Miranda Hart ‘banned from making a return to Call The Midwife’

Miranda Hart has reportedly been banned from making a return to ‘Call The Midwife’ by BBC bosses.
The 45-year-old actress – who previously starred in the drama series as Camilla ‘Chummy’ Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne – has been blocked from making a return after a last-minute withdrawal in 2017 forced bosses of the show to redraft scripts that had reintroduced her character.
An insider explained to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "The ‘Call the Midwife’ team were really looking forward to having her back so felt equally disappointed by the U-turn.
"They felt she’d messed them about and it caused a real headache for the creators of a huge show which is incredibly challenging to make."
Miranda withdrew from the show last year because she was suffering from a mystery illness.
But BBC bosses have now decided to write her character out of the programme completely.
The source said: "They did everything they could to leave the door open in the hope that Miranda’s character might return. Now they would rather have certainty."
By contrast, actor Ben Caplan – who starred as Peter Noakes in the drama series – previously claimed Miranda’s on-screen character would eventually return to the show.
Speaking in 2017, he shared: "The door is very much open for both myself and Miranda and I’m sure we’ll make an appearance again.
"It’s been lovely to have been there since the beginning, an amazing roller coaster ride, and I’m honoured to have been part of the whole journey, but there comes a point six years down the line that, as an actor, it’s good to keep my foot in with the theatre world and exploring other roles."
