Ryan Gosling transformed himself with fake tan for his role in 'The Big Short.'
The actor reunited with his 'Crazy Stupid Love' co-star Steve Carell for the upcoming biopic about the 2008 Wall Street financial crash in the Adam McKay directed movie, which is based on Michael Lewis' tell-all book.
The pair play slick city bankers Jared Vennett and Mark Baum and the plot follows the pair as they predict the looming crisis and they both admit their costumes of flash suits and bright fake tan helped them get into character.
Ryan, 35, shared: "We tried to have a different colour tan every scene. A different shade, like one of those colour charts where you just go for every version. It was the early 2000s, so I don't think the fake tan had been perfected yet. The spray tan wasn't as nuanced as it is now."
Steve, 53, added: "Adam asked me to put on some weight, so I put on 20-25lbs. I thought, 'Oh, this is my chance to just go crazy!' They dyed my eyebrows, too, they bleached them out I was not looking my best ... But it felt right for the character."
'The Big Short' also stars Christian Bale and Brad Pitt - who was as executive producer of the producer - and Ryan was impressed with his composure on set.
In an interview with Total Film magazine, Ryan said: "As a producer, he's a very graceful guy. He would be on set but never imposing, but present, and allowing everyone to do their work, but there if you needed him. I thought he handled it well."

Leslie Mann has replaced Jennifer Aniston in 'The Comedian.'
The 43-year-old actress has stepped in for the former 'Friends' star who has had to quit the movie due to scheduling reasons.
An insider told The Wrap: "They couldn't quite make the dates work and her (Jennifer's) schedule didn't allow her to commit to filming."
Leslie will appear opposite Robert De Niro, who plays a toxic comic who enjoys dishing out offensive insults but is also trying re-balance the priorities in his life.
Her character meets and befriends De Niro's at a wedding and the pair develop a close relationship.
Taylor Hackford is at the helm of the project, which will start shooting early this year in New York, while Art Linson wrote the script with comic Jeffrey Ross.
'The Comedian' producer Courtney Solomon has praised the talents of 'The Other Woman' star Leslie - who is married to 'Trainwreck' director Judd Apatow - and is confident she will be fantastic in the role.
Courtney said: "Leslie Mann's impeccable timing and ability to inject drama into comedy make her the right choice for the film."
Leslie is also set to star in the upcoming rom-com 'How to Be Single' alongside Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson, while Jennifer will be seen in 'The Yellow Birds' with Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich and Jack Huston.

Quentin Tarantino has confirmed all his movies are connected.
The legendary filmmaker has revealed his whole back catalogue of films - which include 'Pulp Fiction', 'Kill Bill' and his latest release 'The Hateful Eight' - all exist in the same universe.
He said: "There is actually two separate universes. There is the realer than real universe, alright, and all the characters inhabit that one. But then there's this movie universe. So 'From Dusk Till Dawn', 'Kill Bill', they all take place in this special movie universe. So when all the characters of 'Reservoir Dogs' or 'Pulp Fiction', when they go to the movies, 'Kill Bill' is what they go to see. 'From Dusk Till Dawn' is what they see.
"I don't want to say it point blank 'boom!', but if you're a fan of my work and are familiar with it you could be a bit of a detective."
However, the 52-year-old director didn't want to divulge too much information about specific links to keep up the mystery surrounding his movies.
He added: "I will say that there is one character amongst the eight that is related to one of my other characters in one of my other films.I can't explain the relation because that would tip my hat a little bit too much.
"The only other clue I can give ... is that the actor was originally cast as that character in the other film but they weren't able to do it due to a scheduling conflict."

Ryan Reynolds loved portraying Deadpool's dark "humour" in the upcoming superhero film.
The 39-year-old actor plays Wade Wilson and his alter ego in the movie which tells the story of his transformation into the titular hero, following the use of an experimental cancer treatment on him when he signs up for the Weapon X programme.
Dedapool is known from the Marvel comics to be adept at dishing out sarcastic and stinging insults and Ryan enjoyed bringing out that part of his personality - used as a coping mechanism due to his unstable mind and injuries caused by the experiment that gave him his super powers.
He said: "I've always loved his caustic wit. I love the idea of humour as a terrible coping mechanism for other things."
The plot of 'Deadpool' also follows the love story between Wade and Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin) who is a prostitute when they first meet and becomes Copycat, while Ed Skrein plays Ajax - who is another product of the failed Weapon X super-soldier programme and the villain who is sent to capture Deadpool.
And Reynolds was impressed that Skrein was able to bring some humanity to Ajax.
Ryan told Total Film magazine: "The hardest thing about playing a villain is trying to play a villain. A villain is really just someone with an opposing conviction, not necessarily a guy who's brought to this Earth to do evil. He (Skrein) really brought some humanity to Ajax, and really created a character that you just want Deadpool to kill so badly."
The Tim Miller-directed movie is intended to be the eighth instalment in the 'X-Men' film series and is set for release in February.

Blake Harrison was worried about playing "similar" characters in 'The Inbetweeners' and 'Dad's Army'.
The 30-year-old actor's most famous role is dim-witted teenager Neil Sutherland in the popular TV series and two 'Inbetweeners' films and will be seen as hapless Private Frank Pike in the film adaptation of the BBC World War II sitcom about the British Home Guard.
Harrison readily admits he had "reservations" about accepting the part - which was played by Ian Lavender in the TV series which ran from 1968 to 1977 - because Captain Pike has many similar character traits to Neil, and is constantly referred to as "stupid boy" by Walmington-on-Sea platoon leader Captain Mainwaring.
Blake shared: "I had slight reservations about playing a character that's similar to Neil, but Pike is a little softer. He's a big movie buff who wants to be living in Casablanca or Seahawk, but the reality doesn't quite live to his expectations."
Sarah Lancashire plays Blake's mother Mrs. Pike, while Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as Rose Winters, Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson, Michael Gambon as Private Godfrey and Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring.
Despite his doubts about appearing in 'Dad's Army' Blake accepted the part in the Oliver Parker-directed film - which is set in England in 1944 - and was determined to forge a character that wasn't identical to Lavender's.
He told Empire magazine: "It was about creating my own Private Pike, not doing a carbon copy of the original."
'Dad's Army' will hit cinemas on February 5.

Leonardo DiCaprio would "love" to portray a Russian political figure such as President Vladimir Putin, Lenin or Grigori Rasputin.
The Hollywood star is fascinated with some of the country's most recognised political characters and would be "very" interested in depicting the 63-year-old politician Putin or former communist leader Lenin.
DiCaprio is also particularly intrigued by Rasputin, the peasant faith healer who acted as an advisor to Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra Feodorovna and whose involvement with the royal couple led to him being partly blamed for the fall of the Russian monarchy in the early 20th century.
Speaking to German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, the 41-year-old actor insisted Russia's history was full of rich stories to be told that could be "worthy" of English playwright Shakespeare's work.
He said: "Putin would be very, very, very interesting. I would like to play him. I think there should be more films about Russian history because it has many stories worthy of Shakespeare.
"That is fascinating for an actor. Lenin also would be an interesting role. I would like also to star as Rasputin."
'The Revenant' star has two Russian grandparents and met Putin in 2010 at a conference on the plight of the endangered Siberian tiger.
DiCaprio said of their meeting at the time: "My foundation has provided financial support for several projects for the protection of these big cats. Putin and I talked only about the protection of these magnificent animals, not politics."
Putin revealed he is a fan of DiCaprio and called him a "muzhik" which translates to "real man", because he flew through treacherous weather to attend the conference.
He commented: "A person with less stable nerves could have decided against coming, could have read it as a sign - that it was not worth going."
