Mel B claims Netflix Spice Girls docuseries has been scrapped

Mel B has claimed a rumoured Spice Girls Netflix docuseries has hit the brakes.

The project with the streaming giant seemingly being scrapped comes after the girls ruled out a 30th anniversary tour.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain this week, the 51-year-old singer was asked by host Susanna Reid whether a Netflix project about the iconic girl group was still happening.

Mel didn’t sugar‑coat it, replying: “Well, I don’t think anything’s happening, I think something was, but I don’t think it’s actually going to be happening now after all, which is a shame.”

Pressed on why the project had suddenly stalled, Mel played coy, telling Susanna: “I’ll tell you in the dressing room!”

Scary Spice also once again poured a little doubt on hopes for a full Spice Girls reunion tour to mark the group’s 30th anniversary. While she insisted she’s always ready to get back on stage with her bandmates, she admitted the situation is far from straightforward.

Mel said: “I think you know if it’s going to happen, it will happen, and I’m always for a Spice Girls reunion, don’t get me wrong.”

Susanna then asked whether some members were more hesitant than others, and, Mel’s answer suggested that might be the case – but she wasn’t naming names.

She said: “Well, everybody has their own lives, you know what I mean, without saying too much. I’m hoping, I’m always hopeful, you know me.”

The Viva Forever singer recently discussed the docuseries and shockingly claimed “not everybody wants to be honest”.

She told HELLO! magazine: “I think we’ve all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point. But it has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest.”

Spice Girls hosted a reunion tour in 2019, sans Victoria Beckham.

There has been plenty of speculation about how the group will commemorate three decades since the release of their debut single Wannabe this year, but Mel B dismissed hopes of performing on stage with her bandmates Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Melanie C and Victoria.

She told the publication: “I can tell you that it’s not happening. If it does, it’ll be a shock to me, let’s put it that way. When I look at that (tour) and at the feeling it gave me, I was in my element, but there comes a time… I’m 50. You can’t be nagging everyone to go on tour if they don’t want to. I laid that to rest when I turned 50.”

Watch Good Morning Britain weekdays from 6am on ITV.
