Mel Giedroyc lands presenting gig on BBC quiz show

Mel Giedroyc has landed a new gig hosting new BBC Two quiz show ‘Letterbox’.
The former ‘Great British Bake Off’ co-host – who was last on the BBC on Gary Barlow’s ‘Let It Shine’ talent contest – is thrilled to have been accepted by creator David Young to present the new style factual entertainment programme and is hoping she will master the format of the word game.
In a funny statement, the 48-year-old beauty said: "I played a version of this game and was a) extremely competitive at it, b) annoyingly bad at it, c) strangely addicted to it, d) needed to do more of it, e) asked the big cheeses if I could present it, f) was delighted when they said yes, g) can’t wait to start recording the shows and meeting the contestants, h) hoping to get seriously skilled at playing it so that i) I’ll be able to SMASH IT if the board game comes out. Now how many letters have I used up? (see what I did there)."
David said ‘Letterbox’ is for all the family because you don’t need to be a brain box to play along.
He explained: "It’s a word game designed to appeal to a family audience because it doesn’t contain any general knowledge questions. On ‘Letterbox’ you don’t need to be an ‘Egghead’ to walk away a winner!"
The afternoon show is already on to a winning start, as the BBC’s daytime controller Dan McGolpin has ordered 15 episodes to be aired this year, Mirror Online reports.
Other than ‘Let It Shine’, Mel and her presenting partner Sue Perkins were set to appear on ITVs ‘The Nightly Show’, but they pulled out of presenting the programme because they were unable to make their schedules work.
At the time, they said: "We were approached to take part in the series however, due to our busy schedule we were unable to make the dates work. We do wish the team all the best with the remainder of the series."
