Mary Berry only planned to stay on The Great British Bake Off ‘for another year’

Mary Berry reportedly told ‘Great British Bake Off’ bosses she only planned to stay on the show for "another year or so" – regardless of which channel broadcasts the programme.
The 81-year-old TV star recently announced her intention to stay with the BBC rather than following the show to its new home of Channel 4, but Mary apparently told executives at Love Productions, who own the show, that she would not be making any long-term commitments before they sold it to Channel 4.
A source told the Sunday People newspaper: "Mary loves the show, but she had made it clear she wouldn’t be able to give any long-term commitments.
"Two years from now, she does not expect to be working at the rate she is currently – and the production team were aware of this."
Despite Mary recently reaffirming her commitment to the BBC, the ‘Bake Off’ star is only interested in short-term projects with the broadcaster.
Meanwhile, Paul Hollywood is the only member of the original ‘Bake Off’ line up who is following the show to Channel 4.
However, the 50-year-old presenter is reportedly upset by accusations of greed over his decision.
A source said: "I know Paul’s been affected by the way some people have criticised him since he said he would stay loyal to the show.
"Some of the criticism has been very personal – when all he’s trying to do is stay in the job he loves. He’s a working guy trying to do what he does best. Is it disloyal to want to carry on with the job you love?
"Paul didn’t ‘follow the dough’ – he followed his passion. Can you blame him if he’s finally also going to get paid a decent reward for something that he’s one of the best at in the world?"
