It was the first Super Bowl whose half-time performance drew greater audience figures than the game itself.
After rushing onto stage with fireworks going off behind him, the King of Pop burst into a medley of ‘Billie Jean’, ‘We Are the World Jam’ and ‘Black or White’ – before closing the show with a version of ‘Heal the World’.
The ‘Thriller’ hitmaker’s record ‘Dangerous’ shifted 90 places in the album chart after the spectacular performance.
