Meek Mill doesn’t feel ‘free’

Meek Mill still doesn’t feel "free", despite being released from prison.
The 30-year-old rapper – who was sentenced to two to four years in prison five months ago after he violated the terms of his parole stemming from a drug and weapons conviction in 2008 – was granted bail earlier this week, but admits he isn’t free from the case, as he still has the conviction hanging over him.
When asked if he felt free, the ‘Litty’ rapper said: "I ain’t feel free since I caught this case at age of 19 – I’m 30 now."
And Meek insists he has a lot of "responsibility" on his shoulders now, as other people who are facing similar battles with the criminal justice people are relying on him to inspire change.
Speaking to Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News, he said: "I got a lot of responsibility. [The people counting on me are] going through the same thing I’m going through."
Meek was granted bail on Tuesday (24.04.18) by the Supreme Court, after they overruled an original decision made by Judge Genece Brinkley, who had denied his request for bail.
On Tuesday, a statement from Meek read: "I’d like to thank God, my family, my friends, my attorneys, my team at Roc Nation including JAY-Z, Desiree Perez, my good friend Michael Rubin, my fans, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time.
"While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive. To the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office, I’m grateful for your commitment to justice – not only for my case, but for others that have been wrongfully jailed due to police misconduct."
The ‘All Eyes on You’ rapper also vowed to continue making music, and fighting to have his conviction overturned.
The statement continued: "Although I’m blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of color across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues. In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career."
