Melissa McCarthy: Susan Sarandon’s gorgeous ankles

Melissa McCarthy says Susan Sarandon’s ankles were "too good looking" for her character in ‘Tammy’.

The ‘Bridesmaids’ actress has revealed that as the 67-year-old Academy Award winner plays her alcoholic grandmother in the comedy, they had to put a lot of effort into making her look older and less attractive than she naturally is.

She explained: "Listen, the amount of work that went into taking the glow off of her.

"We’ve got fake ankles on her, I mean whose ankles are gorgeous? We literally had to make prosthetic ankles and I was like, ‘Oh for God’s sake, your ankles are too good looking?’

"And then I looked at her ankles and I was like, ‘Oh my god you’ve got gorgeous ankles’.

The 43-year-old comedienne – who is married to the film’s director Ben Falcone – also joked that it was hard not to take offence when the production team claimed Sarandon was too attractive on camera.

Speaking on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ McCarthy added: "Anyway she wears this crazy wig and we put dumpy clothes on her and then every once in a while, this happened two times, when there was a lot of talking and looking around from Ben I was like, ‘Can we help? There seems to be a hold up?’ And they said, ‘Susan looks too good’.

"And I was like, ‘Oh, is it pretty lighting, do we both look too good?’ … ‘No, just Susan!’"

The movie follows McCarthy’s character Tammy, who, after losing her job, husband and car in one day, decides to escape from her small town existence, but with no form of transport she’s forced to take her party-animal grandmother Pearl (Sarandon) with her.
