Mary Berry trademarks her name to protect herself from scammers

Mary Berry has trademarked her name in a bid to protect herself from scammers.

The 85-year-old TV star – who is best known for appearing on ‘The Great British Bake Off’ – has launched legal action after scammers used her name to try to sell cannabis oil.

A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "Mary was devastated after her name and quotes were used to flog CBD Oil (Cannabidiol) so trademarking her name felt like the best thing to do to put off scammers."

In legal paperwork, Mary revealed her intention to launch a range of new products, including things like jams and spice mixes.

The insider explained: "As part of the trademark, Mary has taken in a huge range of food stuffs which will be covered by this.

"Some are products already on shelves, but she’ll be looking to branch out – with the possibility of a new preserves range."

Earlier this year, Mary admitted to being "appalled" that her name and image were being used to sell cannabis oil products.

The TV star’s image was used in a series of adverts that appeared on Facebook, with the ads claiming that cannabis oil products have helped Mary to remain in good health.

In response, a statement on her website said: "Mary has been upset to learn companies are still using her image to advertise products like skin cream without permission.

"Please be aware these are not genuine endorsements and Mary is not affiliated with the sellers. We’d advise people not to click on the links or buy these products."
