Meryl Streep teases Anna Wintour about her Devil Wears Prada role

Meryl Streep has told Vogue Editor Anna Wintour that playing her in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was her toughest role to date.
The Hollywood actress stars as Miranda Priestly, a powerful fashion editor who is widely believed to have been inspired by Wintour in the movie, and Meryl has joked about her role during a candid conversation with the iconic journalist.
During their chat about Meryl’s career in the movie business, Wintour casually asks: "Obviously you’ve played a lot of extraordinary women. What was the most challenging woman you ever played?"
To which Meryl quipped: "Oh, I should say [you]!"
And Wintor quickly responded: "No, no, we’re not going to go there, Meryl."
The 2006 comedy-drama also stars the likes of Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt.
Anne has previously admitted to being shocked by Meryl’s acting skills during their first read-through of the movie’s script.
Of her co-star’s steely on-screen persona, the Academy Award-winning actress explained: "When Meryl opened her mouth and basically whispered, everybody in the room drew a collective gasp. It was so unexpected and brilliant."
Meanwhile, Meryl previously admitted she feared ageing would damage her career in Hollywood.
Despite being regarded as one of the most talented performers in the business, Meryl – who turned 68 in June this year – worried her career wouldn’t stretch much beyond the age of 40.
She explained: "I remember as I was hovering around [age] 40, I thought each movie would be my last, really. And all the evidence of other 40-year-old women at that time – this is 27 years ago – would leave you to believe it was over."
And the Hollywood star has insisted her passion for acting remains as strong as ever.
She said: "On a certain level you don’t have any choice – you’re unhappy if you’re not doing it, so you’re compelled in a certain way. And if you’re lucky, you can keep working."
