and then in the United States on Friday (18.12.15), I'm just about to have that sigh of relief. It's an adrenaline high right now. When we landed on the plane after coming here we started reading the reviews - it's pretty exciting."
Kennedy was joined at the premiere - one of the biggest London has ever hosted - by all the cast of the film including Boyega, Ridley, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong'o.
Other stars in attendance included Noel Gallagher and his wife Sara MacDonald, who were accompanied by his daughter Anais and their son Donovan, Benedict Cumberbatch and his spouse Sophie Hunter, Brooklyn Beckham, James Blunt and Stephen Fry.

Harrison Ford admires fans’ ’emotional interest’ in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Harrison Ford admires the never-ending enthusiasm of 'Stars Wars' fans.
The 73-year-old actor - who has reprised the role of Han Solo for the much-anticipated new movie, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' - has revealed he feels "proud" of the J.J. Abrams-directed film and feels touched by the support of fans.
Speaking at the European premiere of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' in London's Leicester Square last night (16.12.15), he told the BBC: "I'm glad people are interested. It becomes a part of people's lives and I really appreciate that they have such an intense, emotional interest in these films. It means a lot to me."
He said too, that the new movie is a "worthy" effort in comparison to the other films in the franchise.
In a message directed at fans, Harrison said: "I hope they enjoy the movie. It's a worthy effort. I'm very proud of it."
Elsewhere at the premiere, 'Star Wars' creator George Lucas spoke about passing on directing responsibilities to J.J. Abrams for the latest installment in the money-spinning series.
He joked: "I felt that I had to pass it on before I passed on."
The duo were joined at the star-studded event by the likes of Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong'o, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, as well as robots BB-8, C-3PO and R2D2.

Rooney Mara’s elevated status

Rooney Mara thinks she gets offered "better parts" because she's been nominated for a Golden Globe.
The 30-year-old star is hoping to secure the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for her role opposite Cate Blanchett in 'Carol' and has joked that her award nominations help her secure meatier roles.
She said: "Getting nominated means something. You will get better parts, and I really do want people to see the film.
"But I don't feel like it's something I'm desperate for. I would forgo it all to keep my integrity."
The 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' actress also opened up about "censoring" herself, admitting she can't really be one hundred per cent honest in interviews because she has to be "grateful, gracious and poised".
She told ELLE magazine: "People don't really want me to be honest. People want me, people want girls, to be grateful, gracious, poised. Not real. I watch interviews from the 1970s, of Patti Smith or John Cassavetes, and everyone's smoking, drinking, totally misbehaving, but they're being completely authentic, and I'm so jealous because that would never happen today.
"There's always a pre-interview, so you know what jokes you have to hit, and there's nothing genuine about it. And I hate that. I hate being a phoney. I hate having to censor myself."

Tom Hardy ‘bummed’ to lose Suicide Squad role

Tom Hardy was "bummed" to lose his 'Suicide Squad' role.
The 38-year-old actor was forced to pull out of the highly-anticipated film after filming ran over on 'The Revenant' but claims his anger helped shape his role as John Fitzgerald in the period movie.
He said: "It punched right into that, yeah. That got derailed for me. Was I bummed? Of course I was. I hate f***ing losing work.
"I kept bemoaning that they were losing me significant money on a daily basis. Actually, it was good for my character."
And Tom also revealed he overcame his fear of horses whilst filming for 'The Revenant' but still wouldn't refer to himself as a fully fledged horse rider.
He told Variety: "I don't like horses. They scare me. There's not a call for it in London - not since the 1800s. We are used to getting on the bus or the tube. I prefer dogs; they are a bit more manageable.
"I think horses are beautiful, but I didn't know any growing up. It's quite alien. They are so big and muscular. If they sat on me or kicked me, that would be it - wouldn't it? You always hear about people walking around the back of a horse and getting kicked. I always think if anyone is going to get kicked by a horse walking around the back of it, it's most likely going to be me."

Daisy Ridley ‘warned’ about Star Wars fame by Harrison Ford

Daisy Ridley was given a "warning" about fame by Harrison Ford.
The 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' beauty has revealed her co-star has been offering her some advice ahead of the release of the highly-anticipated science fiction film, but Daisy insists nothing has changed for her just yet.
She said: "It wasn't really advice. It was more of a warning. He said that the anonymity thing is difficult, because as creative people you look to other people for inspiration and suddenly people are looking at you.
"It's like, chilled [at the moment]. A guy came up to me last week and it was so sweet. He was the first person to recognise me out and about. He was just really nice and it felt like a nice thing. I just really want to keep doing cool films. That's really it."
The 23-year-old star also opened up about the secrecy of the production, admitting it was difficult not being able to share any details with her family.
She told BBC's Newsbeat:"You wouldn't come back from your day here and be like, 'This happened, this happened, this happened, this happened.' It just becomes your work day. Obviously with trailers and stuff, I'm like, 'Hehehe,' because I like to see how they react.
"My mum doesn't really know what goes on in the world anyway, and neither does my sister. My other sister has more of a grasp on it. But everyone's been keeping it a secret and it's exciting for that reason. People are more excited because they don't know what's happening. So it feels like a good thing. So many incredible people have been involved in this and it's time to release this thing."

Quentin Tarantino’s final film won’t be a horror

Quentin Tarantino has insisted his last film won't be a horror movie.
The 52-year-old director - who previously revealed he will retire in just eight years' time - has remained tight-lipped on what two final movies he'll direct, but has confirmed he will steer clear of terrifying audiences.
He shared: "I did do my little deconstruction on the slasher movie with 'Death Proof' but I don't think I have the right kind of temperament to do something like, say, 'The Exorcist' that is all about one tone that is dread that carries through. I like breaking up [tones] a little bit.
"If I were really going to do a horror film it would something like ... but I honestly don't think I have the right temperament. I like going up and down and up and down and I think that would take away from the horror."
However, Quentin did reveal he wants to create a series adaptation of the novel 'Forty Lashes Less One'.
He explained to The Playlist: "This piece which I think really demands that I make it ... is a Elmore Leonard book called 'Forty Lashes Less One'. I actually think if you're going to call yourself a Western director today you need to do at least three (films).
"And I would really like to do (the Leonard book) as a mini-series, like an hour an episode, four or five hours, I'd write and direct it all."
Later, he added: "It's right along the lines of 'Django Unchained' and 'Hateful Eight' as it deals with race and it all takes place in a territorial prison and it's a really good book and I've always wanted to tell that story, so we'll see. I'm hoping I'll do that eventually."

Adam Driver ranks Star Wars movies

Adam Driver has ranked the previously released 'Star Wars' films from best to worst.
The 'Girls' actor - who stars as villain Kylo Ren in the latest instalment of the science fiction franchise - has placed 1980's 'The Empire Strikes Back' at the top of the list, with 2005's 'Revenge of the Sith' sitting in 6th place as his least favourite.
Coming close to the top was 1983's 'Return of the Jedi' followed by 1997's 'Episode IV: A New Hope' with some of the more recent films, 2002's 'Attack of the Clones' and 1999's 'The Phantom Menace' placing fourth and fifth respectively.
After giving his answers hesitantly, he admitted: "You're really putting me on the spot. There's certain things about 'A New Hope' that are pretty great. Even when the movies first started, I kept going through Luke's theme when he comes out and the two sons are sitting ... There's so many things in those movies that I couldn't stop humming over when we were working."
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old actor also recalled his best and worst days on set, admitting he was regularly "blown away" by the sheer greatness of the movie's scale.
He told Collider.com: "There was no bad day. Walking in and seeing the original cast, walking in and seeing Chewie. There was lots of opening doors to sets and rooms and being just blown away."
