Tom Hardy was named British/Irish Actor of the year at the London Critics' Circle (LCC) Film Awards tonight (17.01.16). The 38-year-old actor was honoured at the ceremony thanks to his work in 2015, which included roles in 'Mad Max: Fury Road', 'Legen...

Alicia Vikander helped by dad

Alicia Vikander's father helps her research her movie roles.
The 'Danish Girl' actress is able to gain "great insight" into her characters by discussing her scripts with her dad, who is a psychologist.
She said: "I often send him my scrips and discuss my characters with him because he has such a great insight into the psychological process and human nature in general."
And her father's help was particularly useful when it came to researching her role as Gerda Wegender, the wife of transgender pioneer Lili Elbe (Eddie Redmayne) in 'The Danish Girl'.
She added: "My father has worked with transgender people himself and of course, that helped me to understand."
The 27-year-old actress also credits her father - who split from Alicia's mother when she was a child - for persuading her to appear in the 2012 Oscar-nominated Danish movie 'A Royal Affair'.
She told LOOK magazine: "[My parents] are both very important in my life and I've always had a close relationship with my father.
"In fact he was the one who convinced me to appear in 'A Royal Affair'.
"I had to study Danish for eight weeks but I saw it as a great challenge and I'm glad that I did it."

Paul Anderson relied on co-stars

Paul Anderson says 'The Revenant' cast relied on "each other" on set.
The survival and revenge story, which is set in the American wilderness in 1823, saw the actors film outdoors in cold and wet climates for many months, and the cast - including Paul, Leonardo DiCpario,Tom Hardy, Domnhall Gleeson and Will Poulter - were deprived of home comforts and a warm studio.
Speaking from the red carpet of the European premiere in London's Leicester Square, Paul told BANG Showbiz the all-male cast became "a strong bunch of friends" through the sheer lack of modern amenities.
He said: "There was like eight of us guys, we became a good strong bunch of friends you know... Every part of it was a challenge to be honest. It really was because we weren't shooting in a studio. We didn't have all those things around us that studios have, like clean toilets, or warm lovely warm rooms that you can sit in and keep yourself dry. We never had any of that. It was stripped bare, I mean all we had was each other."
Paul and his co-stars spent nine months in gruelling conditions and in below minus 30 temperatures, but he still hasn't seen the finished movie.
Asked if it was worth the hardship, he said: "I haven't seen the film, this is the first time I've had a chance to see it tonight. I've been very busy, so I haven't managed to see it, but I'm sure it was worth it."

Domhnall Gleeson enjoys awards night

Domhnall Gleeson views awards ceremonies as a "great night out".
The 32-year-old actor's latest movie 'The Revenant' is nominated for Best Picture at the upcoming Academy Awards but he never thinks about actually winning anything.
He said: "Very early on in y career, when I was 22, I was in a play that got nominated for a Tony award. There was this huge amount of excitement and I remember thinking, 'This will be a great night out'.
"I didn't win, but I had an amazing time, so that's the way I've tried to approach awards ever since."
Domhnall is also known for playing Bill Weasley in the 'Harry Potter' movies and loved being a part of the franchise.
He told Britain's Marie Claire magazine: "[The scripts were] brilliant. You start reading and it's just pleasure and excitement, there's possibility and potential on every page.
"There are scripts that feel like work and pushing through to the last page is a problem... So when a script like 'The Revenant' comes along, you know about it."

Revenant cast sent to bootcamp

'The Revenant' cast went to "bootcamp" to prepare them for freezing temperatures on set.
The adventure survival film took nine months to make and the cast even visited Russia to get in the snow, but Domnhall Gleeson - who stars as Captain Andrew Henry alongside Leonardo DiCaprio's Hugh Glass and Tom Hardy's John Fitzgerald - admits nothing could really "prepare" them for the extreme conditions they faced.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz on the red carpet of the film's European premiere in London's Leicester Square, he said: "We did a bootcamp and we thought that would prepare us but actually the weather wasn't so bad in the bootcamp. So it really did nothing you know.
"Just making sure you put on your thermals in the morning was the best preparation you could do. And apart from that it was: keep your feet moving and keep as dry as you can."
On some days the cast and crew worked in below 30 temperatures for 12 hours a day and by the end of it, were fit for nothing but bed.
Asked whether the all-male cast would hang out after filming, the Irish actor said: "No, the boring truth is that we rested. It was so extreme; the conditions, that your body just needed rest.
"So everybody would say a sad, quiet good night and shuffle off to their rooms. It was boring, but that was the truth of it."

Kate Winslet and Idris Elba set for spy thriller All the Old Knives

Kate Winslet and Idris Elba are set to star in a new spy thriller - but only if they both sign up to the project. The star pair are in talks to appear alongside one another in a big screen adaptation of Olen Steinhauer's spy novel 'All the Old Knives'...

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu: The Revenant explores a culture clash

Alejandro González Iñárritu says his movie 'The Revenant' is about a "clash of two cultures".
The 52-year-old Mexican director wanted to tell a story of the suffering that America endured when Europeans colonised the land in the 16th century and the conflict that ensued with the indigenous people.
'The Revenant' is set in 1823 in Montana and South Dakota, and focuses on the battle for survival of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass - played by Leonardo DiCaprio - and in the movie he is attacked by a Native American tribe and later helped by a tribesman.
Speaking on the red carpet of the film's European premiere in London's Leicester Square on Thursday night (14.01.16), Alejandro was asked why he made the film, to which he offered the answer: "It was such a complicated time and many of those themes in a way still are reflected in our society so it is such a fascinating story. There was a lot of misunderstandings, it was a clash of two cultures of people who armed themselves in inhospitable environments. And how the Native Americans were impacted by the arrival of western society and how nature suffered, the animals. And how everybody was surviving."
The cast endured extreme conditions for many months filming on location in sub-zero temperatures both in Russia and in the US.
And Alejandro felt it was important to put DiCaprio and his co-stars such as Tom Hardy through the tough experience because 'The Revenant' is a story about "endurance".
He explained: "I think the question is how and why these guys survive and it's a story about endurance and what makes human beings keep going in such very tough circumstances."

Michael B. Jordan up for Fantastic Four sequel

Michael B. Jordan wants to make a 'Fantastic Four' sequel.
The 28-year-old actor played Johnny Storm - aka The Human Torch - in the much-derided comic book movie but despite the criticism the film attracted, Jordan would be prepared to step into his superhero suit again.
He told IGN: "I love the character. I'm a big comic book fan, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to do it in the first place. We'll see what happens. Johnny Storm is an incredible character. Why not?"
Jordan was surprised by the negative reaction to 'Fantastic Four' but he insists the cast and crew couldn't have worked any harder on the movie.
The actor - who is currently earning rave reviews for his performance as boxer 'Donnie' in 'Creed', in which he stars opposite Sylvester Stallone - said: "I think it was a big education for me to realise that things aren't in your control, and you can do everything you're supposed to do. You can give 110 per cent every day, and the movie still not work out. But that may or may not be on you and you've got to be OK with that."

Tom Hardy dedicates Oscar nomination to The Revenant team

Tom Hardy has dedicated his Oscar nomination to the crew that made 'The Revenant'.
The 41-year-old actor is up for the Best Supporting Actor prize at the Academy Awards, while the movie leads the way with nominations earning 12.
Hardy is thrilled to be recognised for his own performance but says his nomination is down to the "team" behind the project, including director Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
The cast of the movie - which is a semi-biographical story of survival and revenge in the American wilderness in 1823 - have been vocal about the harsh filming conditions which included several months working in sub-zero temperatures.
Speaking at the European premiere of 'The Revenant' in London on Thursday night (13.01.16), Hardy - who plays adventurer John Fitzgerald who betrays Leonardo DiCaprio's frontiersman Hugh Glass - said: "The nomination is for everybody that was in the cold, everyone who was in the wet. The film has been picked for them ultimately."
Asked what first attracted him to the project, the 38-year-old star referred to Sean Penn pulling out of the film and joked: "It was a number of things, Leo called me, because Sean Penn wasn't available. The script, the director."
Hardy was delighted to have a strong "team" to work with in DiCaprio and Iñárritu and said the director had a "smorgasbord" of ideas on set.
He added: "To be part of his team, I would facilitate whatever it is that he needs and it's a pleasure to do that for somebody who has got a smorgasbord of options that they've already come up with, that they're feeding you and you them.
"It's wonderful to watch him (Leonardo) create and orchestrate himself on screen and also that carries through the entire ensemble. It's just lovely to be a team with somebody like that."
Hardy and DiCaprio were joined on the red carpet at the premiere by his co-stars, including Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Paul Alexander.
Hardy also played the lead role in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' which has received 10 nominations at the Academy Awards.
